I didn't like Joe. But my god, the people from his hometown are far more unlikeable. Pressing all their high expectations on him as if his life was theirs to steer. Why don't THEY get the Jag then?? You know Joe's on the right track because for one, he's married to Jean. It's the people you choose to be with that matters. I thought this episode was ahead of its time.

Only a couple of days ago, I wasn't quite sure whether Juliet Bravo is a comedy series that fails to be funny, or a drama series that fails to be serious. Now I'm convinced half these people have been told to 'Act in the style of 4th form kids performing a school play' (as requested by Humphrey Littleton, host of 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue'.... because it's clear to me these actors certainly don't have one).

Now this is a truly cracking episode, The last scene alone is top notch acting Margery Mason is showing acting at its best. Well supported by the rest of the cast.

Derek Newark was a very good actor when given the chance.

David Ellison is excellent in this role.

Terrific writing. The British writers can make anything interesting. American writers only tools are sex and violence.

I correctly identified the woman as the bullying teacher's nagging wife in the video Pink Floyd, The Wall (1982). She's "Margery Mason" as someone here says but I only knew her as Pink Floyd, The Wall nagging wife. Perhaps a sign of my misspent youth.

I've got a Latin 'O' Level certificate. I can't remember a damn thing about it. Not used it in 61 years. Oh me miserum ! My Dad didn't leave home until I was 16. It was a bit rough until the Social Assistance kicked in, we had something like a tub of Fry's chocolate spread, some beef dripping in a jar & bread for a few days for the 4 of us. That David at 35:20 has very poor Social Service & People Person Policing skills that the Missus didn't like. He's the station's Dirty Harry basically.

The boots on carpet reminded be I was living back at home East Acton August 1966 when I was 19 and plain clothes police were door to door in the evening because 3 police officers Fox, Wombell & Sgt. Christopher Head (Foxtrot One One) were shot dead that day about 300 yards from our house by Harry Roberts, Whitney & Duddy. My sister screamed while they were at the door and a big plain clothes officer in a big overcoat ran into our living room. It was a spider and he stomped it with his size 16 boots. Don't forget to wipe your boots if you're coming in.

I just came across this program a week ago and thought it might be one of those Brit comedies. I'm glad I was wrong! It's been a pretty good series! Great show!

My goodness that was so bad it was funny. I started watching episodes a few days ago and was impressed, thinking I should have watched Juliet Bravo when it first aired but this episode was dire. I'll give it another go but I've had my confidence seriously dented.

Wow! This was a really unexpected storyline, I understand retirement can be a challenging time but add to it a stringent mindset and it just really got to me.
