The purpose of this RUclips channel is for networking and sharing content with other artist and musicians that are looking for a bassist and or that I plan on working with soon. I enjoy performing live, but I love working in the recording studio even more. I enjoy creating something that wasn’t there before and helping an artist to bring their vision to life. Being a session musician allows me to work with a very wide set of artists of all genres from all over the world. I have many bass tracking sessions thru-out the year and will try to post at least one sample of each session every Thursday at noon. Hope you enjoy the tracks as much as I enjoyed creating them.

Crazy little thing called love. Bass play-along.

A tribute to John Deacon. "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". I was 10 years old when I first heard Queen. I spent another two years trying to figure out who the band was. A store clerk helped me figure it out when I sang to him "Mama Mia let me go!". He said OH! Queen! I bought a few of their albums on the spot and have been hooked ever since.
Bass Tracking with the Mercury 66 Limiting Amplifier #2

I recently acquired an early model Mercury 66 Compressor Limiter. I replaced all the tubes with a matched set from David at Mercury. This is the second sound test with my bass. Mike Porcaro the bassist from Toto played on the iconic "MacArthur Park" and "Heaven Knows" by Donna Summer. I spent the evening learning this 18-minute track for an upcoming show. I am playing through the Mercury Studio Limiting Amplifier.

Amazing sound, look, and instrumental accompaniment. Love it. !!! ❤
Thank you!!
Great funky sound!
Thanks for listening
They are incredible!
Thank you!
Love it. Brings back so many good memories. Well done. 👍
Perfection! Thank you!!
nice video... but that's an Avedis MA5, not an API preamp
I'm aware of that now.
They sound amazing 🤩 brings back good memories!
Thank you!
Pro tip: bass guitar into a DBX 560 then into the IGS One LA. You will thank me later.
Nice! Thanks for the tip!
@@ManCaveStudio Also try vocals into the Serpent on blue channel them into One LA in limit mode. That One LA is sleeper just have to put something in front of it to get its full potential
Bass sounds great on IGS.
I came to check out the gears.. Stayed for that groove! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Qué equipo mas sofisticado y por supuesto suena muy bien. Yo tengo un equipo de la misma marca y pues, un tanto más pequeño pero suena bonito. Muy buena marca . Felicitaciones!! Disfrútalo
Gracias!
That's so good.
Thank you!
Very Helpful! Thank You!!
God. B❤
Surprised you weren't digging the IGS. I absolutely love it on vocals after 1176. Horses for courses I spose.
I am only using these modules for bass. I am sure I would have come to a different conclusion if I were using these for vocals.
@@ManCaveStudioAh yes, I'd forgotten about the application. I've been having superb results on bass with a Pete's Place BAC500 for shaving peaks, but am considering running that in series with something smooth on the end - a Retro Doublewide or a Serpent Chimera perhaps.
@@AntisocialMediaMike I've heard great things about the Pete's Place compressor.
@@ManCaveStudio It's a beauty. Would like to swap it out for my 76 on vocals in front of the IGS 1LA but it's just so useful on bass that I haven't had the heart to do it. Really liking the look of your Wes Audio RHEA! I dunno man, so many boxes and so little time!😀
Loved the riffs and the bass walk! Keep up!
Thank you!
Does the tg opto work ok in the r10?
I haven't had any issues however someone did mention to me that there was a noise issue with the TG. If I crank the gain on my mixer the noise floor on the TG is not as quiet as my other compressors. I need to contact Chandler to see if there has been any updates on this.
Love that song!
It sounds horrible. I hope you have adjusted the VTL, azimuth and overhang. VTL is very touchy on that particular stylus. As matter of fact, 2mm off on the tonearm pivot height is quite audible especially on the high end. It takes several hours to calibrate by trial and errors. Good luck.
Not sure what my phone video compression and RUclips compression algorithms are doing to the sonics but in person it sounds good to my ears. And I spent a lot of time calibrating that cartridge.
One of my favorites. A lot of music I like is melancholic???
🔥🔥🔥
Hi! Is that R10 rack well powered?
There is a meter letting you know if you are reaching it's power limit. So far I have never reached max power usage.
@@ManCaveStudio Even with the One La?
@@preciseaudioblog The One LA did not make the cut when I reviewed all the compressors so it didn't spend much time in the R10. All I can say is in the short time the One LA lived in the R10 there were zero power issues.
@@ManCaveStudio Good to know the 10 is reliable. Thank you 👍
Love the sound, I keep coming back. How you compared the Retro Intruments Double wide II if not what do you think?
Thank you for the compliment. I have only compared the double wide to a bunch of other 500 series compressors. But not to my 19” Gates Retro Sta-level “yet”
Hi! Do you think that a 500 series module sacrifices sonics versus a rack mount unit, for a example a compressor?
I have only done a direct comparison with the BAE 500 series and the rack version and I could tell no difference. At some point, I will compare the others. However I am coming from the mindset of portability, And this 500 series beats the standalone DI and portable pedal setup I was using prior.
@@ManCaveStudio I’m absolutely with you on that... the portability of 500 series is fenomenal... but I wouldn’t like to lose fidelity, if the case
& HERE IT IS, CREAT 1'S OWN WORLD & SIMPLY FUCK EVERYBODY WLSE
Великолепно!!!
Do you like this setup better the the 500 series rig you have in your other video?
Before the 500 series I would lug high end stand alone direct boxes and pedals to recording sessions. One day I decided to try the 500 series against my high end stand alone DI's and the 500 series was much much better. So for a portable solution the 500 series is as good as it gets. As far as the BAE "Neve" going into the Mercury 66 goes. The 500 Series Bae is just as good as the rack version however the Mercury 66 compressor is a 40lb 8 tube beast. The 66 sound has a lot of weight. I think trying to fit all of that into a 500 series module would be impossible. Maybe someone will try someday. In short the 500 series compressors sound amazing but the 66 is in a different league with a lot more weight to its sound.
@ManCaveStudio Thanks for the reply. I am not familiar with the 66 compressor, both rigs sound great. I enjoy your work and having been building up a home studio with my 4001 being my bass of choice and looking for that clean dirty mix. I really like the tones you are getting in both rigs.
Thank you!@@michaelcurnutt
Amazing 🔥 his music is so timeless.
Thank you!
If you had to pick the Retro or Chandler, which one would you choose? I'm going back and forth between the two.
The Retro is tube and the Chandler is solid state. Both sound different. Apples and Oranges. I think the low-end extension on the Chandler is deeper hence why I chose it for the channel focused on that spectrum however the Retro has that tube-based sound and I chose it for my dirty channel. They both complement each other.
Thanks! Musictech said that the TG Opto ate some of the low end. I guess they're not accurate in their reviews. Others have liked the TG Opto for bass. @@ManCaveStudio
Is this a playback that you recorded from your CA streamer? Sounds awesome
Its a playback I recorded from CD to Reel to Reel.
the MA5 is def not an api preamp
I may have been mislead on that comment.
Is the chandler compatible with the Neve R6 . I’ve heard a lot of issue , like hum and high noise floor.. Does it work for you?
There is a higher noise floor and I've been meaning to address this with Chandler. I had no idea that this was a common issue. I will say that it's hardly noticeable when I'm tracking bass but it is there if you crank the gain and listen closely when not playing.
I know this is unrelated but very nice drum sounds! Am interested to know your drum processing chain if there's any. Also nice bass tones!
The drums came from a pre-recorded drum sample pack. :)
This is awesome. Dumb question but do they sell reel to reel or do you have to make your own recordings thanks great video once again
Thank you for the compliment. To answer your question, I usually buy blank ATR Magnetics reels and make my own mixes.
@ManCaveStudio gotcha Thank you so much for getting back to me I really appreciate it 🙂👍👍
One more question @ManCaveStudio when you record your own tapes do they come out in stereo or not because I've read they only record in mono or one channel. Thanks again.
@@Anth4044 Yes all tapes come out in stereo. It's no different than any other tape deck except with much bigger reels.
@ManCaveStudio Thank you for getting back to me I really appreciate that answer ya I must have read a wrong thread but you certainly answered what I was hoping to hear Thank you again 👍👍🙂

Hell ya, love this song; and that bass sounds awesome!
Thank you!
Super clean! Love it!!!
Thanks, brother!
😮impressive …..
Good lord...that sounds amazing!!!
Thanks!
Which IGS compressor did not make the cut to this finalist list?
The One LA 500. At least for bass it did not sound as good as the others to my ears.
OMG 😍
