1973 Scout II with 258 engine mods
My '73 Scout with a modified 258 6-cylinder.....new 4.0 head, HEI ignition, Comp Cam, Weber 38 DGES carb, Clifford Research water-cooled intake & split headers. Cleaned the valve cover breathers and still had some condensation burping out of the filters. Still trying to figure out what kind of mufflers to put on the dual exhaust ???....Flowmasters??? What series???

Man, that sounds badass.
I got a 1973 scout 2 i6 amc258 also. I love the way i6 runs. But you are right no power. Did you ever check what mods increased hpw. Thx
Nice work! I have a 73 with the AMC 258 also. I'd like to get it to this level eventually. How 'did you power your HEI? just tap into a wire from the ignition switch, or did you use a relay?
Nice jeep 4.0l
I know this is an older video, I would like to know what cam you put in? Also did you do anything to the lower end of the motor? Did you change anything as far as gearing in the differentials?
What did you wind up doing i have a 73 scout ii thinking of putting the clifford on
Is that the stock throttle cable?
Sorry for the delay......no....totally fabbed.....thanks
Was that straight piped? I have a 75 CJ5 with a 232. Similar engine. That was a good sound.
Sorry.....don't get on here much. Yeah, it was open headers ....have since run through Flowmasters. Sounds like a V8 with the split headers.
flowmasters 40 series are fine flowing mufflers...imo!!
agreed !!!
how much horsepower is it pushing bro?
I'd say now around 225-250......BIG improvement over stock !!
Where did you get breathers
That is sweet, I have a 78 traveler that I got for 250.00 . It has a 304 4sp and I want to put my 4.0 ho 6 in it but I can't locate the correct bellhousing for the 258 to scout 2 4sp trans.any idea's as to where to look next?
Do you have any links for the parts you used?
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you...I haven't looked at youtube in a while. All parts were purchased from Clifford Research. They're a pretty easy google....good luck !
What camshaft? I just installed in our 258 a Crower Level 4 278/284 duration crower says it has a definite lope at idle.. We'll see! I got a little bit to before we get to hear run, 83 CJ7 axles up restore! Few more weeks!!
Hey this is the same build I am planning on my 73 AMC Hornet with another anemic 258. What cam did you use? I am rebuilding my craigslist weber 38 right now. Searching for a junkyard 4.0 head. Sounded great!
