The creamery processed 100 million eggs annually for the government. Despite wartime success, the creamery ceased dried egg pro...

The Gunfight That Brought Law to Clay County: April 25, 1872 (HCSCC Ihdago Manipi)
Просмотров 2269 месяцев назад
In 1871, Moorhead was a Wild West tent city that attracted gunmen, conmen, gamblers, and others who lived outside of the law. Because there were no policemen or elected officials to impose rule of law, the town was run by a gang of armed bullies. As US settlement expanded west, towns were established first. The justice system, local government, schools, churches, and polite society came later.

Nellie Griswold Francis & the Everywoman Suffrage Club: Minnesota's Black Women Suffragists
Comparing the (obviously satirical) photo of a bunch of men in drag usually associated with the phrase "lips that touch liquor shall never touch mine" with these faces who actually would have uttered it is very jarring. History has been so misrepresented. As an aside, being Swedish it is interesting to observe the Scandinavian-American contribution to the Temperence Movement considering how strong it also was over here--we very nearly had our own prohibition (lost by a couple percentage points) and to this day all sales of alcohol is controlled by the state.
Duk Payuel is the centre of the entire world. If one takes a regular world map and draws eight lines on it, covering the 8 directions, the main point of convergence is in Duk Payuel.
Very interesting, Mark thank you !
I played this song for my U.S. history class when discussing the temperance movement. I like to add amusing things to my classes.
Thanks for keeping this awesome video doc online and easy to find ! I was still in grade school in 1982 helping my father at the end of his life (heart failure).
Pass the booze.
Funny but my ex munches carpet, and it's called 'female empowerment' well. Hmmm
That violin music during the rough weather... That was a nice touch.
What an inspiring story! We are looking forward to seeing the ship in a few days
By an unfortunate but seldom noticed grammatical error ("pronoun always refers to last noun") "mine" actually refers to "my liquor", not to "my lips".
I’ve been there before, live 1block from it
This was built near where I grew up. I went and saw the ship as it was being built in the potato warehouse in Hawley, Minnesota.
The lips the touch liquor shall never touch mine--my liquor, that is.
I don't know why they put the ship in Moorhead, it was built in Hawley mn where I live 🤦♂️
That would seem fair. I'm going to guess it has something to do with population and potential patron traffic. Hawley has about 2000 people. The Fargo/Moorhead/West Fargo region has over 100 times that population with a much larger economy.
Well done, Deb! Thank you!
Very fun to hear some of the history of my hometown!
If I had lived in those days I wouldn't have even dared to touch them with a stick, let alone with my lips. Ugly ass ogres...
RIP mud creek. 🤣
Incredible story! Inspirational, in so many ways. Thanks for posting.
Everybody had a Scandinavian last name in good ol' Cromwell.
I also noticed that only such names occur.
Wish Granted
Phenomenal adventure!
Hilarious!
Lisa and HCSCC, thanks for posting this video! My wife is related to the Ostrems and I'm friends with many other relatives. I've heard the story of the copper kettle many times.
