After the refit 1701 she is a fantastic design
Oh! On first glance and not reading the title clearly, I thought this was a normal NX Refit, but then I saw the glowing deflector dish and the solid engine struts. This is a good update to the update. Did you create this and print it yourself?
When you moved the saucer further back at the end of the video you inspired me to make my own model. Really cool Connie/Excelsior fusion vibes. It’s awesome when kitbash ideas come from just messing around. Love the model, Cheers!~
I know right. I thought the same. I'll be getting this kit again .
I've always liked the Excelsior class and this build has given me lots of fresh ideas and inspiration for my next build of it. Great job!
I am liking how this is going!
Coming along beautifully buddy. Your modifications would add thousands of square feet of internal space. These are more practical modifications than those of the Enterprise B Excelsior class ship. I see you've noticed how soldering would be easier if you had three hands😂 You can get solder wick from 3M tools quite cheap. One reel lasts years and it's great for removing excess solder.
coming along nicely, keep up the great work.
Thanks Ken. I appreciate your encouragement. I need a little to get this one finished. I've learned a lot from this project. 😊
This is my fourth model kit and first video build. 5 models if you count my scratch built USS Reclamation from junk around the house. I appreciate all the tips and help from the Live streams. You guys are very welcoming and encouraging so I thank you for that.
She is looking so cool specially with all the lights....she's coming together nicely.
That's really a kick in the nuts... you finally get the gumption to come back and start working on it, and it seems like everything goes all wrong! I feel for ya man, but I'm enjoying seeing this project progress.
Just gotta say, you're totally awesome my friend. Your whole life has been an example of how inventive you've been your entire life! Yer bro, Jerry
Thanks bro. I learned it from watching Dad.😊
Little known fact. Dad was a hell of an artist but never showed it! I have lots of stories.
I can't believe how fantastic this is!!!!!
Geordi La Forgery lol thats funny. Oh man to re-wire is the pits man...I still haven't replaced my green Nav. light on the 1:1000 NX-01, it's in the open but man I hate taking one step fowards and two steps back plus I'm afriad of making a mess after doing a clean job lol. But I tell you in order to be areal good model builder you got to be part engineer, artist, sculpture, surgeon lol. She's looking good so far and don't worry about how many episodes it takes, take your time man it's very entertaining and informative. Nice bird, looks happy and relaxed :)
Thanks buddy. We're getting there.
Thanks for the mention. Your Excelsior refit is really coming along. I reckon its going to great when its finished.
Thanks. Did I say that correctly? And I am adding more sets of wires, I think it will be brighter. Thanks for the tip.
@Trekmods You said it close enough to correctly for me to not worry
Looking better an better with each video, great job TrekMods
She's getting there. really like the Strongback and Landing Strip lighting. Btw, you using the water based Platic Putty? thats what I use, dries quick and sands very well or you can level down with water on a small wet towel or wet Q-tip. She's looking more and more like a Starship with every video, keep on keeing on lol.
I might be using too coarse of a sand paper. I let it dry for at least 4 hours.
@@Trekmods sanding sponges work pretty good.
@@wraith20072007 that's what I was using. Just too coarse.
Wow, that’s absolutely stunning! You got a way higher density of windows drilled out that I dared too, not to gloss over the fact you made this not only light, but separate, and create the most heartbreaking moment for this wonderful ship. This is truly inspiring, I was actually planning on taking a stab at lighting the entire 1/2500 scale Enterprise set sometime in the far future, but I can’t wait to see how yours turns out.
I have another 2500 D that I plan on modding into a TOS era Galaxy class.
By the way, what brand of drill bits you use, they seem very sharp..sharper than what I can find and what if of the same brand is the smallest they offer?
They are cheap no brand bits from temu. I can't afford anything else but I sharpen them .
@@Trekmods Wish I could sharpen mine, I'm thinking on getting a bit sharpener.
Oh man I know what you're going through, but I respect your ongoing attitude. to get her done. I know how you feel about re-doing wires...I'm almost done with lighting on the 1:1000 scale NX-01 and a green Nav. light decides to quit on me so now I have to take it out and install a new one. But she's getting there. By the way really loving that Deflector Dish set up, I might try and do that to my Excelsior when I go to build her. thanks for sharing, wishing you all the best as I continue to watch for updates.
Thanks so much. I'm trying my best here and I'll get better. I can't wait to see your NX. Have you seen the one I did?
@@Trekmods I think I seen that in the intro, but like to see pic's of it.
@@wraith20072007 there's a video on my channel and here's some pics bsky.app/profile/trekmods.bsky.social/post/3lahrgh5emn2d
I love making models with basic tools and equipment. I don't even use an airbrush on most models. Your Excelsior has nicer lines than the original film model. It looks like you are wiring your model in series which is ok if you dont want bright lights. If you wire them in parallel you'll get more beightness. To do this you have wires directly from a central power supply wire to each separate set of lights, one branch for warp nacelles, one for windows, one for running lights and so on until you feel happy about the brightness. I use repurposed phone charger plugs to supply power to my models as they are ready made transformers that reduce the supply from the mains to prevent LEDs from burning out. If you put tracing paper behind the widows after painting the inside of the part silver you get a more even lighting effect because the light is spread more evenly inside and the tracing paper diffuses the light to give a nice even lighting effect.
Thanks. I will try something like next time. I think it's too late now for this one.
Soldering is what I do every day at work. It's quite simple with a little practice. Just get the soldering nice and hot and dab the solder to where you want it while melting it with iron. It helps to tin your wires with solder before adding any devices such as LEDs. If you tinned the full length of the wire with solder where you stripped the full length of the wire it's easier to manage where the wire goes. Clear tape would be fine to mount the LED strip to the straw.
The tape did not work. Thanks for the advice. I will do that. Once I successfully did a couple, I think I have it now, mostly. Also, I got flux now. I didn't know I needed that. Thanks so much for your patience. 😊
Gotta watch out for those space Cockatiels.
He's still in the quadrant.
Nice video brother, good to see you back at it, can't wait for the next one
Thanks Lumpster. You get to see it in person.
Yay! He's back! Some builds just seem to be a series of things going wrong! I had a build once, it took me about a year to finish, but I went through a period of one thing going wrong after another that was so constant I ended up just walking away from it for about four months! As you say, sometimes it is an exercise in refusing to give in! (That build is now, of course, one of my favourites!)
I'm finally getting back to work on this thing
That really was an amazing idea for the deflector dish. I get that it's a lot of work to make these videos, but I for one am enjoying the journey you're on. I wouldn't get anywhere near as much out of just seeing a picture slideshow.
That's an insane amount of effort and detail for a 1/1000 scale model!
Very cool idea, I too always thought the back of the excelsior was a little too plain.
Cheer~~~replace or repair machinery, equipment, and fittings in (a ship, building)😊
I always love hearing your bird(s). Reminds me of the two I had. Is yours a Parakeet? I love the phaser strip idea on the saucer. I take you got the inspiration from the Titan-A from Picard? Where it had the old style phasers turrets like on the Excelsior and Connie Refits? But also up to date phaser strips. The ribbing around the impulse crystal is painted on the studio model as an FYI. It's like a very light greyish color. For the outer part that you were pointing at I would paint the darker blackish color you have already in spots then the ribbing around the impulse crystal I'd paint a slightly darker grey than what you have for your base color of the model.
He's a Cocktiel.
If you want to use more power, these LED filament strings from Aliexpress and others can also be run off 3 volts, though for the higher power consumption you might have to switch to a AA battery box from dollar store string lights.
I change it to a battery box after and I have some new lights coming.
She is looking nice sir liking the addition of the Phaser array. I have a similar idea for my Excelsior(Refit) type dreadnought I am gonna be building. I am planning to use three Ambassador-class nucelles on mine and maybe a small phaser strip on the underside of the secondary hull.
@@captaincharlemagne you have a new subscriber. I just checked out your channel. I'm going to enjoy this.
Nice work and fantastic lighting preview! I like the black and grey. It conveys the "Yes, I am an exploratory vessel, but I will beat you down in combat" aesthetic. It was nice to see your little helper again, too. :)
Just wanted to thank you for the inspiration. I have an Ent-C in my stash to make a version upgraded during the Voyager era, in part with 3D-printed elements.
Awesome. It would be nice to have a 3D printer. Please keep me posted on the progress. I'm going to give some shout outs of thanks in my next vid. Can I mention you?
@@Trekmods No problem. In the end, it's just a matter of learning the modeling tools from the free tutorials readily out there and then working on projects to gain experience. You're literally just printing model kit parts that take the shape you want and then develop it into kit parts, using the strategies you see all the time building them (necessary thicknesses, where to place reinforcement brackets and alignment pins, ...).
@@Iskelderon make sure it gets an impulse engine on the saucer.
@@Iskelderon silly question. Is it capital I skelderon or lowercase l skelderon? I want to say It correctly.
@@Trekmods Uppercase, lot a lowercase L. It's a play on the name of the ancient city of Iskenderun (aka Alexandretta).
this maybe to late but couldn't an old guitar string be used for the top piece of the phaser array ?. really liking the galaxy idea. 🙂
That's a great idea but it needs to be flattened on one side. Unless I made a trench for it to sit in.
It's so small that you wouldn't really see it anyway.
Rock on man! Thanks for the shoutout and for all the support! Keep up the great work on this model. Can't wait to see the finished result!
Thanks Jordan. I really enjoyed the group build the other day. I usually don't get a chance to watch live. You guys are so knowledgeable and highly skilled. This Excelsior is only my 4th kit so I'm still very wet behind the ears. I'll try to keep learning from all the great builders out there but I'm also compelled to do things differently. 🖖😊
I have an idea to do a TOS era Galaxy class. I have another 2500 scale Enterprise D and I think I can convert it. Should be interesting.
@@Trekmods awesome. We were all glad you showed up. Keep up the great work, my dude. You're learning fast
@@Trekmods that sounds like a very cool idea! Keep me posted
Great video, those impulse engines look great, and I am enjoying the series. Just wondering if you de-tack your tape to also help lessen the chances of peeling up paint.
The paint wasn't peeling, my light grey was thinned out too much so it blead under the tape. Also my tape is from the dollar store so it sucks. Also also, I'm learning and I will try that. Good idea, thanks. Any tips are welcome 👍🖖
I got to hand it to you Buddy, you're a calmer man than I, I hate to go one step forward and two steps back in a build like when the I.E. housing cracked on your Saucer, well I'll put it this way...I live in Ohio and my Daughter and Grandkids live in Georgia, I would have thrown the saucer section out the window so fast and hard my Grandkids would of seen it fly over their house lmao Anyway, I like the Deflector Dish ring idea.. real cool. The Impulse Engines look so cool, I really like those. She's really starting to take shape.
Ha ha, minor inconvenience for me. I spent around an hour trying to put those little red pieces in. I've been experiencing setbacks for my entire life. You grow to expect it and just go with the flow. I appreciate your continued support and I have some interesting plans for the next project.😊
@@Trekmods I hear ya, I learned to control my disappointments, I walk away calm down and come back with fresh eyes, rested mind and better plans and going by Boyds advice " it's just plastic and paint...most times it can be fixed, and when it can't just start fresh and learn from the mistakes " Sounds exciting for the next project I'll be watching.
@@wraith20072007 Boyd was awesome 😎
Will those pylon be strong enough to hold the nacelles up? They look quite thin.
I hope so. The middle connecting piece is thin but once it's in place it should be sturdy enough.
I use tracing paper as a diffuser. Its a nice even diffusion of the light, low cost and easy to work with. I must say though that this is an improvement on the original Excelsior design.
😊Great tip!
I'm enjoying your build from start to finish... always looking for the next part. Awesome work and very happy you're showing all of the details which many builders edit out. Perfect details you're adding! Thank you and looking forward next video! From one buider to another!
Thanks. I'm getting close to the end. I have a few choices for my next one. I have another 2500 scale D. What if the galaxy class was made in 2250s? TOS Galaxy
@@Trekmods Love it! Can't wait for that.
Those details on the sides of the deflector dish, and on the Miranda class, are NOT auxiliary deflectors. They're long range sensors.
Calm down.... you're needed at the next Star Trek convention.
Nope, those are the deflectors. The glowing bit is the sensor dish on the Refit.
After further research, I've seen the ones on Reliant labeled as docking ports or deflectors. They're definitely not docking ports.
Another source shows it as being on the ventral side of the saucer. Two red dots just before the planetary sensor dome. This guy says it built into the leading edge. Like the NX 01 but covered, so... ruclips.net/video/OD_r7HmY42E/видео.htmlsi=e8ziv4qRZSs-huh4
I agree with you. It is a cool, accidental effect that you should totally utilize. 👍😎👍
Hey there ! Wow thanks for the shout out! This is a great video! Definitely will pin it to the next video (uploading tonight)!
I've only just started watching you're videos and i would like to say great work and looking forward to seeing the finished model.
The blackish color tones for certain areas are a cool idea. It really makes those areas pop out to show the highlights of upgraded areas. I love hearing your bird. As I said in a previous video reminds me of the Quaker Parrot I had. She was a bit of a turd a lot of times and didn't really like anyone but me. I miss her a lot.
Hi there. I'm impressed, an American who understands and uses the superior metric measuring system. Your Excelsior looks cool too.
Canadian. But thank you for noticing.
@@Trekmods I do apologise. I find it difficult to figure out the difference between the accents. I feel for Canadians having to put up with America being it's neighbour🤣
@@milanondrak5564 No need for apologies. I'm quite well versed in the standard system of weights and measures as well. Growing up we used both. Canada didn't officially switch to metric until the 70s I think. Also, most Americans are familiar with metric,(superior) it's widely used in commerce, engineering medicine. It's just not officially used by government. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. I hope you get a bit of joy from it.
Hey Bro. Rick here again lol. Bro....I am surprised that you don't get many comments on your video's, I have been building since I was 12 and I am now in my 50's and still building and I have to say these mods are so cool, as soon as I see you posted an update on this build I'm like OH YEAH lol cause this is so fascinating to watch and love to see how she comes out. Like to see more mods after this build. Wishing you the best and be careful of the X-acto, don't need any more boo boo's lol btw like what you did with the top of the Nacelles with the panel lines and panels. Seeing by the comments and views, I think I'm one of your biggest fans and supporters...cool lol
Thanks so much Rick. I really appreciate your interest and your comments. I don't imagine that I have a huge audience. I only started making videos a few months ago. Excelsior is my 5th starship build. 4th kit, the Reclamation was made from junk around the house. I was just making like a little slide show of the process by taking photos along the way. I had a few models when I was around 18 or so but I didn't stick with it much after that. I'm an artist first and after seeing so many awesome builds on RUclips, I decided to try again. 35 years ago, I'm 50, I just put them together as per the instructions, did my best painting them. There will be more coming. I have The Reliant, classic TOS shuttle, 650 scale Enterprise refit, and another 2500 D. All will be modded and refit. I also have plans for another scratch build from recycled junk. I've been gathering materials for that. I hope you keep watching, it should be interesting. I hope my videos are improving as I get more comfortable talking to the camera and better at editing. Part 15 in a few days.🖖
@@Trekmods it's always hard to start something but I'm sure you'll get the hang of things as time goes by. I have a channel started to show video builds of my own but I have 5 Start Trek ships started in the prep stage and thought nahhh i'll wait to do s video series from the box opening onward lol but yeah love to see some more mod builds sounds very cool. can't wait to see #15 and say hey to me in that one, will be cool lol... take 'er easy.
