Following the passing of my favourite ever guitar player, the most inspirational guitar player, the most unique guitar player, I went through relearning the songs that had influenced and inspired me. Mean Streets is one of my favourite songs of all time. Eddie wasn't just a flashy lead player, his song writing and rhythm playing I arguably hold above his lead playing so that's saying something!...

A rocked up version of Gary Numan/Sugarbabes tune. I created a little track to play over, shamelessly stole the idea from Paul Gilbert. I love combining the major and minor for those tasty licks.

Fight For Your Rights - Motley Crue - Guitar Cover by Louis Sebastian
Well done video. The more I listen to the differences in pickups, tone, etc, the more I realize I love them all. But I do prefer certain tones for certain songs I play.
Steve Howe on Yessongs tune yours is no disgrace....clean guitar and wha...🎉🎉
Im at a conundrum hard choice do I get the Slash pro 2s or alnico5s for Christmas I just got a les paul special wat should I do
@@Wykdgypsyroknout Alnico Pro II's for a smoother, creamier sound. Most pickups designed around Alnico 5 will be more aggressive, more pronounced high mids and deeper bass
Which one more suitable for heavy riffs?
@@andrey__shintar A5 in my opinion as it has a slight mid scoop in the low mids
Sweet playing!
sounds so good
Great playing and awesome demo! Both sound amazing. Timmy is a little more neutral across the board and doesn't change/color the original amp tone quite as much but it's only by a small margin. Both work great here and can't go wrong either way.
Should do a Billy Gibbons tribute 😊
It's a good demo, but it has the same issue i find with a lot of demos like this have, namely that you have to keep rolling back and jumping forward on the timestamp in order to really hear the difference between them. Imo the best way to do a shootout, and one that I've literally only seen done in a couple videos, is to just play one continuous thing while you toggle back and forth between the two as your playing it so you can hear the change in tone. It's FAR easier to compare the two on a format like this. With that said, this video did put my apprehension in the B.E.D to bed (no pun intended). I had the original Epoch and found the preamp far too dark. Don't get me wrong, i play a Strat and usually have the tone control on the neck back to 8-ish and the bridge between 6-8, i set the presence rolled way back on Plexis and have the treble rolled all the way off on my Lightkeeper Preamp. I have no issue with dark, but I'd rather it start out with treble that i have to roll off. I always want a little extra horsepower available, whether that be in the form of volume or treble and i found that i had to use an EQ after it to add some top end back in. The Deluxe here sounds much better.
Alnico 2 is much better in my ears.
when you do your licks at 4:29 you seems to lose high ends, that’s weird
Very noticeable, even with overdrive over it. Alnico 3 is super nice, nice hi-end and balanced lo-end.
Hi Louis, thanks for this interesting video! I prefer the A2 in the bridge humbucker, both in clean and overdriven settings. It tames the high end a bit, which, for some players, is a good thing for a bridge pickup. For the neck humbucker I prefer the A5 which gives a bit more treble and presence in that position. And I always found that humbuckers without covers sound better to my ears. Great playing too!
The higher the gain I think the Alnico 5 starts to sound better. Overall I preferred the Alnico 2, especially for the cleans and slightly overdriven.
Better than the original 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
1:41/1:51
Reverb sound from the daw? Room? Sounds like some old school plate but that’s definitely a big part of that sound that is often overlooked.
Can't remember exactly but was probably SoundToys Little Plate plug in
This is very helpful. Thank you for the demo! That early VH tone is exactly what I'm after. Have you compared the Maestro to the Dunlop Echoplex and preamp pedals?
Sounds like crap with IRs load boxes and all that garbage. Might as well use a modeler.
great video
i agree with you louis ..i like both pickups im not very picky
Thank you from Brasil!
Dude, nice soloing. You not only nailed the technicality of it, but really got Marty's feel too.
Great video. I’m lucky to have two EP3s, an EP4, BED, BE, Dunlop EP-103 and just bought a Starlight. In isolation I thought the Starlight was closer to an EP-3 but even with the preamp toggled on in the app I’m finding it brighter than all of the others. Have you tried a Starlight yet?
I haven't, I moved away from Echoplex style delays with preamps etc. as they seem to make noise in parallel rigs and professionally I now always use parallel rigs and need Midi functionality. Starlight looks interesting but no analog dry through means it won't work with my setups.
A5 more mud
Thanks for this alternate version. I read somewhere that you also wrote the music. As an amateur recordist/musician, I pick songs I like and try to recreate them. It's a fun hobby. I picked this song to figure out off the CD. On Glass Sky I used a strat, bridge pick up with a low gain Marshall for the intro. A heavy compressed drum sound with a second snare for that big "Whack" during the gang vocals. Not sure how many layers of vocals but I have 6 takes so far and it is getting close - although the background vocals are pretty buried. I am a little stuck on the synth pads because I can feel them but they only pop up now and then. That will take a while. The solo is cool and the scale has a few outside notes that really make it shine. I have watched some live videos but have not gotten a good view. You should shoot a video of the solo because it has some twists that might help some people (me!) I set up a Soldano amp sim and a humbucker EVH that sounds right tonally. Anyway, its a great song, outstanding performance and a dynamic recording. I hope it gets the reception the song deserves. Its a really good CD and worth the price (I don't do Spotify).
Going from alnico 2 to 5 is very noticeable when its your own gear and you know it well, its harder for me to notice the difference on other peoples rigs, but when its the one i use on a daily basis, its night and day in terms of tonal qualities and feel
I was a big believer in A5 and I have several guitars with them but I am leaning toward the A2 for the mid presence. I may need to do some magnet swaps! THanks,
My favorite pedal. Best to get the Deluxe.
I cant hear a difference. I don’t think actually swapped them.
I can ensure you I did swap the magnets. This was the first video I ever made, all on my phone, would have been better with a cut to me showing the process of swapping the magnets. Also pick attack is hard to get exactly the same, it could and should have been closer. A2 has slightly thicker midrange, A5 has a more focused midrange, a cut around 300hz ish compared to A2 and slightly more bass and treble than A2.
I heard no difference.
A2 was warmer / thicker / rounder. And A5 was brighter / more articulate, and in your face.
That's it. A guitar loaded with either I wouldn't swap them out -- love them both Creamy muscular bright 🌟
Awsome track Awsome video amazing guys
Great video and wonderful tones. I have a pedalboard with a Klon clone, and I was deciding whether to put my Timmy or a Bbpreamp for a solo sound. I have a fender amp and a Telecaster. What do you suggest?
Depends what music genre you're playing and whether you put the Timmy/BB before or after the Klon. If you want more volume put your OD/boost after your main overdrive, if you want more compression/distortion put it before but you won't get the volume boost. For Collateral's music, for the solo sound I need a EQ boost into the Distortion (for more sustain/compression) and a clean boost after for higher volume, but that's hard rock.
Hellllllll ya
The difference is half a notch on amp tone knob.
Great video. I already have a Timmy and it seems to have something “more” than the POT, but there’s something about the POT that has me thinking I will probably get it as well. Too many choices!
Sounds amazing!
.... I thoroughly enjoyed all of that! ... Also respectfully including one of Ed's best photos.👍
Very good. Much better than most covers out there that treat the intro as if Hendrix was playing funk.
I think most people go for the live version vibe, I always loved Electric Ladyland and it's in my top 5 albums of all time. The vibe of the recorded versions is just perfection, same goes for Watchtower!
Alnico 3 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Alnico2 is more harsh, but no body.. A nice vintage or metalized lead punk sound... The alnico 5 has a natural nasal sound much more punch in heavy metal but a little generic specialy when the strings decay... Hard decision but easy judgin by the style you want
was the blackjack a h30 55 or 75hz

Very nice comparison. The differences are subtle but there.
Really useful video. Thanks! My experience using A-IIs v A-Vs is more about feel than tone. A-IIs play softer while A-Vs are tighter and punchier. I think they affect the way I play more than the way I sound tbh.
Great review. Hooking up my Timmy🤗🤗🤗🤗
Alnico 5 has more treble
A5 all the way for me
Can’t get this sl67 to have a dirtier tone or sustain , I got the matching cab too , and it’s the second one built maybe it’s different the first batch
Have you tried turning the volume and master volume on 10? is it the Mk II? they look great! I've had mine modded with a 50k mid pot, switchable bright cap and now has arguably too much gain
