Mesmerized // Oil Painting with a Story

The camera was set to take a very long exposure of the night sky so there was nothing left for him to do but wonder around the mountainous landscape and make sure he stays out of site of the camera. It was cold. Wearing shorts was a perfect choice while on the long hike. It was hard work and his body was sufficiently warm along the way. Now it’s a different story. Cold and slightly shivering he...
Reverence // Oil Painting With Narrative

When he thought of Hawaii the first images that came to mind were beaches and women in bathing suits. But, when he had a chance to go there his urge for hiking and experiencing nature brought him to features of the landscape he had no idea existed. The pinnacle of his trip was when he hiked to the top of a small mountain that ended in a cliff surrounded by enormous wall of a majestic volcanic c...

A young boy who had been playing on the beach all day. Digging holes, finding small creatures from the sea, some dead, some alive and generally having a great time suddenly realizes that it’s getting too dark to see. He morns the end of the full day of playing, he wants it to go on forever. Then he looks out to the sea at the fading sun beyond the horizon and all of his passion for play and dis...

Drowning in the Day to Day // Oil Painting
Hey Chris, you're back! It's good to see you. Several times recently, I have almost sent you an email to check-in. My studio is coming along, but it's still not finished. I also got a new job. I'll still email you soon to tell you all about it.
Thank you
Hi chris!! Cool to find an OPL family member here on the tube!! And this video was a very insightfull, thanks!
Good to see you back
Dude this is awesome😊😊
Great tip!
Wow
Thank you! ❤️ That is very helpful and inspiring. I wonder, is it even possible to ever reach some truly personal style? The one which will be joyful and inspiring in the longterm. Sometimes it seems to me, that successful artists are caged in their style. They are doomed to paint the same subjects the same way just to stay afloat. Only the best of the best dared to switch styles drastically and stayed popular, kept riding the wave. I wonder isn’t is the same as with technical mastery? There will always be space to improve your skills even further. Maybe the same is true for the style? A lifelong quest… then we just have to have fun and satisfaction along that way.
hey! I just discovered your videos and are gold!! why you aren't here? how can I learn more from you!!? hope you are doing ok!! hugs!
How amazing is this video ?! Thank you !
You are awesome 😎 bro
Best video ever thank you so much 🫶🏼
I prefer Masonite.Harder Costs less and You can spray paint it without worrying about it melting :D
Idk man, some of those colors look pretty edible
This is awesome! Ive been wanting to paint my poodle - youve inspired me to just go for it. Any tips on how to paint tight curls .. or the impression of? Hahaha! Thanks so much for sharing this!
I only use linseed oil and stand oil and I've been so confused on if this applies to me. ( I also only use water mixable oils)
Thank you for your suggestions!! I just started using oils and was quite worried about the toxicity associated with using the medium. So good to know about these alternatives and will give them a shot so that i can have some peace of mind as i paint in my bedroom!
My oil painting teacher has been an artist for over 70 years. She uses cadmiums, lead white and liquin. She's 85 years old with no visible respiratory issues. But, I doubt she's ever eaten her paints nor drank her mediums.
Next up how to oil paint without oil.
疾走感が出てる。
Quick question, what's in the brush washer? Is it water? I wasn't able to find that in the comments. Great video and solvent free for life!!!
Soak brushes in Gamblin Safflower Oil. I took notes.
11:40 wouldn't the ferulle be damaged if you submerge it like that ?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hi Chris. Thanks so much for your video. Im wondering what is in your brush washer, the step before putting the brush in safflower oil? Thanks!
Dude that art is awesome but by the way can you do Megalodon charcoal drawing
It looks real
Hey Chris, I've been spending all my money on water-soluble oils because I didn't want to get into solvents. But your oily hair-and-soap analogy is brilliant, thanks...!!! I have been racking my brain how I can use use the less expensive normal oils of which there are also much more colours available, and I think your solvent-free approach will finally make this possible for me. Thank you so much for posting this!!! 🙂🙂🙂
Dude that is AWESOME! Im going to bring back my hobby and get back into drawing dinosaurs
Ive just restarted as well
I didn't catch how you clean your palette where you are mixing your paints. Are you using palette paper?
Nicely done 🎉
Wtf
The lead molecule is larger than the opening in your skin so the only way to get into the body is stuff it up your nose or eat it. Cadmium molecules are also quite large in relation to your pores as well. Odorless turps still loads the air with hydrocarbons and is still not good for you. Making it orderless does not reduce the risk.
Is this guy high?
😂❤
I love this guy
I love Gamblin
Thank you for this! I love Krita as an art program, there are just so little people doing tutorials of it that are actually clear
Im mad that this only has 2.3k likes and people who copy videos from other people get like 5m likes, Im supporting you always dude ❤
You try hard…. 👍
I don’t see how this doesn’t have like 30 million views by now.
Great Demo! Williamburg and Rublev have Munsell notation for their oil paints. I really wanna get the Munsell color chip book.
I found this very useful, thank you for your tips and perspective - it got me thinking and made me reflect on how much I value painting as an act of expression (rather than it's output). Keep up the awesome work, Chris!
Hi, thanks for this video. Very interesting. I'm using Van Gogh paint by Royal Talens, also Daler Rowney/Georgian. They do have pigment indications on the tube but how do I convert this in Munsell values?
I'm making a portable drafting board made out of an oak kitchen cupboard door as I watch this.
Is it safe to use liquin original for oil paints???
Thank you!
Now that she did the cosplay herself, this is very cool to see
Hi Chris 👋, I’m researching safe oil painting techniques before I go out and buy a set to try. Can you tell me how you actually paint using the gel medium? Can you paint alla prima with the gel, or do you have to wait days for each layer to dry? How do you clean your brushes as you paint? Do you use a different brush for each core colour? Do you pinch into a rag to clean as you paint? Lastly, how do you deal with the rags when you’ve finished a session? Do you still need to keep oil paint/gel soaked rags in a fireproof bin if you’re not using a solvent? I’m so confused as to the actual full process and safe cleanup process. Thanks for sharing your wonderful work!

You can adhesive felt pads inside the binder clips where the felt touches the paper, and the adhesive glue is against the clip. I usually use this method to hold fragile reference photos where the client doesn't want marks. Also you can stack the felt pads if needed.
