Improved VR Throwing in Unreal Engine 5, Part 1

A quick video on how to improve the feel of throwing small objects in Unreal 5. Part 2 will include some tweaks/ using some vector math to further improve the feel, and deal with with oddly shaped objects. That will be up next week. Sorry for some of the editing hiccups, I have a completely different setup than i used to make my old videos and am still getting used to it. Thanks to @okreylos fo...
VR Lab Ep2: OVRInput Basics and Fingerguns!
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.4 года назад
Welcome to episode 2 of VR labs! Today were talking about inputs and cooking up a little demonstration. Next up I will be making a part two to this video where we get more into the nitty gritty of input controls and get some more interesting functionality for our finger guns. After that in Episode 3 we will be exploring how physics work in unity, what special considerations there are in VR, and...

Just the basics of how to set up an oculus VR project in unity. If there is any game design concept you would like to see explored on the channel, go ahead and leave a comment! We'll be doing lots of weird junk in future videos but since this video is basically a re-hash of Valem's basic set up, I felt I should leave a link to his channel. ruclips.net/video/sKQOlqNe_WY/видео.html I do a few thi...

Just the basics of setting up a custom capture the flag game. Death match is up next, and if I can get the team sorting chips to work how I want them to I might try and create some more interesting game modes (man with the golden gun, Oddball, that sort of thing)

Excellent work
reminds me of half life alyxs mechanics
Thank you so much! Both videos on this are amazingly helpful. Plese do more. The way you explain everything is clear, straight-forward and easy to follow. I think you're the perfect candidate for a full-time teacher, kids will love you. Cheers!
hey man! can you make a tutorial with a bow and arrow? I Imagine the player grabbing the arrows from his back and putting them into the bow, something like that would be amazing
@@basilhsxatzhkostas it’s coming! There are going to be a couple of videos before it though, and the bow set up is going to need the functions I’ll go over in those videos. It’s going to use some of the mechanics from the javelin in the second throwing mechanics video, but it’s also going to need holsters and two handed grabbing, both of which are going to be there own videos.
Thanks for the easy to follow video, still not working for me here which is really strange. I followed your steps a few times, even completely started a new object from scratch. I'm using a Quest 2, and am working inside a project built for mobile. Do you think this is messing with something?
Is it possible to add this functionality to the grab type? Make a custom grab type that can do this so then in objects you just have to change the grab type to make them throwable instead of duplicating objects with this blueprint?
Thank for the tutorial.
cool
I'm surprised nobody commented on the audio Playing "Wow" every time he threw it through the box, lol. I don't know why but that made me laugh so hard by keep hearing that.
I originally wanted to make it Owen Wilson saying "Wow" but I was worried about a copyright strike. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@vigorousrapscallion4242 Omg that would of been perfect! But yeah true about the copyright strike.
This is brilliant, thank you! Are you using 5.4? I'm following your steps but for some reason I can't throw my object at all, it drops dead in front of me (physics is being simulated)... I have seen comments about velocity bugs in 5.4 so thought I'd check first while trying to workout what I've done wrong.
I'm using 5.34 in this video, I had some glitches trying to build projects for quest in 5.4. Is the standard functionality working, or is even the original grab cube example that comes in the VR starter content doing that? If it's the latter it's probably an issue with 5.4, but if it's the former I would check all your vector inputs. I can't tell you how many times I spent an hour futzing with random things only to realize I had accidentally unhooked one of those vectors lol.
I have the same issue did you find the fix?
I couldn’t fix the issue so unplugged the logic for now and was hoping it’s a change or bug in 5.4 that might be fixed later.
@@SpookyPicturesNZ Well I've got some time today, Ill try setting it up in 5.4 and see if there is any foible I can identify
Oh wow, that’s amazing. Thanks for taking a look!
Your back!
Five years later and making videos for a totally different engine, but I’m back yeah lol.
@@vigorousrapscallion4242 haha yeah
Thank you this is sloping me make a horror game
Dose any one know how to delay an animation
How do you add delay to a trigger handle
this is stupid as hell i didnt learn anything
I like how easy and convenient the old menus were. The newer the GUI gets, the worse it gets
Agreed
Real i wish they keept all the buttons and stuff in the same place but just redo the looks of the ui, like even still to this day it takes me a bit to find a certain setting
What is the chip you used
Would the combinator chip send an output value if 2 inputs are equal to 1?
hak Kirk I agree !
Cant do like u, in pc or this new version
Just a question. Are you alive?
This is going to help me so much with holotars. This works on holatars right?
Pls come back we miss you😭😭😭😭😭
FINALLY I CAN FINISH MY GAME!!!
Dang this is an old video.
At 1:43 I couldn’t see how much you put on the blue signal
Are you able to make it so it randomized states in a changing pattern?
Thank you so much; exactly what I was looking for!! 👍
How do I subtract the variable?
He really needs to cut to the chaseHe talks so so I could do what you say wear this today instead going so R-value possible value equals P value and then you get the point
At 3:32 the buttons not connected to anything but still works. How?
IS THERE EVEN A BUTTON THERE!?!?!?!
Does this still work in 2021? It doesn’t end the game when it hits 3 points
I wonder how vigorous rapscallion would react to circuits-v2
It's crazy how much recroom circuits has changed since this video
Omg it's a sandbox machine XD
Sws5tt
Still won’t start game
us 3 years later: wow look at how hard it was to make games back then in rec room.
What?
The updated version of this: Grab a game chip and a capture the flag chip, then grab the flags (search up flags and it'll show up). Make sure to configure each to their respective teams, then BAM. Capture the flag game mode
Is it a game state chip a game rules chip or a paintball capture the flag circuit board
@@bananamanjo3 Game rule circuit board and a Capture the flag circuit board, and the most important part is to wire the two boards together, because if you don't it WILL NOT WORK
@@xthedman420x8 thanks dude
is there another way to do it without the button?
Trigger volume probably works
The selector chip is more intimidating with the old configure menu ngl
.
Him: here we go Me: man maker pen looks different
i hope this wil help me create the randomised targets like in aimlabs, cuse i want to try to create some of these challenges in rec room. could be very cool to practise vr aiming this way
So I have a question. Can I simply clamp an animation onto an object? (For example like making a torch with moving fire)
I am making a weapon from hunterxhunter ( kites power)
Thank you
I just want to make al little obby course I can play on my treadmill with some timed doors and platform jumping... I can't even find a obby sample anywhere so I have platforms surrounded by falls into holes
code sample for timed door please? thanks. i want a door to stay open for 30 seconds after hitting swtich
ya, even trying this it still only works when I throw the weapon in and not when I shoot it.
