EMILAR 15” DUPLEX TYPE SPEAKER SOUND SAMPLE — EXTREMELY RARE
Bet you've never seen one of these! Similar to the Altec 604 15” Duplex speakers, this is a very rare, low-production Emilar Duplex-Type woofer-tweeter combination. Emilar is a fairly unknown, ultra high quality and performance loudspeaker company based out of Anaheim (DisneyLand) California. Everything about Emilar is over-the-top as far as build quality, materials used. Jonas Renkus was the founder and chief engineer at Emilar, and may have part of the Altec design team which partially explains the similarity of this speaker to the famous Altec Duplex speakers. Unfortunately, this Emilar duplex-type design may have created too many Altec similarities and Emilar discontinued this speaker...

I have a 760, but they just don't have the punch that tubes provide.
I was in a high in 1980 when I saw a Leslie for the first time . Creed from Memphis Tennessee. Keyboard guy was cool as can be. Showed me how it worked and he was playing a Hammond.
Nice. Would love a pair!
Vintage field-coil Jensens are great speakers ! Sorry. All I've got these days are a pile of vintage JBLs, Gauss and Altecs !
I had that 910 and B3 in 1973
Hey John. I have a 1936 Model A. Do you know where I can buy that resistor? AO-19124-15 I'm not sure where to buy it to try this out. Can you lead me in the right direction? thanks. j.
What if the problem continues? Run motor does not stay on even after replacing the resister.
What resistors are made today that you can use for replacement?
I need help with my E-312. Motor spins then it gets choked and does not spin the tone generator. It’s a self synchronous motor
My resistor tested bad so I replaced it. The resistor was a B12J25OE (I was told this is the same as the AO-19124-15) This had no effect so I have pulled out the run Motor. How do I test the motor to see if is bad?
Hello -- try using your ohm meter on the motor. No ohms?? The windings are probably bad and the motor needs to be replaced. There are two motors on the older Hammond models; the Start Motor, and, the Run Motor.
I recently have been working on my 1960 M3 after taking the organ out of storage after 20 years. This had the front cover still on it so the insides are very clean. Tube checked and replaced as needed amp tubes. Hammond oil to left cup for scanner and motor, both middle and right cups had three doses of filling cup, that was Friday night. Saturday checked and had some squeeling bearings so I left it alone. Sunday night so two days later: tonight I realized that some heat might get the oil to flow better. After ten minutes of going up and down the generator on the bottom side slowly back and forth, I started the organ and had NO SQUEEELING!! When I shut down the generator is ran for 16 seconds until it stopped. I imagine this might be rare? but if your organ is squeeling give it some loving heat! Johnne in Clallam Bay, WA.
Hi just wanted to know. The fact that the 910’s bottom rotor does not spin on slow… does this sound bad? How much of the sound does one miss out on and is it noticeable? Thanks for the video and great playing btw.
The Leslie "Pro" series was made to compete with high amplified guitar amps -- I guess Leslie decided that the bass slow rotor speed was not critical and that "foundation" bass notes without the Leslie-effect was best. Another problem is changing out the motor belt, which is very difficult on the 900 series Leslies. And, not having a two-speed motor system on the bass cabinet means that it can be safely transported in any position - back, down, side, etc. With a two-speed motor, the bass cab motor could be damaged in any position except right-side-up; this is true of any two-speed Leslies, including the 122 and 147.
Thanks so much for the information. I’m a sucker for Leslie speakers so I’ll probably buy it regardless. Thanks again!
Nope -- the bottom motor is is fast/off motor and is mounted upright -- I guess Leslie's thought was to have a solid "pedal" tone on stop and to also reduce problems with the two-motor shaft sticking due to rough moving...
are you able to adjust the motor speed ups and speed downs, and the slow and fast speed of the motors? because i notice the speed down of the horn is very abrupt. Great demonstration by the way!
But where do you buy the belt?
Hello, Kenneth -- I have good, used original cotton Leslie belts for $30. I like these because I can set them to "slip" and therefore have slower bass rotor start-ups with slower rotor slow-downs; but that's my preference. New "space age" polymer belts are also available from BBOrgan.com. Check it out: www.bborgan.com/products/belt-leslie-speaker-space-age-polymer-upper-lower-set?_pos=6&_sid=2d08e0c88&_ss=r Hope this solves your problem ! - John at John's Hammonds
Hello. If your oil cups are not draining, something must be clogging them - check for debris at the bottom of the cups; you may also need to use extra-long pipe-cleaners to clean the tubes beneath the oiling cups. The Hammond Oil Cups funnel oil via tubes beneath them to other funnels above the Hammond Tone Wheel assembly. Oil is then "wicked" to all the tone wheel bearings by small cotton threads. This takes time and that's why it takes several days after oiling for the tone wheel shaft and bearings to be properly lubricated. It's extremely important to use Hammond Oil for this process. -- John
thanks for this demo. can you tell me the difference, of any, between a 715 and 715C?
Leslies can sometimes be factory wired per organ manufacturer's specifications for specific speaker outputs such as reverb, percussion or special effects. Thus a Leslie-715C might be specially wired for Conn Organs; or, a Leslie-715R might be specific to Rogers Organs. Hope this helps.... John
💪Gracias...
...glad you found this video of interest. - John
I'm having this issue right now with my b3, hopefully this is a fix for me! Thank you for making this video!
Please let me know if this Hammond video helped ! - John
Some I purchased a C2 spring of last year 2022 and powered up great but has been sitting for almost six months not turned on and today 1/16/2023 the run motor failed me and I discovered this video.😢 When bought it was oiled but not smooth and quit. I removed the back panel today 1/16/2023 and the cup above the run motor was over filled so I used some tissue to absorb most it!
This information is appropriate for all Hammond Tonewheel organs with start/run motors including Hammond B3, B2, BV, A100, C3, C2, CV, M3, M2
Any idea where I can find a suitable replacement resistor?

Will the 715 Leslie speaker connect to an old A100 // I have an old organ but the speaker sounds like a tin can , and a Leslie 122 seems impossible to find . Will a 715 work as well concerning the connection?
Yes, the 715 will work, but you'll need a connection kit. The easiest Leslie to connect to the A100 is the 145/147 "universal" Leslie. I'm in the Sacrament, CA, area. Cheers ! - John's Hammonds

@@rothmyers1404 Hello, Roth. I have a functional 1936 SN#610 Hammond Model A in mint condition. Where is your Hammond on display? Amazing instruments !! -- John
What kind of foot pedal is compatible?
11-pin controller; or, any Hammond with an 11-pin outlet.
Nice one, was this modified or stock version of 415. Thanks
Hello. This 415 is stock. I was just demonstrating functionality, and, as you can hear, has pretty good range and clarity after my restorations. I was not attempting to demonstrate superb playing skills -- you can listen to those elsewhere on RUclips. Cheers !
Hi, is the cable a 5-pin or 6-pin? Thanks
This is a modern 11-pin Leslie connection. Plugs directly into modern Hammonds. I've also used it with my B3 using a Trek II Controller.
Leslie did not make the 910 with a two-speed lower motor; the bass rotor comes from the factory with the "on/off" motor only. Perhaps Leslie wanted a stronger bass response. But I agree -- a two-speed lower motor stack would be a good mod. My X-77L Leslie only has the one-speed bass motor, but also comes with the "Space Expander" which creates a good imitation of a slow-spinning bass drum. Cheers !
Interesting comparing these solid state Leslie’s to valve ones. Also their relay’s can vary in pop noise when operated. Should the upper rotor go in an opposite direction the the lower one?
Rubbish demo
Thanks ! Glad you saw the demo ! The purpose was not to demonstrate my skill and ability, but rather sound and functionality of this low-cost, entry-level Leslie. I've been playing and repairing Hammonds and Leslies since the "Monterey Pop Festival" era and I never sell a vintage Leslie without demonstrating functionality -- what you saw was a "witness" test of functionality. Cheers !
What should I expect to pay for this model (used) in great condition ?
Hi what voltage (also Ma ) does this speaker used? thank you for upload!
Hello - this speaker is connected to my Leslie 44W amp. Some call these "70-volt" speakers; I imagine it varies between amps and applications.
@@johnnoxon9632 Thank you!
The BEST of the Solid State Series. The Leslie 760
The slow motor placement on the lower rotor needs adjustment! It doesn’t to make a good contact with the drive wheel!
Hello, Jeremy. Thanks for the comment. The Leslie 910 does not have dual-motor, fast/slow stack. It has the single "fast/stop" motor only. Check the speaker specs. -- John
@@johnnoxon9632 If I was still a young guy to Tote this Leslie around, I would add a Dual Motor Stack to the Bottom for i have seen it done. The 900U Model had a Dual Motor at the bottom. The Leslie 760 was the best Solid State Leslie IMHO. i I hate I sold BOTH Leslies years ago !!!
@@terrencemiller5284 Hello, Terrance. The Leslie 900 series has a very complex device called the "Space Expander" that is supposed to give a "rotating" sound to the bass frequency. Some people disengage the Space Expander (it get power from a belt connected to the horn fast/slow motor) and add a dual speed motor to the bass. It's a simple fix, but Leslie engineered the 900 series with only a slow motor for the bass, so they must have had something in mind !! Yes, I had and sold two 760's -- essentially industrial versions of the 122/147 Leslie. Cheers !
@@johnnoxon9632 John, can you do a Video of just the "Space Expander" Audio ( turn the Horn and Rotor Audio off ) ? It was long ago when I had both the Leslie 910 & 900u in my Procession and really paid no attention to that Space Expander but i would like to hear it !! Thanks
@@johnnoxon9632 I think the " Space Expander" was only for the upper 6x9 Speakers and not the Bottom Rotor. The Bottom Rotor was just "Dry" on Slow Speed. I would choose the 760 over the 910 but the 910 would maybe sound cool for today's Synth if you add Coaxial 6x9's
Sounds great ! in my Opinion, i can't get with that slow down and ramp up times for the Rotosonic. You can hear it and growing up in age with the 122, 147 Leslies of the 60 & 70's, it's not authentic with tradition. I had a Leslie HL 722 ( same as the 715 ) and I would use the Leslie for my Digital Synth set up w/ 2 stereo small Speakers and it sounded beautiful using ONLY the slow speed on the Leslie. The Leslie has a lot of Power which is so cool !!!
Hi, John !!. How you doin over there? Cheers from Santiago, Chile. Thanks so much for this tutorials bout playin a Hammond !! I love Hammond organ.. I'd really love to get one!! Good Luck with this proyect on youtube !! Great job you're doin, dude !! I really enjoy them... Keep on learnin by watchin
Hello, Chris in Chile. There was a time when a great many American warships carried Hammond organs as standard issue for their on-board chapels. Thus many Hammonds could be found far-and-wide and the ships were decommissioned and shipboard items sold off. Still, you might check your port cities for vintage Hammonds. Best of luck to you. -- John
Hey, All. I've been collecting, playing, and gigging Hammonds for the past 50 years. It's time for me to start passing off these amazing instruments to new owners who will keep up the Hammond tradition. So far, I have three Hammonds in studios: Greaseland in San Jose; Tanglewood in Fair Oaks; and, King Tide in Sausalito just down the street from the Record Factory. Yes -- actual sound through Jensen F15LL speaker in Leslie 44W cabinet with Leslie 44W tube amp
very short video,i have 2 15 inch field coils, out of a wurlitzer organ tone cabinet,i was going to sell them,i got the 2 monoblock amps,6420 also.question is is that music playing, comeing out of the field coil speaker! as it might change my mind, regarding selling them??
The speakers are connected to a Leslie 44W amp which provides both A/C to the coil, and signal DCV to the field coil. The jensen F15LL speakers are wonderful.
Ahh yes, jazz, where you can play any random note at any time.
nice vid :) this speaker looks powerful .... love to try one w/ my twin reverb side by side.... w/ a signal spiltter...
Glad you liked the video ! -- I used to use a Twin Reverb with my Leslie -- used one channel for a horn "bleed".
Hey, All -- check out the great "Leslie Effect" highs and mid-range of this speaker !
Hey quick question! Can those mounted speakers that are pointed outwards in the top part of the Leslie be volume adjusted? Just imagining trying to play at a low-medium volume but hearing mostly the stationary speakers and less of the rotating speakers. Maybe that wouldn’t be a problem I’m just not familiar with this tech. Thanks John! Steven from Rocklin
To clarify I’m wondering if It might be necessary and or possible to reduce the volume of those little speakers up top so that I’m not getting too much stationary sound and not enough swooshy Leslie spinning... or are those sending the audio from the rotary units? Thanks again

Leslie should’ve put an option on the Bottom rotor for slow spin
Hey, Terrence -- you're right about this Leslie having just a stock single motor speed (fast/stop) on the bass drum. A Fast/Slow motor could be added easily enough by just wiring to the upper motor stack. However, Leslie may have been looking for the sustained bass sound to clean-up "heavy" chords at the high volume levels this Leslie was designed for...
@@johnnoxon9632 Thanks and yes sir ! Actually some of the Leslie 900s ( I had a 900U ) had 2 speeds for the lower rotor. The 910 replaced the 900 but not the slow speed for the bottom rotor.
Hey, all -- just demonstrating the functions of this restored Hammond C3. In addition Hammonds, I have many Leslies to pair with this instrument. Cheers !
720s are really nice leslies and very underrated. I have a video showing one used with a Hammond CV and its nice.
Hey, Marcus. You're right about the Leslie 720. They are really mis-understood. Even Capt. Foldback left them out of his List of Leslies -- something I hope to change as I've recently sent him video and photos. Cheers !
Hey, Marcus -- you're very right ! The Leslie 720's are excellent speakers but very few people know about them. They're full range with the "helicopter" tweeter, two 6x9s, a spinning 8" midrange like you'd find in a Leslie 16, and a stationary 15" !!! Amazing !!
