Thermostat Housing New METAL Replacement 05-10 v6 Ford Mustang
This is a step by step for replacing the thermostat housing (and thermostat) for a 2005-2010 v6 4.0L Ford Mustang. Also, there is now an aluminum thermostat housing/water outlet available to replace the plastic thermostat housings. Whether you are installing a plastic or metal housing, this video aids in the installation. Both types are the same install process shown in this video.
I'm not affiliated with the company that makes the aluminum ones but I have found these on Amazon and eBay. I prefer them because I have had 4 plastic ones leak on the same car and was glad to find an aluminum part that will hopefully solve the problem.
let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best ...

I did this job......worked fine, BUT, THE PART WAS TOO EXPENSIVE......THEY WERE REASONABLE TILL EVERYONE EVENTUALLY NEEDED THiS FIX....THEN THEY STARTED GOUGING EVERYONE. THERE iS A PROBLEM WITH THE SAME YEARS GROUNDING PROBLEM THAT DESTROYS ALTERNATORS AND BATTERYS. DID THAT JOB TOO.

I noticed when I went to make this repair I had a lower valance in the way that I had to take off and I noticed you didn’t have one. Do you think it’s safe to leave it off?

Ok so I know I’m late but maybe someone can possibly help. I have a 05 mustang that I recently attempted to change the thermostat housing on. After changing it and starting the car, coolant was shooting out from where the thermostat connection resides. It also shout out from the hole next to the connection. I’m confused on what I did wrong.

Are the aluminum housings reliable? I've replaced two plastic housings and I'm tired of messing with it. Any problems with sloppy machining or bad fits, etc?

so i was in a rush this morning to work, only had 30 minutes to swap this guy out, and this video really guided me. although i didn’t have time to let it run without the cap. since then my heater only blows cold and AC… also a very old thing, wiper fluid isn’t coming out. gonna try letting it idle for a bit in a few hours without the cap to see if that helps at all

If anyone can answer my question. If I'm adding coolant back into the system and start my car what happens if the heating in my car doesn't work? I can only run AC atm. Can I just leave my car on and drive around without heating instead and let it run coolant until I need to fill it again?

Hey Mike, I am looking to buy the replacement housing since mine is leaking, but everywhere I search does not have the seals with the housing. Where did you purchase the thermostat housing from, and if seperate where did you also purchase the seals from? A link would be extremely helpful.

I switched off the temp sensor to the new one with the pin but the hole on the right aide of it won't stay cover with the cap and pin it easily pops out...is that normal ? or does that hole and cap need to be tight ? anyone know ?

don't you think the metal housing could build up some corrosion in the future? I am getting mine too though just because the plastic ones are a piece of crap, but I will keep and eye on corrosion, I guess we just gonna have to drain the coolant and replace it more often if that happens.
