hey i actually know a decent bit about toxicology and lab testing on mice/rats and i'm just gonna say, uh, people know that mice are a terrible measure and there's a series of tests between there and human trials in pretty much all cases. i dont know about global standards but with the EPA, safety testing on rats or mice includes the highest possible cofactor of overestimation of the result in order to be absolutely certain it always stays on the side of safe, living, unpoisoned people when in doubt so, say the LD50 for a toxicant was found to be 3 mg/kg body mass, it'd be pretty normal to see that number divided by 30 or more depending on the factors surrounding the experiment if *everything was ideal* except for the test subjects being mice/rats [the result is then a recommendation never to exceed 0.1 mg/kg of the toxicant]
