      I enjoyed reading Hayao Miyazaki's picture books when I first started learning Japanese. There are a bunch of them in Japanese you can find on Amazon like spirited away, my neighbour totoro and etc

    I found your voice so relaxing! Thank you for the recommendation, I'll try Le petit Nicolas. I read this book in translation when I was a kid, but I forgot about it. You're right, it most likely should be suitable for beginners. I think my level is a weak A2, so it should be OK for me. Actually, I learned English by reading fanfics and I'm planning to learn French that way too, but because of my still low level it's a challenge for me. I need to learn more vocabulary and grammar beforehand. It seems to me that films with subtitles are better than books to start with, but I suppose comics also have the advantage of allowing one to guess the meaning. With films, however, there is the advantage that you can practise listening at the same time.

    i liket it the method but, how long do you think it will take for me to have a decent 15/20 minutes conversation with someone using this method? if i have consistency of course

    • @julianne_learns
      @julianne_learns 8 дней назад

      I also combine reading with a lot of other practices too like listening. Realistically speaking, it took me 1-2 years to be able to hold a conversation in Japanese but I think it depends on how intensive you read and how much time spend on language learning!

    You're super gifted with languages, which implies you have a good ear. Your Japanese pronunciation is classy, elegant, and near-native. Vocab and grammar are undoubtedly important for mastering any language, but I think vowel sounds and pitch-accent (aka イントネーション) is more important for Japanese conversational skills. We've heard all varieties of Japanese spoken by people from China, and I've always had the suspicion that perhaps the regional Chinese dialect in China may also affect the easiness or difficulty of Japanese pronunciation. I'm sure it's just a typo but it's『自己(じこ)』紹介。The same word should exist in Chinese, since I recall hearing in college about the harsh 『自己批判』practice during a specific decade. I'm sure your grandparents' generation can tell you all about the stories from that era.

      Sorry for the mistake there! Thanks for pointing it out. Still needs to work on my Japanese:) It's definitely easier for mandarin speakers to learn Japanese since there are many similar kanji characters and pronunciations.

    Its awesome to see how many people are studying multiple lamguages. I, seemingly on a whim, decided to start learning korean about two months ago, and its encouraged me to really get back into Spanish. So seeing how you juggle two languages at once is insightful. It seems to make sense, at least in my own experience, to have different levels in each language and based on what you shared here. Im sure some people start multiple languages simultaneously completely from scratch and I'm curious to know what thats like. This learning journey is also motivating me to improve my english to heightened levels and acquire some new words here and there. Thanks for this video!

    what is your life in Japan like?

    • @julianne_learns
      @julianne_learns 21 день назад

      It's hard to summarize it in a few sentences but I will try! As an introvert, when I lived in Tokyo, I felt very comfortable because people there respected each other's boundaries. Japan is known for its cleanliness and convenience. Even when I didn't have friends in the city, there were many places and activities that I could go and enjoy on my own. In terms of my school experience, there were tons of welcoming events that allow us to make friends with locals. I didn't get to enjoy the clubs because covid happened and my term ended early. Overall, I would definitely live in Japan again if I have the chance in the future:)

    I'm learning 3 languages: French, Korean, and Japanese. All are at different levels. I'm almost at the B2 level in French and will be able to work abroad.~ For French, I listen to a lot of podcasts, watch a lot of native RUclipsr vloggers and documentaries, read news and blog articles, use Language Reactor chrome extension for subtitles, practice with Duolingo, practice writing with ChatGPT, use iTalki, and talk to myself. The best tools for me: How I improve my vocabulary = documentaries and Language Reactor chrome extension How I improve my grammar = lots of writing with ChatGPT and Duolingo How I improve my conversation skills = talking to myself and iTalki How I improve my pronunciation skills = shadowing (repeating words French people say) and iTalki (getting corrections)

      When I first started, I only spent 10-15 mins a day studying Japanese so I wouldn't get overwhelmed. I would pick the same time everyday and mark it in my calendar. I guess the key is making it a habit I can stick with! Once I got better, I started learning more intensively. There are also a ton of apps that can help you get started and send reminders to keep on track. Another thing that really works for me is watching stuff I know I'll enjoy. For example, I love vlogs and makeup videos, so I follow Japanese RUclipsrs who make that kind of content. It's great for practicing listening and keeps me interested so I don't lose momentum over time! Hope this helps:)

    Tuesday, September 3, 2024 ☁⛅☁ What a sweet and charming video! 😀 I like how you are so balanced and intelligent and sensible. 👨‍🌾 And you have a sweet voice. 💁‍♀ My only social website is Facebook. And I reduced my Facebook time because: 1: Facebook is so cluttered. It should have tabs for different friends, but it's all one massively long line of posts. 2: Facebook encourages people to have short attention spans. 3: There really are so few actual social interactions. It's rare to have someone reply to a post or a comment. Usually someone just clicks a like or love or laughing emoji. 4: I've had so many rude people write insulting comments, for no good reason. Almost always that person was an older woman. I gave you a thumbs up, 👍 and I subscribed to your channel. I am your 199th subscriber. 👨‍🌾 I wish you a happy and productive autumn, 🍁🍂 with a light and breezy personality, and a dash of whimsy, just like me, Anthony 🌾🐿🌳🐇🌾🦋🌾🌳🐿🌾🍄
