Appreciate you coming back to reply to comments after all these years. I read all the comments and it looks like your jacket has held up really well. How do you clean your jacket? I use Nikwax Tech Wash on my dwr jackets. Do you use something similar? Anything come to mind about the upkeep of this jacket? I'm hoping to keep it a long time considering shakedry is no long manufactured.
please, start with the big three....the rest is just a list of details...
Got a moment for some inquires? The Fly Fishing. Which Tenkara rod and length? And the regular Fly rod, weight and length? Looking at the hammock by Superior Hammock, did the nesting of the 30 degree and 40 degrees cocoon meet your needs? About how low did the temp get to? The ONLY way to go! See the small lake by the hammock :) OVER rocks - always love doing that. BYW how long are the hammock straps to go around Sierra size trees? The straps look longer than my 15' ones.... The 4 fish look really good..... Were they Large fish ... or ... small pan? NICE trip! Thanks for the vid. :)
Thanks for tuning in! The rod is a 10 ft Tenkara rod called The Beartooth by Tenkara Rod Co. The other fly rod was an 8 ft I believe but I'm not sure of the weight. The Superior Hammock was amazing and more than met the temps we saw on that trip which dipped below freezing. The hammock straps were just 15 feet each. The fish that we actually cooked and ate were 12-14 inches long and the pan was a 12 inch skillet.
@@juicehikes5436 Thanks for the reply! Just the info needed / confirmed, since the gear box has several fly rods and straps. I was thinking a 2-3 weight would be fun stream fishing and 4 weight for small lakes. Took a look at the Superior Hammock. I have bridge and regular hammocks. The underquilts don't always keep the drafts out :( Been rockin your videos for long time! Great stuff.
Man, the fishing on the trip was on fire! Great stuff!!!
We were spoiled on this trip with good fishing!
Hello Juice. I enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing (I am pretty sure the fish you thought was a brookie was a German Brown:). Take Care and keep the videos comming!
Thanks for watching Mark! I guess RUclips has decided not to push my videos out much anymore! You’re right, that was a Brown Trout. We had been catching almost exclusively Brook Trout for the previous two days on Part 1 so I misspoke.
@@juicehikes5436 No worries Juice, just thought you may want to know. I have noticed that there are a lot of people I watch that have not had many videos pop up lately! I am glad I am subscribed to your channel so I won't miss the next one. Take Care.
Hey Juice what an amazing adventure thanks for sharing. I will be out there next summer hope to see you out on the trail.
Thanks for watching!
Jeez, some of the comments on this seemingly innocuous video are insane. Thanks for the loadout video! I purchased The Ranger and received it about a month and a half ago. I love the pack! It's performed quite well here in the Adirondacks. I have used Ospreys all of my backpacking life (14+ years) and I am so happy to have graduated to different style gear. I love the simplicity of the Ranger. Ospreys have way too much going on. I aspire to tackle the PCT one day- I do have a question: I own a Hammock Gear Burrow 30, which is truly comfort rated IMO. Do you think that would be sufficient for the PCT with an XTherm?
@@jellytin people are pretty fun sometimes! Glad to hear you are loving The Ranger. I’ve definitely enjoyed my time with it! Comfort ratings on quilts/sleeping bags are super subjective and it depends a lot on if you are a cold or warm sleeper. Personally I would go with a 20 degree comfort rated quilt as the temps on the mountains can drop without warning. If you tend to sleep on the warmer side you could definitely do the PCT with that quilt. Thanks for tuning in!
@@juicehikes5436 Thanks! Yeah I've really enjoyed my time with it too. Super comfortable. Can't wait for the Space Ranger for my winter forays. Thanks for answering. I'll probably go with 20 just to be safe then.
Great video! What hammock system are you using?
@@CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventures thanks for tuning in! This is a Superior Hammock by Superior Gear.

Hi juice I just stumbled across your video of the Rea Lakes Loop what an amazing trip I did that many years ago and I still remember it. I plan go going next year from Roads End Bubbs Creek trail and go to Yosemite Valley. Thanks for sharing the video and I Hope to see you go trial
Thanks for tuning in! That's a great section!
Hey Juice I hope you’re doing well. If you don’t mind I have a question for you. I am planning a backpacking trip next July or August ( depending on when I get the permit) I would like to start out of Roads End (Cedar Grove) take the Woods Creek Trail towards the suspension bridge at Woods Creek. And the go north on the J M T towards Happy Isles. If I go that way I am thinking 7 - 8 days until I get to V V R for my first resupply. I think it would be a little rough going that far with that much weight the first leg of the trip. So i rethinking and TRY !!!!! And get a permit out of Happy Isles and go on the J M T to the Woods Creek Trail & come out at Roads End. If I go that way I can get resupplies at Tuolumne Meadows then Red’s Meadows, then V V R. By then I should have my trail legs and adjusted to the elements then hit the Woods Creek Trail out. Am trying to figure if I go Woods Creek first it might be rough going. Ha ha any input is highly appreciated. Thanks Larry

I did this hike with my daughter and her boyfriend june 15-20 2023 east to west thru hike. We got nailed with bugs really bad! 🦟😱 I’m surprised at how much everything was grown up just alittle over a month from this video. This year june 15-21 2024 we did isle royal around 50 miles. seen two moose 🫎 lots of fox 🦊 one wolf 🐺 Got rained on two different days-nights ( pretty bad thunderstorm one night ) Bugs were just as bad as pictured rocks.. but add in black biting flys. Super beautiful island.. if i could sum it up in two words ~ Beautifully unforgiving. I think next hike is gonna be near the end of summer.. to avoid bugs 😆
Awesome!
New B here..... should i ditch my stuff sacks and cram my top n bottom quilts in the bottom of my bag?
That's what I do! Just stuff it all in a Nylofume bag.

Good luck! You don't need as much as you think you do.
Great video. Im doing the same route at the end of October…can’t wait! Thanks for sharing
does your quilt has 850FP or 950FP down type? do you a draft collar on it? when you say 20 degree you mean fahrenheit (or celsius)? thanks alot (( when will be available the 50L framed pack from Evolved supply co? is there a way to pay less customs fees if buying from Europe? thanks again)) 🤙
My quite uses 950 down with the draft collar. Yes, it's rated to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. We are working on the 50L pack but it won't be available until later this year. Unfortunately when it comes to customs fees we have zero say or control over what is charged and it varies from country to country. Cheers!
nice im looking forward to it. do you have experience with wolfs and foxes during your thruhikes, especially during the night? online i find people advising to eat and hang the food on a tree at least 100ft from the tent, also wanted to ask you how you deal with ticks wearing all the time running shorts except using a spray repellent. thanks. greetings from italy
@@OQULTO I have some experience with both wolves and foxes but no real issues. You just encounter them sometimes on trail or at night but they usually keep their distance. I treat all my clothes in Permethrin for tick prevention and when necessary I use Picardin lotion which keeps ticks, flies, and mosquitoes at bay. The lotion lasts around 12 hours too which is great!
@@juicehikes5436 thanks 🤙

"Liked" I just did this section too a few weeks ago. Kinda crowded, but lots of fun peeps.
Hey It's Tim! I bet the trail was way more crowded than when Darwin and I went in February. Thanks again for the ride sir!
Nice video besides that idiot Darwin.
Do you know Darwin personally?
@@juicehikes5436 What you think of as a response is reduced to “Unless you know someone personally, you ought not criticize them.” You’re committed to the position that you can’t criticize that other idiot, Donald Trump, since you don’t know him. Think before you type Juice.
@@juicehikes5436 What’s the logical necessity of knowing someone personally in order to render a criticism? I’m failing to see a rebuttal.
I make it a point not to criticize others just as a point of being a decent human being. Everyone's got their own stuff going on. Better to be kind and treat others as you would like to be treated. It's sad to see what people are willing to say behind the safety of their keyboard.
@@juicehikes5436And why should someone share your values?
Nice vid so far and thanks for the gear list 😎👍
Thanks @CaptainCamp! Appreciate you tuning in!
Watched your Goyko trek and was hoping for an everest view
Both were equally awesome!
Hello there, amazing vid! I go in October super happy! What month did you trek in? Thanks!
Thanks! We did Gokyo and EBC in September of 2023. Enjoy your trip!
Guess, you are not a "near" daily vlogger. You are not a frequent vlogger, I guess I will look forward to your summary videos. However, I'm really enjoying the "frequent" vloggers(Lil Chap, Hiker Dancer, Heard Hiker, Fought on foot...etc.). Those vid's on the PCT really "takes us there" on the trail. Especially, for Angelenos and West coasters. Our weather is your trail weather, and it's amazing when caught on video. Not hating on "after the fact" vids, but it's just not the same.
No, I'm not a daily vlogger. I'm also not thru-hiking the PCT this year. The gear list was just for a section of the PCT but could easily be used as a thru-hiking kit. I just released the trip video today ruclips.net/video/7J7BxPKlltM/видео.html.
You could not fit a normal sized bear canister into that backpack. I also doubt that food for a week would fit, even if it is empty. Through-hiking with a pack smaller than a daypack does not seem like a rational choice.
The Ranger is a 45L pack with plenty of room if your gear is dialed in. I had 5 days of food and full comfort items with room to spare. Lots of people carry smaller packs than this on thru hikes. It fits a BV450 on the inside and you can attach a larger bear can on the top. There are only a few places in the US that it’s necessary to carry a bear can so that’s not much of a concern. Pretty rational choice for a pack as far as I’m concerned.
@@juicehikes5436 it probably depends on your daily consumption and height, I am 6'2'' and my food takes up a lot more room. I have a Copper Spur 2 person tent, Western mountaineering sleeping bag and I can hardly fit everything into a 60L pack.
@@NVIK5 possibly but I’m 6’1 and consume 3000-4000 calories a day. Your tent and sleeping bag take up a lot more room than the Altaplex tent and Enlightened Equipment quilt I carried on this trip though. Also how you pack your largest volume items can have a lot of impact. Tons of people have completed thru hikes on all the major trails using this pack.
Is it mandatory to hire a guide to do the EBC Trek? I’m reading that you cannot hike the trail without a licensed guide. Apparently this started on 4/1/23. Any truth to this?
It’s not mandatory to hire a guide. It’s suggested and they want it to appear like you have to have one but in reality you can hike without a guide.
@@juicehikes5436 thanks for the response.
you bag contents are about 2K more than I can afford ps. IMO Darwin copied my EVLV WAYMARK pack thanks for sharing though 😊
Haha, Darwin designed the Waymark EVLV for Mark and then Mark never paid him a dime for it. You may want to know the facts before you use words like “copied.”
@@juicehikes5436 Sadly Mark wasn't making decent money from his company, Waymark (according to the internet), so he shut it down. Though that does take away any conflict over the design of the pack, I would think.
7:32 "Juice" can't risk running out of juice.
🤣
Thx for nice review my friend 👍🏻❤
Thanks for tuning in!
You mind telling me if you used a bear vault with that pack? And if so, which size and where did you put it on your pack?
I haven't used a bear can with the Ranger yet. It will fit a BV450 or you can use the Y-strap to attach a bear can to the top of the pack.
LOL, 2 days of battery life NOT good. My garmin gets weeks and that's with using the GPS function frequently each week for running and Crossfit. Why any hiker would use an apple watch is mind boggling.
I used Garmins for over a decade (both the Fenix and Forerunner) and just recently switched to the Apple Watch Ultra. They both have their drawbacks, battery life being one of them for the Apple Watch. As an everyday smart watch though the Apple Watch is just better. If I was hiking for 3-4 months straight and the main purpose was only to track activities I would probably opt for the Garmin with significantly better battery.
What’s the size of that pack?
About 40L
Would be curious if you have tried the XOSkin toe socks. Ive been impressed with them so far
Haven’t tried them. Maybe I’ll check them out! Thanks
You should carry out all of your waste instead of burying it in holes. Bad for the environment and wildlife.
So it can just be buried somewhere else?
Are the sizing for the sun hoodie still the same on the supply co website? I’m a little smaller than you. Normally size medium. But you suggest I get size small?
Hey Mike, we did change the sizing in late 2023 so the first version size medium is now the size small. I wear the size small of the new version and it works really well for me.
