Grandissima vittoria, grandissimo campione!
Love this era in cycling Thank you for posting
I know this documentry is almost "Spinal tap "like and when I first saw It I was half expecting it to be a spoof as I watched It But the truth Is these pilots were REAL stick and rudder aviators who knew hiw to hand fly an aircraft , they didnt learn in a simullator and rely on auto- pilot to fly the plane for them, and they have to fly in extreme weather conditions I think compared to some of the pilots today from our advanced technological age who have far far less l REAL hands on flying experience and do more computer programming than anything else I'd rather put my eggs in the basket of of one these guys even after he's had half a dozen shots of Vodka If the auto pilot shut down in an emeregencycy and they had to hand fly the plane and land it than a fully sober modern pilot a few years into the job
Transcendent day for the Tour, even when there had been so many incredible moments in the past.
What was it that fignon said in his autobiography-----he wanted to see only himself in the photo at the finish asapose to 88 when he beat fondriest in a two up sprint-----😊.
The audio quality on this video is very good. I’ve seen this video posted by others on this platform and this is by far the best audio quality. Thank you for posting!
Μιλανεζικο ιντεγκραλε
Jeez, you have to say Greg looked damn fucking smooth on that time trial bike!
Saddle heights were just something different back then😳
The TDF is incredible
A brilliant `Rangey` rider French with it!! A Class act RIP
Excellent work on the transitions
Epic year
3:22 Huh?
Epic day for Lemond and Indurain
Fascinating film this. I first watched it when it aired back in 1995/96 and watched again tonight when it came back in to my mind. I’m sure many of the participants are no longer with us, particularly the pilots but I do wonder where the others are now and what they are doing.
Lemond needs to thank Rooks exceedingly.
Oh what a wonderful video. I just adore the movie. Got chills just watching this. Always longed to go to Ireland but this took me there to the locations of the movie. Thank you so much. Lovely video😊
This was the key day for Lemond where he took the most time out of Ciapucci. At stage 2 Ciapucci was around 10 mins ahead of Lemond.
21:55 - Gee Lemond - “I think I can beat Cappucino” :)))))
Finding this video was truly a blessing. The then and now was sensational. God Bless all who made this possible!
After the collapse of Soviet Union I made regular trips to Russia and other republics between 1992 and 2003...If you didn't have to it was definitely a place that you didn't want to be in...People were depressed nobody was smiling due to economy and country's over all state of course... food wasn't good at all everything tasted bland that was a whole different issue on it's own...And of course air travel... None of the interviewers exaggerate what they've experienced in this video because I have experienced the similar things myself...it was tragic, concerning and you couldn't help but laugh also
When the railroad stopped running?

Last era of steel
great recap. Worst music ever. 😕
thank you for sharing this I watched this coverage in 87 as a 16 year old. fortunately I recorded it as well. I would say I haven't watched this since 88. merci
Alfisti persempre. 🍀
Sensacional, nada eletrônico, sem clip, sem capacete. Raiz.
Imagine if Lemond never got shot? And always had a team that supported him completely? At least 6 tours, without a doubt..
I miss the Soviet aircrafts a lot. My dad used the Aeroflot pilot from 1967 to 1997. He flew AN-2, YAK-12, AN-24, AN-26, IL-18 and TU-154.
Lemond is the best American cyclist of all time.
I was just watching this and noticing the Russian Pilots commentary being translated into subtitles starting at 4:47 describing how Russian pilots and aviation where being pulled in many different directions. Also how the airline previously focused mainly on pilot training and airline safety and right at 4:58 "But now we are told that business is all that counts" and years past that the airlines and their safety standards dropped dramatically. Here in the US in 2024 I cant help but notice a similar pattern with some airlines (notably Boeing being one) where safety was sacrified over business priority and pilot training over DEI and now Boeing once the flagship of quality and safety has been taken over by buisiness politicans and bean counters and as of lately their planes are starting to fall apart and their stock is slipping . The saying used to be "if it not a Boeing I'm not going !" is now has a different meaning .
Jesus. A two hour TT!!!!!!
He ain’t 30 percent stronger. BS
that green railway walkover bridge in ballygluin (castle town) is the same bridge in ballinasloe train station but painted gray
PDM Super team of doping ... already
Get the fucking motorcycles out the way
lemond had a terrible team that year
wondering IF fignon would have had just ONE aero wheel instead of two...he might have won??
can't help but think his long, helmetless ponytail cost him the most time
This may not advance knowledge of the cottage’s demise but a Cong local - with whom I had a pleasant business dealing 2 years ago - told me he owned the “cottage” that was used in the filming of “The Quiet Man”. I didn’t inquire of him as to whether it was still on the “tourist trail” - or ever had been so - my understanding - from someone else - is that it had been open to visits at one stage. If anyone who’s watching this video and lives in Cong - and happens to know the man I’m referring to (obviously it’s not info I could give out over social media) - it would be great if this video was brought to the man’s attention; possibly lovers of this movie would be greatly interested to hear briefly about the cottage’s history in more recent years.
Never seen this film, but the merges of old and new darn near brought a tear to my eyes.
Fig Newton is not invincaable
Now I understand why Paul K quit cycling. If I had his results I would have quit too
wow..i never knew that jeff pierce won anything like that...pretty impressive but the u.s. press did not give him any coverage on that...
I was born and raised not that far from Cong and attended Dances in Cong as a Teenager ~ ~ Great to see all of these places ~ ~ Great Comedy Film of its time.
you go Italy or go sweeden,i drive a saab turbo !
Delgado slapstick
It's 35 years since I last saw this! I was cheering for Fignon that year. Gutted!
I have Scottish ancestry but, this movie tugs at my heart strings and is one of my favorites. Can’t believe the cottage has deteriorated so badly in 70 years.
