@CMO1061 my friend couldn't have agreed more. Me too at shows I never experienced that from fans, i guess everyone rarely experiences these things. But online on social media is the greatest platform for bullying and hate. I dont think it has to do with how extreme the sub genre is.

@mjk2323 hey hi. Of course there are @holes everywhere. I said many times in the video that metalheads are like everyone else in the world have all kinds of people. Its just a discussion. In the middle east there is this huge amount of taboos about many issues, but metal doesnt happen to come from here. Im not very updated about the bands in the middle east, but from my generation there is Nervecell, Bilocate and my band The Hourglass. Side note some of the comments here are assuming i am muslim (because they would like to have a certain prejudice and profiling for other people) and got offended by the video and "fix your own house before judging others". You had also gave me the arabic/islamic salute which is a nice gesture. But i wasnt born as a Muslim, because you know Jesus was a middle eastern man, not a European, who was born and lived and died in the middle east. (Im agnostic now) Cheers

Also even though its a small thing I think its weird to ask for a guitar pick that is still somebody else's property, if they choose to flick it your way that's one thing but asking is weird and I would never ask for something like that. It is kind of a weird thing to do after a show and could be interpreted as showing entitlement even if you don't mean it that way.

@ChristianGeer thanks for the lengthy comment. I dont think i agree with you on many points. In the video at the end i was asking questions, and i said in several points that metalheads like everyone else in the world have all kinds of people. So i dont think the problem is in thrash or death ...or in any kind of general view. Metal has become a global phenomenon but it originated in certain parts of the world, and i think humans have a long way still to understand each other. And another thing is that musically metal is very masculine, and in a way you feel obligated to always show signs of power, which creates other kinds of issues. I dont see ANY problem in a fan waiting for the bus for an hour to ask for a guitar pick. Its not like they have 5 picks there is tons of them to give away. Besides, all was smooth until i said where i am from. Anyway shit like this always happens everywhere. We are just having a discussion here. But some people choose to get offended

@@Rudimessiah i didnt say the problem is in one place but if you listen to bands like "Meat Sh**s" you'll see exactly the kind of dumb crap I'm talking about. Edgelord grindcore kids are definitely predisposed to bigoted garbage. I think it comes with the territory when your fans appreciate the music for being offensive. As much as I love slam and grindcore there is BS you have to deal with at those shows that just isn't present at Opeth or Death to All, or Between the Buried and Me, or Gojira. Mostly due to the type of people attending. It doesn't make the scene bad we just need to do a better job shutting that garbage down at shows. The same way you would if someone is being a jerk in the pit ot crowd killing. A lot of the shows I go to you would not be accepted if you start spouting bigoted crap. Not just the bands but the crowd isnt ok with it. These shows are in a pretty progressive area though so that might be part of it. Our grindcore shows in the small conservative town near me? Yeah not so much there is some truly racist garbage I dont want to participate in happenning there. In the US its a bit different as we had a whole "nazi punk" movement where there was a lot of crossover between thrash and hardcore punk being played by bigoted losers. I think some of that carries into the modern metal scene here. Echoes of the past.

Its funny that the people who gets angry about discussing bigotry are the only ones who wants to shut you up and cant even handle a discussion about the subject. its only a discussion of two opinions, i didnt draw any conclusions, you surely haven't listened to what i said. All you have to say "go preach your own people", a video on youtube is for everyone everywhere, not specifically for Americans, i guess you know that.

If you would like a counter-argument, first of all, watch fantano's video. To be honest, I assumed your video was made as a reaction to his. Second, yes. What Beato is offering is an extreme form of art conservatism. The premise that somehow younger generations are worse than you, and that modern music is "getting worse" is the laziest most superficial thing an older person can say. It has been said every generation by people for as long as human history has been recorded. And no, modern music is not worse, modern listening is not worse, they are different. And neither you, nor Beato seem to be interested in learning in what way. You just put a huge negative sign in front of it. As for Beato, any music expert that completely ignores electronic music should not be taken seriously. He is an expert in the 70s and 80s rock music, at best. I don't care for his opinion about modern anything. But he has millions of subscribers, so my lone comment in the sea of your and his supporters is at least some resistance to your conservative views.

Before I skimmed your video, right now I watched all of it. Unfortunately, there is very little we agree on. If you want to have a nuanced conversation, I am totally open to it. My name is Louigi Verona, I have been composing music for over 25 years now. I am mostly known in the genre of electronic ambient music. You can find my stuff on Bandcamp. On my channel there is a video called "Boring Music and How to Make It Interesting" where I talk about the foundations of modern electronic music and why it's not about melodies, a point that Rick completely misses. He is an intelligent person. He is missing the point because he is willfully ignorant and arrogant. And because he has a conservative mindset. (and, btw, my video is not a video of some deranged person with obscure views, they are only obscure in non-electronic music circles.) In your video you sort of superficially say that yes, it doesn't mean that all the music is worse, then basically turn around and say that yes, it is worse. Fine, not all of it, most of it. It's not the nuance you think it is. You confuse ease of access to music and publishing and ease of making music. You bring up Metallica, but you say nothing about modern electronic music acts. I mean, by God, could you at least mention, I don't know, Aphex Twin or something? He's an old timer by now, but even that would be an improvement over the narrative! Because young producers with DAWs are not looking up to people who string together loops, they are looking up to amazing musicians who do amazing things (and the names of which, I suspect, you simply don't know). I am part of music making communities and have been a part of them since the late 90s. No one thinks that stringing together several loops is good music, and no one listens to that. Music tools became more accessible, but no one thinks that playing some automatic arpeggio is fun and interesting. Instead, people develop absolutely dazzling genres out of a lot of these elements. And some of it is not even new! Berlin School, for example, is a genre of electronic music that originated in the 70s! Today there is a whole selection of musicians who write excellent music in this genre, continuing to innovate and create amazing records. Has Beato ever talked about them? No, of course not. You see, there are no guitars there and there are no melodies, so it must be bad. And even genres like house, which many traditional musicians scoff at, are incredibly difficult to make. I have been involved in producing rominimal (romanian minimal house). It took me many years to orient myself in the genre and get satisfactory results. Because good rominimal is very very hard. Yes, there is an overabundance of music. Thing is, there is an overabundance of good music, too. We have to admit as musicians that the globalization made it clear that there are more talented people than we it might have appeared in the 20th century. That many folks with access to good music making tools are actually capable of producing awesome things. And, of course, every year will see more mediocre music released than awesome. This has always been true and nothing has changed. If you want to have a nuanced discussion on this, as I said, I am totally prepared and well equipped to have it. Bring it on! I am ready to appear on your channel as well.

@@Rudimessiah I think we have to be careful not to confuse taste with quality. Musicians are better than ever. Music colleges for example now have entrance exams at a level which used to be the level of a bachelor's or even master's degree. The quality of all our recording gear has never been this good. Even with a low budget great musicians can record themselves. The internet has facilitated the exchange between musical cultures, influencing each other to integrate ideas from other genres and styles. We forget where music is. Music isn't just what you hear in the charts. There's more subcultures than ever, each creative in their own right. Plus, think of all the places you hear music: corporate audio branding, commercials, movies, games, theaters, entertainment parks... No Genre can be super creative and new because once you're too creative and different you're not in that genre anymore.

@mazetoeden9334 i dont think youve watched my vid before commenting, i discussed more of these issues. And we agree one many. No one said that new music is shitty, but the easy free tools resulted in huge lot of shitty stuff shadowing the good product. In the end, the main problem, in my opinion, is that musician are giving their creativity for free where corps are reaping all the gains. Thats what should be countered.

@@Rudimessiah regarding the financial aspect: More independent musicians than ever can live off of their music. This liberalization of all the tools to create, release and market music has given many small musicians the opportunity to find the right fans, which previously wasn't possible because of gatekeeping. We are giving away our music for free and it sucks. But back in the day of vinyl and cds our music wouldn't have even been produced in the first place.

@mazetoeden9334 in this you are wrong because the facts prove it. Anyone with a limited budget recorded " back in the day". Me included as a personal experience, when there is a will there is a way. Of course it wont sound like the black album. But it was doable when there was their pursuit. And that on its own filters most of shitty stuff out because you need to pay money. Secondly and most importantly, all the bands "back in the day" made their living through RECORDS SALE, tshirts and other shit were added value and more like advertising. Metallica are still here because of RECORD SALES, in the first place which made them unbeatable. We dont make money out of music doesnt "suck", but kills the very thing that makes music alive on the long run.
