How about this for a ruleset: Sub only, no time limit, but, as soon as there's no action for say, a minute (ie both too tired to finish) it's a draw. In a tournament it's a double elimination, which might seem crazy, but if you've fought to the point of exhaustion you're next match is likely to be a wash anyways. For the finals, maybe they get a warning or two, and if they're both too tired, it's a draw. Incentivize getting the sub, and being in shape. Or maybe sub only, and if no sub whoever had more top control. If you're sticking with a points system, how about some points for throws/takedowns, a la Judo/wrestling. In a street fight a throw can be devastating. If you want to go for the entertainment factor, let the crowd choose the winner, the ole applause-o-meter. They can also chant one more round for finals or particularly exciting matches. I don't know, there doesn't seem to be a perfect system, or even a great one. They are all either too subjective or too contrived or too open to sandbagging.

It is tough to get a good system. The first idea makes me think of Antonio Inoki seeing an awful pro wrestling match in Japan, walking out and ordering it to be stopped. Maybe we need a Gordon Ramsay-esque promoter to come out and call off any boring match, then berate both competitors for their inactivity. - Ross

Re: kani basami - I'm one of those "it's not dangerous if you do it right" guys. It's a *scissor* takedown - you're supposed to take out your opponent's near leg, therefore you shouldn't be able to blow out that knee. It's an amazing technique, especially if you attack leg locks. It should be legal and if you do it wrong/maliciously/negligently you get punished, the same way slams can be legal but you're not allowed to spike someone on their head. Cheers

My thoughts hopefully came through during the video - but, to reaffirm, I think ecological training is part of practice and not the whole. I study coaching and training in professional football / soccer, NFL and other elite sports. They all have coaches giving specific instructions. There are walk-throughs, which is basically low or no resistance drilling. Anyway, there's a far deeper discussion to be had on this, but I applaud your open-mindedness and I like to think that's something I have as well. - Ross

Im a carlson gracie student. When we are learning new techniques we dont resist so that we dont build bad habbits and improper form. There is absolutely a time when we do some dialog training and talk out the position just not when learning a brand new technique. Imagine learning a new leg attack system and your partner is constantly giving you issues on just the entry.

I think Levi did incredible and I agree that guard players could begin to become the meta, but I personally believe that at the highest level being on top is always better. Ever since leg-locks were introduced, the bottom player no longer had to play the counter-attacker looking for openings to sweep or reverse. But I still think that the top player has the advantage because its easier for them to engage and disengage, and they can use their body weight against their opponent, which the bottom player has to constantly be fighting against. They essentially dictate when the fight starts and can exit (most of the time) whenever they want.

You just removed all meaning of your list!! Take this as positive criticism, if you want to make a tier list, and stack everyone in "S" and then put a few in "A" that's not just lazy, but also boring. Multiple time ADCC champion. 3. Pena: Achievement as multiple time ADCC champion. Also he has 2 wins against Gordon. Massive feat considering Gordon hasn’t lost since. 4. Meregali: Based on strength of schedule and dominance in his victories. 5. Nicky Rod: I don’t mind Nicky in the 4th spot. The guy just knows how to compete. Not just Kade, but not a single person in the whole tournament. He’s starting to look like 2019 Levi again

He's really high A for us, along with guys like Dante and Andrew Tackett. We're just waiting for them to win a big one like ADCC/CJI or IBJJF gi Worlds.
