Great job on this! I’ve built this model three times: First in 1971, then again either in 1999 or 2000, and finally 2023, each one looking better than the last. Did your kit not come with the little trees and lizards?

I had them all as a kid in the 70s, and I’ve built/painted most of the reissues since. I bought my first Aurora monster kits (Godzilla and King Kong) at a K&B Drugstore here in New Orleans back in 1971. Then, there were the Monster Scenes series and the Prehistoric Scenes series, which were also fun! I wrote an article for Scary Monsters magazine called BE A MODEL CITIZEN, basically a tutorial about building and painting monster models.

The front suspension has always been a problem on this kit. It sits back too far and the posable steering only makes it look worse. The fender to hood alignment isn't positive on any of these '51 Chevrolet AMT kits (Belair, Fleetline, Convertible). The hood corners are incorrect / missing and the rear bumper on the 1:1 car are tucked into cut-outs in the rear quarter. Your build doesn't look bad considering that, in my opinion, these '51 Chevrolet kits weren't very well thought through by AMT. Good job!

Came here hoping to figure out what they were trying to accomplish with their upside instructions, but you ran into the same issues I have with this kit. Nothing fits well. There are no concise instructions for mounting the engine, the engine compartment is just a guess where each piece goes. I've built models since 1964 and this kit was the worst.

It looks ok though as I think the paint job sells it… other builders did a much better job but I don’t do much after market work…I’m old school out of the box. I built 10 of these when I was a kid in the 1960's. They suffered a lot of abuse and mishaps, and stayed in my mother's basement until she sold them in a garage sale. Videos like this make me think back and realize how many models I built during that time - so many. The Monsters, Monster Hot Rods, Weirdos, Hot Rods and Dragsters, Deal's Wheels, Apollo LEM, Star Trek Enterprise, 2001 Moon Bus. Amazing I didn't get brain damage from all that glue and paint thinner.

Most of the kits you have mentioned are now being re-released most from original molds. I encourage you to do them again. Many lost kits are being recreated by the magicians with these amazing 3-D printers. This is the best time to embrace the hobby and introduce it to young people. I still get a thrill when I complete a model and I enjoy the many positive comments I get from my videos. I see so many builders far better than me but always supportive with useful building ideas . I still have kits I hope to find and build again that I built when I was a kid.

In the last year, I've returned to the models of my childhood. And those are those wonderful Aurora Models. I've collected them over the years and saved them for my retirement. I'm beginning with the monster rods. I've completed The Wolfman's Wagon. I wish I could show you a picture. It turned out nice. At present, I'm working on Frankenstein's Flivver. The car is done, and I'll soon be done with the Monster. Then it's on to The Mummy's Chariot. I also have the other three. Dracula's Dragster, King Kong's Thronester, caping that series off with Godzilla's Go Cart. The Creature from the Black Lagoon was left out, for some reason. I sure am enjoying these.
