In later versions in the 70s at the end, he said, "no more will Stratford see him play ball, I'm trading the bum to Montreal". Also, he told him to "hit that Pepsi Cola sign". W&S would always improve their skits and make them more relevant to the time, usually it was more funny.

I grew up just south of the Canadian border in Montana and would always watch 'Wayne & Shuster,' no matter what else was on at the time; that plus 'Hockey Night in Canada.' This was from CJLH from Lethbridge, Alberta that we received over our black & white. Probable saw this originally when I was but eight or nine.

This was so funny, it still holds up after more than 50 years! I've read that many comedians cited Wayne and Shuster as inspiration because of their perfect comic timing, and you can definitely see it here. Also the fact that they obviously had formal theatre training; I suspect that many audiences today wouldn't get the full humour of this because we no longer have as much familiarity with Shakespeare.

French was never in decline??? What an idiot. We were told to ‘speak white’ when we wanted to be served in French.

This is really fascinating to me- I am an American who learned French in high school, but seriously picked it back up a few years ago. It has been REALLY hard to practice speaking French outside of specific Meetup/language groups (which usually only exist in bigger cities). most Americans learn a second language in HS, but because of US size and English is mostly spoken, most Americans don't have a huge (practical) reason to practice their second language. I wish there were more francophones here in the US! Maybe I should move to Quebec.

Censoring speech has always been justified as a way to protect the people and culture. Censoring what language business uses on signs or what language is in books by force is no different than historic burning of books or other documents by the church or governments in order to protect the peoples current way of life. It really is the same thing. Tear down a sign, or close a school its censoring speech.

In Montreal and I can't even read documents about housing laws and statistics in English. I speak functional French but these documents have advanced legal jargon that is difficult for most people. It really really adds uncertainty and risk to doing business in Montreal. I pay a lot of taxes in Quebec and I can't even read civil documents in English about the business I want to invest in.

My personal story about Bill 101. When Bill 101 has been introduced, I was attempting the 4th class of elementary of a full english shool and, in the middle of that year I had to move to a francophone shool. Of course my french was very poor at that time. It was very frustrating, humiliating and dishearting for me as a kid of nine years old. My personal opion on this is that the Bill 101 is "great" only on paper but, as a country law, it is comparable to the apartheid is South Africa. In particular, it doesn't put at the center of it's legislation the person "human being" , it's citizens. The application of Bill 101 is terrible it does't concern the variety of the multicultural population of it's nation and all kinds of different situations that there was and can still be. It's simply electioneering, a vindication of the French to the defeats suffered by the British, a bad law in its implementation and not at all comparable to the grandeur and magnificence of the great juridical French history. Why the rest of Canada do not understand ONCE AND FOR ALL the rights that francophone people in Quebec have to speak ONLY in French in their land. The French language settled here way before English, and this province ALWAYS was majority Francophone since the beginning. This FUCKING bilingualism just works for Quebec, and this shit was always forced in the direction of the Québecois. I don't see NO signs of bilingualism in TORONTO, VANCOUVER, CALGARY, etc, and if you try to speak in French in these places the people perhaps laugh on your face. It's normal that 85% of management positions were Anglophone cause the owners were Anglophone. If this bothers French people then they can open up their own businesses and hire francophones to management.

Keep Canada together! This is not an argument, but an emotion. On ne peut nier la longue liste de ces choix pro-Ontario au détriment de notre économie. Il apparaît évident que A. Mercurio adopte une position purement idéologique et politique non seulement contre la langue, mais la réalité sociologique de la présence du français. Elle argumente émotivement et donne de fausses informations comme le souligne justement J. Drouin. Les indicateurs sociologiques démontrer effectivement le déclin du français.Elle représente très bien la mauvaise fois des personnes qui dans tous les pays se refusent à accorder ou même comprendre les conséquences des dérèglement sociolinguistique. À titre d'exemple, l'importante place de la langue chinoise dans la grande région de Vancouver. Heureusement que T. Drimanos et J. douin ont été présente pour nous aider à comprendre les enjeux important.
