Lowes backs up installer of Glass block 2
Просмотров 43 тыс.9 лет назад
Lowes approved installer's work and offers no real solution. Windows were supported by wood blocks on each end then spray foam filled the void. A thin veneer of mortar was added around the edges.

Lowes Manager approves of this install, tells WWII Vet to buzz off.
HACK ARTISTS...The blocks should have been better sized for the R/O. Otherwise, mortar in a solid mortar bed under the block. There's all kinds of F 'ed up going on here!!! LMAO
The rough cut opening needed to be sized to the block window WITH green wood and the proper tar tape window flashing 1 inch in from the outside and down the front face of the outside wood. . Also between the green wood and the concrete should be sealed with liberal amounts urethane sealer. I like to add 3 deck screws in all the 4 boards so the window just slides in and when you pack the mortar with a tuck point knife it seals the window in but for the worse kickout scenario. The screw heads hold to the mortar you just packed in.
Glass block companies are in every city / state and are doing it every single day so this would never happen . Who on earth would use big box who sub it out. And then the subs hand off the job to a flunky they are giving 15 cash an hour to . Very typical of shady contractors . They literally use homeless on many jobs that they go find under viaducts ( usually for labor only though like mixing cement or filling buckets when tons cement is needed ) . Or go to Home Depot parking lots in early morning for day laborers looking to work all day for a hundred bucks. Problem is they say they can do any and all jobs even if they never tackled it in they life .
Horrendous job just awful in every way . But typical as big box has the money to face any lawsuit . They use subs who make low wage and most of the subs has someone they paying 15 dollars cash an hour actually doing the work . If they are not inexperienced bad handymen they are thieves casing your home for future break ins . And or stealing stuff without ya realizing it when they are in or around the home.
Probably should have framed it out more with treated lumber. Then use glass block mortar and silicone.
Sounds like Paul at Lowes is a lier or stupid. I’m a home owner who installed glass block windows myself and I would be ashamed if I did such a poor job.
Add 2” solid concrete block to bottom. Reinstall window.
Wow… that’s horrible.
Time to get lawyer
THEY USED WAY TO MUCH MORTAR AND THOSE WINDOWS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED!!!
Shitty install job but in the case of mortar shrinking is normal. Mix new mortar to a consistency of a milk shake and paint it onto the mortar and that will clean up the cracking.
Yeah, right. Just patch over the problem and call it a day. That installation needs to be completely redone correctly.
I have been thinking of doing our basement windows. I would not put windows with that much of a gap in my openings. And I would not use the foam. Only good cement mortar. This seems like a hurry up job to me. Quick but NOT long lasting at all.
Sadly not the first Lowes contractor job gone wrong. A friend of mine had a bathroom done by Lowes subcontractors and 8k and months later sadly its still not right but Lowes simply stood behind their sub, they didnt even offer an apology. I think they hope people will just live with the problems. Because a law suit is complicated and at the end of the day what is best practice and what is legally acceptable practice is a debatable thing. In other words a poorly completed job is still a completed job, unfortunately. The real lesson is know your subcontractor, get references, get a warranty or guarantee of satisfaction make sure hes bonded licensed and insured. Then stick with that guy if he does good work and if hes good pay him really well so he always does good work for you. As a carpenter I feel bad for you.
I have an appt with Lowe’s tomorrow! Damn.
Those guys were not brick masons and had no idea what they are doing.
Thats awful...Im surprised at Lowes...call Corporate!!
It this a parody? Lol wow
I've seen better craigslist jobs
Sorry this happened to you. I want to live vicariously through you and never use Lowe's. Would rather buy the windows I have a contract to put them in for me. The contract is it I knew and trusted.
I’m actually a lowes doors installer in Alabama, I use to do windows with them. I don’t understand why they didn’t wood frame the opening and install replacement windows OR just order a window to fit the opening and screw it into the mortar joints.
Anybody can kick that window in. Wtf. They should have framed it out with a would sash
Manufacturer will okay gap of up to inch , but not the spray foam. Gap should be completely filled with high strength glass block mortar.
So where can you get one at?
It this moment none are available. How ever another production run will start up in a couple of months or less. I think the push will be for 40" with 6 1/2' to follow. What size are you looking for??? Or what will you use it for.
Glenn Bentley I'm looking for the 6 1/2. How much were they on the last run?
Glenn Bentley oh yeah I'll be using it for race car bodies. You can email me at patrickgold80@hotmail.com
Not available at this time. Company retooling. Should be soon from what I hear.
thats a shit install with a shit silicone panel. Mortar is not recommended to be installed that thick. 3/4 inch max.... The panel needs to fit the opening. If the panel would have had 3/8 inch joints it would have fit the rough opening and no need for 1.5 inch joints.
The sad thing about this was Lowe's not wishing to correct their mistake, and standing behind the installer's sub par work.
Glenn, I would like to find out more information on this 6 foot brake. I'm in St. ouis, so could you please text or call me at 314-753-0176. Best Regards, Mike.
Nick it was nice talking with you about this Glass Block install job. You confirmed what I already knew. This was a very unprofessional job
Tim I know you'll be pleased with your sheet Metal Brake, let me know how it works out for you. I inspected a 30" Sheet Metal brake Bend O Mate got in and it was sold within hours. From what I have seen on the market, you can't get a better brake in this class for double the money.
Glenn I too am interested in the brakes, my cousin Greg came from Missouri and bought one of these from some one in Springfield. Fan you call or text me @ 573-880-2041? Thanks!
I bet this is not the only time windows have been installed like this.
Nick I looking forward to your views on the windows. I welcome views from the trades on this install.
Gary I enjoyed talking with you and passed your info on. I got a quick look at the next brakes. Look for removable legs and cap. They are working on getting 6 1/2ft brakes in too.
glen were can I buy the bend o mate,,u could text me with info 606-260-9855 gary or e-mail ground05pipe@yahoo.com
Call Nick at Lyons Glass Block ...
The windows ended up being free. The credit card bank gave us our money back after two contractors and the company that made the windows said they were wrong size and not installed per specs.
@@glennbentley8603 Free or not free. They should be reinstalled correctly. Someone can easily kick that whole assembly into the basement. Nothing is holding it in place except some weak spray foam. No reinforcement, no channel, no anchors. And it will continue to crack.
