My NEW FIXED GEAR BIKE has a DISC BRAKE 😬
Brake on a fixie. Is that a thing?
Well, in my case yes. I don't care about OG stuff and street cred or even less about fixie points :) (sorry Zachy)
Let me show you a rather unique fixed gear bike : a Massacan Fissa. Alloy, made in Italy by a french brand, and disc brake.
Oh! Did I say you can fit 33c tyres? And it has 2 bottles cages ? Or it's made of Dedacciai Fire Competition Light tubing?

Today I am having my first ride with my home made Chinese wheels on my fixed gear bike. It's the first time I've made a pair of wheels so I tried with cheap parts: Ardently Fixed gear hubset: 50€ Carbon Chinese rims (50mm UD matt with brake surface): 260€ Sapim rainbow spokes: 77€ So far, so good :) Really enjoying my Darkside Mannheim now.

    I didn't know you could fit an 11-speed chain on 3/32" (8 speed) chainrings. Usually 11 speed is 11/128". I know velobike makes 11/128 stuff (this is what I run on my track racing bike). Love the disk brake for a street fixed gear.

    • @victorfixienerd
      @victorfixienerd 3 дня назад

      So, I was as surprised as you honestly…. And confused. Kronos is advertising them as 3/32” but I haven’t measured them. I guess tolerances permits such a setup.

  • @凸Bebo凸
    @凸Bebo凸 3 дня назад

    Nice build, haven't seen a 3/32 chain Sugino 75 build before. If you want a really quiet chain, the black teflon coated 3/32 Crupi BMX chain is super quiet with wax. It's the YBN single speed chain, really quiet on wax because of the teflon coating making the side plates and outer pins quieter. Should save you some cash over using expensive 11 speed chains, quieter too.

    • @victorfixienerd
      @victorfixienerd 3 дня назад

      Thanks a lot for this! Super interesting nerd stuff 😎😎 I actually chose the Wipperman chain as it’s one of the good ones with wax. But I will dig into what you just shared for sure 👌 On my other track bike I am having the dura ace 11s chain waxed also. Apparently this chain is the best in terms of performance (velobike did some measurements).

    • @凸Bebo凸
      @凸Bebo凸 3 дня назад

      @victorfixienerd If you look on friction facts the ybn chain has a special coating that holds onto lubricant better, it's still patented so Shimano and kmc and wipperman don't have this coating yet. They trickled this tech down to the single speed chain line too. Wax is so much quieter on ybn chains, only 15 dollars with 1300 Newton meters tensile strength too.

    Where's the link for the chain tensioner?

  • @drmitofit2673
    @drmitofit2673 2 месяца назад

    If your chain has a tight spot at a specific crank arm position, I have a solution. Turn your drive crank arm to the tight spot, partially loosen all of the chainring bolts, squeeze the top and bottom chain runs together with a gloved hand, and simultaneously retighten the chainring bolts with your other hand. This slightly shifts the chainring back, creating a little slack at the tight spot. This also reduces loose spots and allows overall less driveline slack, so more even wearing, smoother pedaling, and less likely for the chain to fall off from being too loose.

      100% true 👌 Honestly forgot this as I am always doing the tension on the tight spot of the chain 😅

  • @benc8386
    @benc8386 3 месяца назад

    I just put my thumbs on the ends of the dropouts, fingers around the ends of the axle, and push/pull, centre between chainstays, and then finger tighten both nuts at the same time. Then carefully tighten with the wrench alternating sides at first (or just use two if at home). Pulling basically as hard as you can in that awkward position seems to give a pretty good tension and this method is very quick.

    Victor, so you can go up to 40s and you can't? I mean the dropouts are part of the equation. So the room in the frame doesn't really matter, if you can't get the wheel mounted, right? I heard that it takes up to 38s, but does it? Are there other frames/bikes that take 40s?

    • @victorfixienerd
      @victorfixienerd 4 месяца назад

      Hey, so, you can go up to 40. But it comes with compromises. You then have limited movement in the dropouts so you need to find the good ratio and good chain length. 38 is ok but again a bit of compromises. 35 is perfect on the steamroller.

    Great video! I don't know if my method is a magic trick or a terrible hack. I sit behind the bike and use two wrenches at the same time. I pull the wheel as far back as I can, and start tightening both nuts at the same time, while making sure that the wheel stays straight. The chain sometimes ends up slightly more loose than I wish. Then I try again, pulling the wheel back with a bit more force. I should probably try your method :D

    The most important part is to find the tightest spot before tensioning. Without that, all your work is pointless. The tension will change through the rotation no matter how expensive your drivetrain is. Looks like you spend a lot of effort on this video but in my opinion it is bad information to be giving to someone that is trying to learn new skills.
