Why water and a few days of blackout post-harvest? Does it make clean-up easier somehow?
The ones I watered had just been unstacked and were in the germination phase. They weren't the ones I had just harvested.
@@woodstinyfarm ohhhhh! Thanks for clarifying :)
Good working mam
thank you soo much as well!!!! answer to prayer thanks so much
Do you soak seeds in hydrogen peroxide?
No, I just soak my pea and sunflower seeds in water to help with germination.
@ Soaking seeds in hydrogen peroxide can be a beneficial process to improve germination rates and protect against fungal diseases.
Thank you for sharing!
Maybe you need a partner or a regular employee. Someone who understands microgreens so you can take turns growing them during your vacations.
I think you are right about automation. In farming there are countless details that require attention and, when necessary, some intervention. Furthermore, automating will considerably increase your investment, so you will have to increase your operation to increase your ROI.
Can you freeze the dough?
Yes, you can. I make a lot of these and leave them in the freezer for easier pizza days!
do you run a humidifier in your grow room??? do your blackout trays have holes in them??
I do run a dehumidifier at times, but it's fairly dry in MT, so I don't need it all the time. And yes, the blackout trays in this video do have holes. I have stopped using blackout trays and just shut my blackout blinds during that time period.
❤🙏👍
What is the metal plate you put the pizza on in the oven?
It's a ceramic pizza stone.
Thanks for sharing
People say hydroponic grown microgreen gives less quality n thinner microgreen ist true ?
I've found that they taste the same and are very similar to those grown in dirt. I get less yield per tray, but that is because I use less seeds hydroponically. I do have to use a mineral solution in the water to help with growth, but overall, there aren't many differences (from what I've observed) quality wise.
Great video
Love all your content. Got a few tips from your videos. Thanks! Ordered from your links. Finally starting my microgreen adventure.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing with us. 👍
Do you leave the leftover debris in your yard or feed it to the chickens?
Sometimes I take a little out to the chickens, but not always. The deer usually find it at night in the yard, especially this time of year when there is little to eat!
Would love more micro green videos please🙏🙏 here from south Africa and would love to also start growing and selling micro greens
I just posted another video on harvesting and clean up! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this very engaging video. Really enjoyed it!
Great video Thanks!
Thx for you frank explanations on your thoughts about microgreens. I never thot about the “ball and chain” commitment as a business. I may start small just for me and see how it goes.
Amazing!!💚💚💚💚 Thank you so much for sharing all this valuable info. Can you please share with us the "wheight" part. I’m a little confused, I do not know how to weigh. the 1.5oz and 3oz corresponds to the weight of microgreens or the weight of seeds?
The weights I am talking about here are the weight of the microgreens that I pack into each container.
Have you grown the microgreens on silicon mesh on a tray with slits instead of the plastic mesh tray?
Yes, I used to, and I was noticing poor germination. The slits weren't allowing enough water to come up in certain spots, so I decided to switch to the black mesh.
Would love your sandwich bread recipe!
I share my bread recipe in this video... ruclips.net/video/gUN81uMvt-c/видео.htmlsi=AluJpfUaVTntNo91
Great content, Marissa. Thank you for sharing your experience. I really appreciate it. You have inspired me to try hydroponic microgreens. 🙂 👍
It really is an easier, more cost-effective way to grow!
Why do you use weights on top of the trays?
Weight presses the seeds down and helps with germination. Almost like the weight of dirt on a seed that promotes it to sprout. It also holds the moisture in.
@ thank you
I’m here for the microgreens info.😊 I appreciate your transparency in mentioning the “ball and chain” aspect of the business. Have you considered automated watering? I see some growers incorporate that. Some are quite simple with a pump on a timer while others are more complex. I would like to know if you have checked on that and what your opinion is. Great, down-to-earth videos. Thank you for your time in creating this content. Filming and editing can be very time consuming.
I have heard that sometimes the automatic watering can be a pain. There are times when I don't even water a tray on a certain day because it still has water from the previous day. It's cases like this that I would be worried my trays would be overwatered. I haven't really looked into it too heavily, but maybe I should!
Although I'm pretty sure I found your channel from a microgreen video, I'd be interested in all the content suggestions you made.
Thanks for the input!
To be honest, I'm here for microgreens. Thanks for being transparent.
Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks so much for the video! I just started growing Microgreens in the basement for fun and they're delicious. Maybe I'll try doing a business here in NJ when I retire some day : ) They do need a lot of attention! Great video!!! Thank you!
Could you provide a link for that kitchen scale?

Amazing video!!! Can you talk about how you got clients? And where do you sell to? Thank you!
Just released a new video today, and I addressed this question... ruclips.net/video/ZyQVbSSRk1M/видео.htmlsi=VpN8ySWksw9fSm-v
Thanks for offering to answer our questions in advanced. I am going to start a micro greens business soon, and want to know if it is still profitable in 2024? Seems to me that I possibly might be coming at the wrong time, and the market might be saturated?
It really depends on your area and if you already have a lot of microgreen sellers. I knew my local grocery store was not selling them at the time I approached them, so I got in at the right time! You will just have to do a little research and maybe some networking in your area. On another note...I love your handle @justlovejesus1 :)
@@woodstinyfarm Thanks for your suggestions. And yes I love my handle as well :) I didn't come up with it :)
Hi,can you tell me why u r not growing in the soil. Do we need to turn on the lights 24 hrs daily?
The process of growing hydroponically is a lot cheaper. There is nothing wrong with growing in dirt, but the cost of dirt for me was about $1 a tray. Plus, storage of it took up a lot of room. So I was spending about $80 a month on just dirt alone. Right now I use the reusable mesh and the ocean solution minerals. The ocean solution cost me around $2 a week and it's just in a gallon jug I have to store instead of large bales of dirt! I have my lights on for 18 hours a day after their blackout phase.
Right b4 u said the asmr video i was thinking man if i grew on the mesh ones i wld totally make videos of it being cleaned its so satisfying hahahahaha
😆😆😆
NICE ❤❤
Very honest video. I just started growing microgreens for my own consumption. Very helpful for beginners like me. Thanks for sharing.

I agree!!! Thanks.
Nice! Which spectrum lights are used?

Anyone from Canada? I have a basic question on trays. You used two trays. And a mesh. Both shallow. One without holes. What about the other one. Is it mesh tray. Or just with holes tray and then you added a mesh on it. And thanks for the detailed information.
Sorry for the late response! Here is a link to the microgreen products I use. I am using two 10x20 trays. One without holes on the bottom and a mesh tray on top of that. Then I use a reusable silicone grow medium on top of that! sites.google.com/view/woodstinyfarmshop/microgreen-products?authuser=0
Do you have a link for commission to where to buy the exact trays? Thank you for your info I am so excited to get started growing for my family. We are so scared of listeria breakouts and want to start our own food growing

@@woodstinyfarm what are the cute color trays you had? and i saw on the grow media website you linked they have a silicone or steel grow media? which one would you recommend?
@@woodstinyfarm also, would you suggest a few seeds to start with? i checked the website you recommended for seed but its kind of overwhelming! thank you
My Zojirushi will be here tomorrow!💃💃
How did you get the grocery store to buy your product?
I knew one of the store managers and I brought in samples and spoke with the produce manager.
Thank you so much for this video. I am wondering if you would be willing to share your business model? How much profit do you make on 20 trays? Also what type of licensing does one have to get?
You would need to check with your state on their licensing requirements for produce. In Montana, they do not require a license unless you sell 25k or more annually. As far as my income, I only have one grocery store client and do 20 trays a week. I'm averaging around 500 profit a month. I'm deciding to not take on more clients at the moment and just work with this one account for now.
@@woodstinyfarm thank you!
Great video Marissa, love the no frills natural approach, it benefits you greatly, have subbed as I’m not new to sprouting but I am new to Microgreens.

Forgive me if someone already asked, but what is the reason why you use barcodes? I think you are the first microgreens farmer I've seen mention that, and I'm still in my setup phase so I'm trying to absorb all the knowledge I can.
I sell at a large grocery chain that requires barcodes.
HEY AWESOME VIDEO...Very informative...question....did you find it hard to get clients at first? And how much did it cost yoou to get started for 2 full racks?
Thank you! I only have one grocery store client and it's because I knew one of the store managers! I don't have all the startup numbers handy, but I think it was around 5k worth of supplies, and other business expenses.
Thank you so much for these videos. I've been trying at home and had some questions on this video if that's ok: - Do you turn off the lights at some point during the day after they are out of blackout? - Did you have to get a permit to grow and sell microgreens? - Is it necessary to say “wash before eating” since its a clean hydroponic grow? - In terms of the “sell by” label, do you have a standard number of days for each type of grow or is it a general date? What’s the usuall lengh you use?
Thank you for the comment! - Yes, I turn off lights for 6 hours a day, so my light cycle is 18 hours on and 6 hours off. I have a light timer for this. - I do not have to get a permit to grow because my annual sales are less than 25k a year. You will have to check with your state on their produce rules. -I don't think I have to put that disclaimer "wash before eating" on my product, but I had the space on my labels so I did. -I did tests to see how long my microgreens stay good in the fridge and figured out that I should label my sell by date for 10 days after harvest. They were actually staying good in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.
@@woodstinyfarm Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, very very helpful!
thanks for sharing!! btw what is your pricing selling 12oz and 24oz container?
I don't currently sell those sizes.
@@woodstinyfarm May i know how do you price your microgreen according to weight you selling now pls
Hey Marissa, Love your content, question. Do you print the label yourself and if so, what printer do you use for this task?
Yes, I print them on an HP Laserjet Pro M452nw
