This part in the episode is funny, but it contradicts Poirot's culinary tastes. The show made great fun of his taste in food earlier in the episode by having him proudly serving pigs feet covered in goo. In another episode, he happily ate calves' brains fried in butter. In yet another episode, he ate lambs kidneys on a skewer. So, the idea that Poirot would turn up his nose at this particular meal is profoundly silly. There's my two cents worth.

I'm sure the Belgians ate as much offal back then as we did. But I expect they were a lot more gracious in naming it...

I love this, Poirot trying to pass on his knowledge and Hastings off in his own little dream world! Fingers crossed they bring Hastings (aka the marvellous Hugh Fraser) back for the last episodes; the programme wasn't so much fun after Hastings, Miss Lemon and Chief Inspector Japp were ditched (I don't care if they weren't in the books, that partnership worked so well).

Totally agree, psammiad! You don't have to look any further than the 'Carry on' movies to see how much we British appreciate the double entendre!

Hmm, I'm not sure if there is a full Poirot soundtrack available anywhere apart from the title theme, which I was able to acquire from a very obscure website a long time ago. If anyone can find any more, I'd love to know as well!

Can't you just imagine in a deleted scene: "Hastings, you wouldn't believe the things the Inspector Japp eats!" I'd love to hear how Hastings would explain it all. LOL I used to question why Poirot often has Japp over for dinner (in the TV series), but not the reverse. Seeing this clears it right up for me. lol

I think it's 'comment' instead of 'como'. In French, the pronunciation is the same.

One of my favorite scenes in all of the episodes, for sure.

I JUST watched this episode and laughed at this part, too, and when Hastings giggled about Poirot teasing Miss Lemon. I love her and wish she was in all of the episodes, along with Hastings and Japp. Such great casting.

@jshweid Thanks for clearing that up, I'll add it to the description. I had to look it up myself because I had no idea there was a food called that before this episode, and that the term "faggot" was only used to mean a branch/bundle of branches (in Britain) or a derogatory term for a gay man (America). Even without this language mix-up, I still think the scene is hilarious. I love these characters!
