I grew up in a log house in the woods and wanted my family to enjoy a similar lifestyle. We built our log house on 7 acres in 2016 and have been busy ever since turning it into our own paradise in the woods. We are always busy with outdoor projects and can hopefully provide some knowledge or ideas for our viewers. If you love the outdoors, diy projects, gardening, tractors, UTV's, firewood, chainsaws, or log home maintenance we think you will enjoy our channel.

#90 This is a two month, 2,000 mile review of the 2024 F250 XL 6.8L with the XL off road package. How does it compare to my 2024 Chevy Silverado LT with the 6.6L gas motor. I also go over the suspension on the F250 and how the snow plow and camper prep packages affect the ride height. With a very easy suspension modification can we turn this into a mini tremor? #88. Today I am filling totes with campfire wood. The bundling business produces a lot of scrap wood. Instead of wasting it we turn it into profit. Now that we have the Kubota L4060 moving those totes is no problem. Kubota was way off on the lifting capacity though.

Firewood Bundling Made Easy!!!
Просмотров 449Месяц назад
#86 I should have bought one of these when I started my firewood business. If you sell bundles by the bag this Wolfe Ridge bagging station is for you. This has made bagging a lot easier and much faster. I got mine with the .75cuft and 1.25cuft buckets. I like to sell oversized bags so all my firewood bundles are 1.25cuft and my kindling bundles are .75 cuft. It seems very heavy duty and should ...
Switching To The Kubota Grand L4060!!! match your tractor to your tasks!

#85. I made a big upgrade by trading the Kubota L3901 for a Grand L4060le. This is a good jump in size, power, and lifting capacity. I have 3 very specific reasons for picking this model. 1) Price 2) Lifting Capacity 3) Hydraulic flow and pressure. We will dive into the details and explain why the 4060 was the best choice for our needs.

#84. So its time to prep the Kubota L3901 for its new owner. This has been a great tractor for us but we needed something with a little more capacity. We are going to grease, clean, and do a little paint touch up. The paint touch up is a very easy method that works great. You just need a little patience.

Look at a Moritz Trailers
That makes a great help on the cycle time. Hopefully that faster cycle will help you boost productivity.
I need that for sure. Bummed I couldn’t make it to Bunyan. Definitely planning on going next year.
Some guys are ordering the Snowplow Prep/Camper Package to give their Super Duty a leveled look. However it does make for a stiffer ride without the attachments. Maybe I missed it but why did you order this package? If you hadn't there would be significant rake from the factory.
I wanted the ability to add a snow plow plus it helps with resale and I wanted the rear sway bar. I wasn’t sure how much front lift it would add but not surprised. That stiffer front end helps with steering.
This is exactly the work truck I want but unfortunately the driver's seat is too low me.
Get seat jackers
4:53 I don't know how your driving style is but I get 16 to 17 mph country and city. I tow an 9k travel trailer and get 8.9 to 9.4 mph. I have not taken a long freeway trip yet but I expect the mileage will be comparable to my 5.3 1500. It was like going from a 2 stroke to 4 stroke in power.
Cam Superline equipment trailers are great, on my 3rd, zero regrets
That’s great to hear. I’m still debating which equipment trailer to go with.
I have 2 Diamond C trailers a 23' lpx 208 with max ramps gvwr 14,900 lbs and a 12' mdt with a gvwr of 9,890lbs both are fantastic trailers. The mdt has 6k axles and a single lift cylinder at the front my last trailer had the lift cylinders under the trailer. If I loaded the material too far forward it wouldn't lift as well the mdt has never failed to lift no matter where I load material in the trailer.
The Diamond C trailers are really nice!
Great video. Nice job describing the features. It’s a big purchase so doing your homework is important.
Thanks! Hopefully making a decision this week.
I’m mad you can’t get the xl with a 7.3.. they make you get the expensive stx package with electronics i don’t want..
I agree. And that’s the only reason I got the 6.8. But the 6.8 has been very impressive so far.
Be careful federal regulations say that any commercial trailer and cargo of 10,001lbs or more is a Class A cdl. That is why I had to get my cdl. I got snagged a couple of times.
Those regulations are tricky
Just bought mine yesterday. Another guy was looking at this truck. But i seen it online went straight in and bought it. Was 58k before tax etc, msrp was 61k. Got the push start, 4.30 axle, sprayed liner. I love the way the stx looks. Its not as fancy as my older f150 on the interior, but i love it.
That’s awesome, congrats!
I just bought a F250 STX 7.3 2 weeks ago and love it
Congrats!
To bad ford did away with the manual transfer case shifter
That would be nice on the base package
FORD🔥💪😁👍💥🚀
Love the build. Why not start with a 350 if you were looking for max tow/haul?
Thanks! I need 14k trailers to haul my equipment. An F350 would put me over or very close to cdl requirements in PA. An F350 regular cab would be a nice addition to the fleet!
Hey, I am glad I found this video a few years ago. I was in your situation and I bought a 16 foot Lamar dump trailer to fit my Kubota b3350. I then purchased a 22 foot tilt deck Lamar equipment trailer also 14 K. I love them both and Highly recommend them both. In the dump trailer, I can fit as much as my tractor with the bucket detached in the front and my landplane on the rear on the equipment trailer I could easily fit two attachments on the flat deck and the tractor with a bucket and a large attachment on the rear no problem.
That’s great info. Thank you for sharing! I am leaning towards Lamar for both my dump and equipment trailer. They seem to be well built and a good value.
@@cabinviewventures when I was choosing Lamar, I compared them against few other trailer manufactures as well well and the things I liked where the tarp placement and the door hold back and like you said the seven gauge floor and the rugged rails, it was just the best option
just the way i would order one. but with cloth seats and different color. and add 5thj wheel.
You won’t be disappointed
Give watchdog trailers a look. Not an i beam frame but everything else i think you mentioned. Double deck pump box so you actually have some storage area
Thanks, will check them out
Great video. I don’t think you can go wrong with a Lamar. Have you checked out Moritz? Don’t have one but I know they are a good one. Iron bull seem decent too.
Thanks! I have not checked Moritz but only because I don’t have a local dealer. I know there is a big dealer in Ohio.
Get a wireless remote for the dump trailer
I am seeing a lot of people add those.
I’m in the market again for a dump trailer too. What I’ve been able to find after researching for about a year now is for us folks in the northeast (upstate NY) if you are using the trailer during the winter you cannot beat the N & N dump trailers. They are hot dipped galvanized which basically is not allowed in the US these days. They are manufactured up in Quebec. They are expensive but not as high as the diamond c. A majority of trailers are manufactured down in Texas and even with it being sandblasted, primed then powder coated they just do not hold up well to the salt. If you will not use during the salt season of winter then I do not think it matters as much and a powder coated trailer works well. I recently was on vacation and stopped at central NH trailers and they have an enormous inventory with great pricing. I was able to checkout the n and n dumps and they were very solid. Even sell a model with a ramp combo back doors rated for 10k which you could easily put your tractor on with. Brilliant setup. One thing to consider in regard to length…if you are going to be delivering into driveways that are short or tight areas I think 14 foot is as long as you’d want bc with the truck length and limited maneuvering ability with a bumper pull. Ideally if you have a gooseneck hitch that would be the way to go but then it puts you more on the DOT’s radar. I have a dually and I’ve found with the length and not being able to really crank the trailers backing up a 14’ is kind of the best length. Thanks for all of your informative videos
That’s great info. I appreciate the response! I agree with the 14’ being the way to go. I do know of a dealer in northern PA that carries K-Trail and N&N. I should make the trip to check them out.
If you have a moritz dealer nearby check them out. They are very high quality trailers.
I don’t have one close but I know there’s a big dealer in Ohio. Probably 4 hours from me. I hear they are nice.
I was going to mention Moritz, I know Mike Morgan brags about his and has used it quite a bit for same things you are looking to do..... I know that I would be sure to buy something that has been primed prior to paint because not all companies do that and it will make a huge difference over time.
I have noticed a few companies mention priming before they paint.
Bagged firewood is nice and easy with the wolfridge bagger. We love ours.
That has cut my bagging time in half.
Bilstein 5100s are really slept on. For 95% of folks they will be a massive improvement in drive-ability and comfort. I added some to my moms 2010 F250 several years ago and it was a night and day difference. I was so impressed that I got some for my Lexus GX470 and used it to lift it 2". Highly recommend for any fence sitters.
That’s great to hear! I look forward to getting them on.
I build these trucks for a living. Its so hard not to buy the exact truck you have, ive been itching to upgrade to the XL off road f250 ever since we started building them. Its a shame that i bought a new f150 right before these came out. Theyre perfect 👌
Totally agree!
Bought the XL with the STX package, 6.8l v8, and the standard tranny instead of a high-trim f-150 because I wanted a stouter tow vehicle for our travel trailer. It does not disappoint. 😆
Definitely a good choice
Does the rear axle have electronic differential locker
Yes I did get the locking rear differential.
You might put a Detroit Truetrac limited slip front differential
Sounds expensive
Beautiful truck, who did you end up ordering it through?
Thanks! LB Smith Ford. Great dealership to work with.
My 2024 f350xl rides very good compared to ram I traded in.
I was surprised as well. Not bad for a heavy duty.
I feel the same way about all the bells and whistles. Not necessary for me. I went with a 96 F250 with a 460 for my firewood business. You got a nice truck there. Like the rear suspension upgrade as well. Can’t wait to see the look.
Those nice old trucks are hard to find.
try any E85 yet
No, just 87 so far.
@cabin view ventures. You might want to look into replacing the front passenger wheel hub. It might keep your front axles rotating even when you are not in 4 wheel drive. Replacing that hub will free up some rotating mass and should extend the life of the front axle and mpgs.
Is that an issue they are having?
@@cabinviewventures not a issue but I believe your front passenger hub is a fake one. Ford is going cheap. To test it lift the front of the truck with both front tires in the air and spin that tire. Most likely you will see the drive train spin also.
So in 2wd the front axle turns but the front drive shaft doesn't?
That thing has to ride terrible with the snow plow and payload pack…
It’s actually not bad. Softer than my 2024 Silverado 2500.
@@cabinviewventures It rides better than a Chevy with independent front suspension?
The steering on the Chevy was better due to the independent front suspension but my F250 rides way smoother. My Silverado had the Z71 off road package with the rancho shocks. They may have added to the stiff ride.
If you use drive-through car washes you might want to swap out the antenna for a small rubber one. Because of the aluminum body, I hear that the brushes can bend and damage the metal.
I have been too afraid to try one. Sticking with hand washing for now. Thanks for the tip.
You're right about the tailgate I was going to dampen mine as well but you don't need it. Mine came with the ladder that comes out of the tailgate. I didn't think I needed it but at 61 years old I use it more often than not.
That ladder step is nice. I had one on a lifted F150 and it worked great.
I’m a little skeptical regarding your driving. I drive a 2017 with the 6.2 gas, 6 speed trans and tow a 6000lb trailer averaging 10,800 gcwr every day. Im almost at 250,000km and i drive it like a sports car every day with the trailer and i get 18mpg. How do you get such poor mileage? Something isn’t right.
I would like a shorter lock&lube, may not be possible.
They have a few different designs
I can't understand why kubota hasn't switched to two pedals. I haven't seen a single person say they like the Kubota way.
Totally agree. It’s not a good design and definitely not safer
Nice rig. Got a 7.3 xl myself. Fyi all ford have remote start standard with the ford pass app. Bought a cheapo tailgate dampener on amazon....its worth it!
What year is your truck? I couldn’t find a damper that fit 2024’s. Guessing due to the new tailgate tie downs
The L4060 engine has 96.6 ft. lbs. of torque vs. 83.6 with the L3901 both at 1500-1700 rpm's. Got these numbers off Kubota's spec sheets. We have a 2019 L4060 with about 500 hours on it and it's been great. We did get the P0336 Crankshaft Position Error the other day, gotta check into that, it's still running fine. They stack another 175 round bales with it after it showed up.
Wow that’s a big torque difference. Thanks for sharing that!
I need a Grand L 2502
That would be nice
They seem to get a little bit better gas mileage. After about 6 or 7000 miles, when they get there broken in If the tailgate bothers you about waiting on it, push the button on the dash before you get out or use your remote before you get to the truck.
Gas mileage did go up a little as I got to 5k miles.
Nice truck man. I love the basic truck and how it had everything you need. My cousin has f250 same color which is my favorite. I just cant stand how Ford dips the window sills down for the mirrors. It feels weird to me driving it like everyone can look in. Horrible design in my opinion.
Thanks! I know what you mean about the window. Visibly is really good though. Way better than my Silverado 2500 was. I don’t miss all the cameras and sensors at all. Thanks for watching!
Nice video! And the last minute of it pretty much says it all!
I still use this thing a ton, love it!
@@cabinviewventuresI knew you would love it once you started using it. I have the XL too, and I use a 3lb hammer... works just right. I keep mine by the stove. I've seen some people put a 5 gallon bucket sandwiched between the base and the stump when they bolt it down on the smaller one... they have round bases and are smaller and fit down in a bucket just right. Can't do that with the square shaped base of the XL. I'm going to cut the bottom out of a bucket and just use it as a skirt that lifts on and off without bolting it down. I think these things are almost addicting... little bit of gravy from the sawing and splitting.
Love the nail in your walnut stump! I would have saved it as well! You should have cut a slab off the end before drilling that kindling cracker to it! 🫣
Very slim odds!
Sometimes we make too much of HP. I think it’s a power trip for some. Gearing plays a big role in it. Looks like you have the perfect tractor for your needs. And the attachments!!! Oh wow!!! Can’t wait to see what you get next😂.
Very true!
At the end of the day, if it performs well in your normal use case, that's a win! The perceived (or real) difference between your 39 and 40hp tractors is interesting though, especially for something really basic like driving up a hill where tractor weight should be hurting not helping. Some possibilities: * Hp figures are "peak" and probably at or close to max rpm. Not comparing apples to apples unless you tried both at their peak power rpm. Would they perform more similarly then? Larger motor almost certainly has a flatter power curve (turbo would be even better). * Do you have your HST features all OFF / Manual? Your 4060 hst pedal is fly by wire, so I wonder if there are some subtle shenanigans going on where the computer is backing off the transmission even just a little as the load builds (stall guard, but very early and minor) where the speed is dropping a little to avoid lugging. * Do you run with some form of "rpm cruise control"? I believe some of the more electronic compact tractors will advance the throttle to maintain the set rpm eg when you hit a hill or mow through tall/thick brush. * What does "net power" refer to? Is that at the wheels? Certainly the pto power is much lower, so perhaps net power doesn't include parasitic losses through the transmission and diff, and those losses might differ between the two tractors. * Manufacturers LIE! Normally they fudge figures high, but the Japanese were notorious for underquoting power of cars in the 90s. Underquoting a premium model's power figures so it gives a better than expected user experience without stepping on the toes of selling other higher power product lines sounds like something engineering and marketing would dream up. Really curious about the hst modes and rpm cruise setting though!
Thanks for the thorough response. Auto throttle was on but I set the rpm just high enough and kept light pressure on the throttle so it never activated. I would bet the gear ratio is lower and the power output is much higher. I believe net is rated at the flywheel.
I see you didn’t like and trade it in on a Ford. I thought you would have gotten better gas mileage for the Chevy.
I really liked the Chevy. I just wanted a plain work truck for the firewood business and I liked that you can get the F250 with the 4.30 diff. I was surprised the fuel mileage wasn’t a little bit better.
A lot of people just look at HP #. Marketing takes advantage of this for sales. The problem with that, is the actual ability of the machine to do work, is more related to traction, weight, torque, transmission etc. before HP#'s. If a person looks at old ground engaging machines, they are typically very low hp, massive torque, and heavy. Yet they can pull twice the # of plows or ground engagement as today's modern tractors. Modern machines, in larger frame sizes, can get by with less HP and more torque like the model you now have, and be quite capable. I think you did great.
I was happily surprised!
