Getting a 1991 KLR 250 back up and running after sitting for over 20 years. It is a on going project that is still in the works. Spring is in the air, lets take it out for a ride! Stay tuned, more to come from the Northwoodz! #northwoodz #klr #motocamping #advrider #dualsport amzn.to/42p5wQ4
I want to live in this place!
If you ever come to USA you are welcome to come up to the farm!
Eyyy, hello sir paul! This KLR 🔥
Jimbo! Hey there buddy, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! I will be posting more videos soon
@@thenorthwoodz I'll be waiting! I wanna show you my friend's KLR! it is customized as a classic!
@@jimbobernabe2737 Nice, I look forward to seeing it!
Thanks for the video. Not many of these for the KLR250
@@cowboyjules28 You’re welcome. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!
Nice!
Thank you!
What is considered an open choke? To the left or right?
That would be to the right. Meaning the choke is off.
@@thenorthwoodz So, is it normal that when the lever is to the right it runs good and if I push it to the left while running it shits the engine off? Is that what 'choke' means? I'm choking the engine of fuel when I move it left? Thanks my man
@@crypticreality8484 No problem, so when you close the choke you’re actually adding more fuel to the air / fuel mixture of what the engine is pulling in through the idle circuit. If it’s shutting the motor down when you close it all the way it’s basically adding too much fuel to the ratio. The choke is primarily used for when the temperatures are cold or in some cases very cold and the air is dense. Sometimes you may only have to only close the choke halfway to help the engine start. It does vary the fuel to air ratio as you slide it from open to closed.
@@thenorthwoodz do you know what the “s” and “r” label mean by chance
@@Matthew-dm3ry Sure thing, the S would be referring to start and the R would be run
Good info! Just cleaning my pegs up.
Thank you. Glad to see it was informative to you.
@@thenorthwoodz how think do you think the rubber pad is on the right side peg? My rubber is missing.
@@mr.bertnearnie3603 The rubber pad measures about 5/16 thick x 7/8 wide and 5/8 tall
Great video!! My 01’ klr250 just blew out. So i guess im getting 2qts of fork oil..!! Thank you very much for a detailed video!! Cheers 🍻
Thank you! Glad to see the video will be of help to you! Thanks for letting me know. Cheers! 🍻
How do you like the 15W over 10W?
It has made a difference for me. Seems to have slowed down the spring compression and rebound down some, keeping the front tire on the ground more when going fast over rough grounds. Haven’t had any colder temps yet below 30s Fahrenheit but so far so good!
Had a klr 250 back in the mid 90s. Despite the small displacement and rear drum brake it was still one of the best bikes ive owned.
I often see and hear the same things from many about their ever lasting experiences and impressions on their past KLR. Myself included, which made me rescue this one and bring it back to life. Especially years ago when the dual sport bikes were becoming the thing. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!
Awesome! Thanks for share. I ordered a pair for my little Barbie
Your very welcome. Glad to see the video helped you out. Thanks for stopping by and letting me know!
Why didn’t you show changing it out ?
Unfortunately after changing out the choke lever I seemed to have lost that part of the video file. Still getting the hang of editing. Thanks for stopping by.
It is a pretty simple install. If you have have any questions on it let me know.
I spent a week searching for an OEM switch assy as my clutch perch is broken, 30sec into your vid I see its a separate part and will be here tomorrow from Amz. I owe you one !!
Glad to see the video helped you out! Thanks for leaving a comment and letting me know.
This will be done by spring. My concern was in the clearance If I seen this video earlier, I would've ordered the pegs instead of new gripping and hand guards (progrip 714 and Tusk D-Flex). I probably could use the stock pegs from the KLR 650 until then. But, the rubber mounting was made me ordered Tusks for the 650 and better gripping + hard rubber surfaced and water/ mud.
Nice! Two main points of contact, hands and feet. You got some good hand grips with some protection. Tusk makes some great stuff at a affordable price! Man, after seeing everyone’s 650’s here on RUclips, wish I never sold mine now. Had some great times on it, then just went all in on it and bought nothing but 2 cycle race type bikes after. Now I’m getting back into the dual purpose bikes. These 250’s, are light and that 6th gear is awesome!
@@thenorthwoodz I gotta admit, I do enjoy my 650. But, every time I get in the 250 and take it off-roading. It makes me want to trade the 650 for something in the 300-400cc range that much more off-road capable and not as heavy
@@RockNDrums650 I totally agree with you there. That’s the main reason I let my 650 go. Definitely was nice on the road though and had descent capabilities for the dirt. Seemed like every time I rode mine hard off road I would end up breaking something.
@@thenorthwoodzI want to mention. If you don't mind a trip to Michigan. I do have my KLR currently listed to see what's out there. If you don't mind a project. Previous owner abused it and not in the good way. Let's say I had to replace pretty much everything that for it to run. Starter solenoid went out this summer and replaced that. The project part. For some reason the clutch keeps sticking or isn't disengaging fully.
@@RockNDrums650 Thanks for letting me know. At the moment I’m not looking for any new projects. However, I could mention it to people I know. What year and how much ? Also if you got a link to the listing I could relay them to it. After making sure the cable is adjusted properly and the clutch arm is released. Does the clutch seem to stick all the time, hot or cold ? Or does it stick only after sitting for a while then works after riding?
The bike is looking awesome with all the work done to it! And your video's are very informative!
Thank you my good friend! I appreciate the compliment.
Seen F22's rumnle the parking lot and building of the little town store i was walking out of, near my house.
Nice! I bet they shook that whole town a bit. One heck of a bird! Thanks for stopping by!
Can you do a video starting it, with close view to the peg? I am definetly pulling the trigger and doing this before next spring. But, need verifications I will not be stubbing my toes kicking it over 😅 BTW. We have the same KLR 250. Could you try the Eagle Mike KLX needle kit?
Haha! Sure I could do that. Give me a couple days and I’ll post a video on that clearance from the kick start to the peg. Also I’ve heard about the KLX needle kit but never tried it. I shimmed my needle up and went up a size on the main jet. Also opened up the hole to the vacuum port on the slide to 7/64 ths. Definitely fattened it up. The motor is responding sweet now all the way up to 9000 rpms. I’ve been looking for a big bore kit and would like to do some head port work along with some over sized valves. Will see how things go this winter. Keep an eye out for that video on the pegs, I’ll try to have one by the weekend
Are those Tusk foot pegs on your 250? I have both the 250 and gen 1 650. The stock foot pegs are too narrow. Esspecially for standing and first start of the day. Stock shifter not enough reach
Yes they sure are. They worked out great on the 250. I posted a video on the install. Tusk doesn’t list them for the 250’s. I went ahead and ordered a set from a gen 1 650 and they worked out great.
They flew fast over Chicago because if they had stopped the planes at O'Hare, the local "citizens" would have stripped the planes of everything.
Ha! You know it. The radios would of been the first thing to go! Wheels next
Detailed information and its application. Thanks for sharing !
Thanks, primalcry. Good to see you found it informative. I hope all is going great up there in your neck of the woods! Thanks for stopping by
@@thenorthwoodz Looking forward to seeing that bike and the rider in our neck of the Woodz 😎
For sure!
Thanks! My forks are leaking! Have you sorted out decent fork boots?
@@frostbitevinnie You’re very welcome! Good luck with changing out yours. Also, thanks for subscribing to the channel. After cleaning up my shock boots and seeing there were no cracks or tears I decided to keep them. They were a little dry and stiff. So I took some brake fluid and applied it heavily inside and out. Wrapped them with paper towels and more fluid. After about a day saturating they softened up and became pliable again.
link to the turn signal and headlight?
Sure, the turn signals I bought on Amazon, here’s the link: amzn.to/3tgcF9h if the link doesn’t work here in the comments, I will put it in under the video description where it should. The turn signals are compatible with the KLR 250. However, you may have to do a simple mod to mount the left rear signal. The stud on the one signal was a little short to screw on the nut. You can use a step drill and remove about 1/4 inch from where it mounts to the bike or trim off some of the material on the rear of the signal. Kawasaki spot welded 2 washers on the rear left mount, making it thicker then the other mounting locations. The headlight I bought on eBay last winter. I checked the seller I bought it from. Unfortunately, he no longer has them. However, type in at eBay “4x6 LED headlight for a TW200” I seen other sellers who do have them and in other styles. I hope this helps you out
These look much more comfortable. I need to remind myself to watch this again when I can finally get around to the pegs. Thank you for your tip!
Hey there Howdaay! Your very welcome. Yes, they sure are. What a difference they sure do make. Especially when standing up. Thanks for stopping on by and commenting. Appreciate the support. Have fun working on your bike and happy trails to ya!
thanks for making this video, ill be putting this shifter on my bike
Your very welcome. It’s a nice addition to the KLR. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Happy trails to ya!
Iv been looking at a really good condition one, same color {great looking bike} for $1800 that dude says needs a valve adjustment....Im thinking it just needs carb work cuz these Kawi's seem to go forever with any valve adjustments. I did a KLX, DRZ, and KDX so far as projects and currently kept the DRZ {KLX400} cuz the bike fits me and my riding damn well.
Awesome! Looks like you found a nice one. They sure are very reliable machines and that 6th gear is money! I had the KLR 650 and in some ways prefer the 250 over it. Especially when your off road. If all that bike needs is some carb work that would be great. If not you can have that seat, tank and valve cover off in 15-20 minutes to check the valve clearance and put it back together using the same rubber gasket. Thanks for stopping by and happy trails to ya!
These look awesome. am seriously considering for my 250
Right on howdaay. They sure are awesome looking and I really like the way they’re working out so far. They have them in standard length and the shortys like I showed in the video. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
Looking Sharp, nice set up!
Thanks! The new levers are working out great so far. Smooth as butter!
Gotta love working on bikes with the chickens! 😁👍
No doubt! Trained one of the hens to hand me tools as I need them 😁 she’s quite helpful!
LOL what is it about bikers and chicks 🐥
@@Mr.Woodz1085 Great question! Something about that rumble and going fast I reckon!?
Got one that has been sitting for over 20 years, its currently in my shop and i'm waiting for parts to arrive it's even the same color as yours
Thats awesome! Nice to see another person bringing an older KLR back to life. I had a 650 many years ago and prefer the 250 over it, especially off the road. That 6th gear is money! Thanks for stopping by and have fun with working on and riding your KLR!
Nike video man! I’m going to buy the same bike next week! Looks like your in Canada too?
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! The KLR 250 is great bike! They should of never stopped building them. Have fun with your new KLR! and no I am down in the USA. Thanks for stopping by!
Klr250 mafia!
Heck yeah! I like the sound of that! Thanks for stopping by and the sub!
This is definitely one of the better KLR videos I've seen of someone ripping through the snow with ease and experience. I own a '95 and am currently attempting to perfect every inch. Any chance you can share what headlight that is?
Thanks for stopping by, glad you enjoyed the video! The KLR is a lot of fun out in the snow. If it was earlier in the winter I would put some studs on those tires and gain some traction! The headlight I got off ebay. The sellers name is autoclub 363 he sells them for 29.99. Type in - 4x6 Motorcycle Square LED Headlight YAMAHA TW200. It's a descent light for the price. It has a aluminum housing with heat sinks on the back, 2 vented valves, a H4 plug in that fits the KLR factory wiring harness. It fits the factory headlight housing perfectly. However, you wont be able to use the factory screw adjustments for adjusting left or right, which is really useless anyways. The height adjustment was right on. Hope this helps you out and have fun with that 95 your building!
Also, I got to give credit where credit is due, I got the tip from the channel Jason Galbraith here on RUclips. He has a video on it and also other things he has done to his KLR. Check his channel out you may find other things of interest.
@@thenorthwoodz aah I was very close to picking up a TW200 a couple months ago before someone beat me to the deal. I liked that it had both an electric and kick start in case electric ever failed (pre-2000 model). This headlight is looking really reasonably priced for a dramatic improvement. This is exactly what I needed to know, thank you so much!
@@thenorthwoodz This is right up my alley, I appreciate the recommendation! He just gained a new subscriber
@@howdaay No problem, glad to help out. Electric start along with a kicker is definitely a good thing. I never rode a TW but seen and heard a lot of good things about them.
