ROTEL style tomatoes
Use up your small tomatoes and last of the peppers and make Rotel style tomatoes to put on your shelf to enjoy the rest of the year. These are good for sauces and to make cheese dip. We always use it all.

CHICKEN ZOOMIES

Adding new baby chicks to our existing flock. See how excited the babies are to be able to spread their wings. The older chickens aren't so excited... LOL. Sit back and enjoy them playing and eating. #chickens #babychicks #chickenzoomies #newchickens

RED TAIL HAWK, So Glad He Chose us.
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.21 день назад
I have learned so much about this amazing bird. I wish we could have done more for him. So now I want a bird of prey. I feel like this was no accident that he landed in our yard, our little piece of heaven. On my way home I saw 2 juvenile red tail hawks in a field hunting. Never realized what I was looking at before. RIP sweet bird and THANK YOU. #redtailhawk #rehabredtailhawk #birdsofprey #fal...

DIY Truck Repair '84 Chevy Pinion Seal and more...
In 1 min my big girls start chasing the little.
Makes me want to chase them around. And then I get a visual 😭. Already feel like the crazy chicken lady!! 🥺
I let my chicks out about the same chicks you did and one of my younger chickens who turned out to be a rooster attack my chick and put her eye out , that about killed me... poor thing ended up dying.
@cindywolf2259 they are vicious little creatures. We’ve had similar issues. Every time I let a chicken sit on eggs and hatch babies 90% of them are roosters. They ganged up on one poor chick and killed her. She was pretty too. 😢I quit hatching my own chicks. 🐣
Had chickens (or chooks as we call them down under) when I was growing up. They aren't appreciated as they should be. Different personalities. Shame about factory farms. Thanks.
@hoff54a it is a shame. They all have different personalities. We love to keep them.
Great video Toni ❤
Thank you! 🤗
Probably led poisoning
What makes you say that??
You should have contacted the DNR and got this hawk to a vet.
We did contact DNR. I talked about that in the first video. I even contacted a rehabilitation person in my area. I wish we had better resources for wild animals. 🥺
That’s Cool Of Birds Of Prey And Also Did You That Hawk descendant To The Mighty Tyrannosaurus
Lol and chickens evidently!! That explains a lot! Have you seen them run?
@@homesteadhobbyfarm Who The Chicken Or Hawk
Chickens. Looks just like a velociraptor without arms 😭
@@homesteadhobbyfarm Yeah But U Can See Cool Raptor Aka Birds Of Prey When You Saw It On Your Video
That's a shit load of meat ! 😂😮 What ? No vegetables?😂😂😮
Oh Boy! I didn’t think it was all gonna fit. I have onion, corn and some peppers 🌶️. Does that count?
Hawks are fascinating creatures, and falconry is an amazing sport. There are so many possibilities for why that juvenile bird expired, it could be the flu, but also if anyone put out bar bait for rodents, it would have a similar reaction. Your local DNR should have information on who you should contact if you are serious about pursuing housing a bird of prey. There are a long list of federal guidelines and requirements and the commitment level is very serious. Even if you choose to go the route of being a rehabber, there is mandatory training and licensing. The fine for even having a feather in your possession is quite high, so make yourself familiar with your local, state, and federal regs. It is so rewarding for those who really get into it, so enjoy!
We have learned so much in a short time about these amazing birds. I want to look into it more, but I told Mike I’d have to give up some of my projects I currently do. Even being a rehabilitation specialist may be an option. I certainly look forward to working with these amazing birds. 🦅
Would like better footage of hawk flying and transition from sick to healthy
I absolutely agree. That would have been my favorite video ever to make. This was the hardest.
That’s so sad. We have a red shoulder or red tail hawk that lives in nearby woods but hunts in our yard for squirrels & rabbits. I’ve never seen it this close up. Such beautiful creatures.
Really we never had seen one up close, just maybe them sitting on a telephone pole hunting. They are beautiful and just as fragile as we are. Thank you for your kind words.
This video needs a warning. That made me sick to my stomach.
Sorry it gave you that reaction. I felt it was in good taste and didn’t want it to be click bait.
Yes you were for him. X
We are no strange to loss on the farm. Most we can avoid but not knowing makes troubleshooting difficult. 😥 thank you for your support.
Always sad. They seem to die so quickly when ill. Thanks for posting.
We have seen cows get sick and finding out that they are prey animals and don’t show weakness makes it hard to help them earlier. We learned a lot and I think will be better prepared if it happens again. I’m definitely ready to learn more!! RIP, FLY HIGH!!
@@homesteadhobbyfarm I have ducks, and being a prey animal they too don't show weakness. And, the old saying is, if you have a sick bird, you have a dead bird, meaning they can go quickly when sick.
That is sooo true!! Don’t realize how bad off they are. Sounds like you have had a similar experience.
@@homesteadhobbyfarm Yes, I feed the local Rainbow Lorikeets. See it too often.
@@homesteadhobbyfarm Yes. People that have chickens or ducks can have problems like egg-binding that can kill the bird, but when it is happening, you often don't see the bird is suffering until it is too late. I now have to look for subtle clues, because of this.

If you use poisons to kill rodents; your killing everything that eats them.
@johnneira we don’t have the need to use the poison with our cats. They keep the mice under control. But could have gotten one from another farm by us. Good point!! I sent a reply but evidently it didn’t post.
Aww that’s so sad! :( You tried so hard for this hawk! I am certain he didn't just starve to death because he did eat the other day. I'm blaming either West Nile Virus or Bird Flu. If he was walking in a “drunk” sort of way, then it was bird flu! He may have crashed into something and the impact could have caused internal bleeding. Admittedly, I would have done the same thing you did to help him but I'd keep him inside. You just never know what nocturnal predators there are late at night, especially when a hawk is stranded on the ground and can't fly. RIP beautiful juvenile Red Tailed Hawk!
We had suspected both things you just said. The night he went over by the cow barn he was protected by the electric fence. Smart bird. But the next night he just wandered off and we couldn’t find him. I do feel like he was sent to us. Now I am going to look into falconer. Thanks for your comments and help.
Same here, I'm looking to become a Falconer myself as well. What you need to do is find yourself a sponsor who has been a Falconer for at least 2 years. Then he/she will let you know what equipment or housing you'll need. Its not difficult to build a perch in a shed. The shed just needs barred windows and a door that locks closed. You can use astroturf to catch the hawk's droppings, which can be cleaned with a power washer. You need a freezer that can hold maybe 20 squirrels depending on how many you plan on catching with the hawk. Well, there's half of your Falconer checklist right here. So hopefully that helps.
@jthejh It does. Definitely not a small task for sure. Good luck to you too.
Awwwww 😢 he did chose you guys ❤
Hardest video I’ve done yet. Wish the ending was different. 🥺
This is a juvenile Red Tailed Hawk that’s fledged from the nest 3 months ago and has left the nesting area. He may have traveled hundreds of miles and took breaks to hunt but was unable to catch anything. It is also possible that he may have injured his wing. Time and meals will heal him. Raw chicken parts are always the #1 meal to give to a hawk in my opinion. It can be wings, the breast, back or legs. But whatever it is, make sure that hawk can eat the first bite without any extra effort. Raw steak cut into thin snake-like strips is my 2nd choice. Good luck!
Awesome!! thanks for the information. Do they just need to eat once a day? We haven’t seen him/her (not sure which) fly since Monday. I sure hope it sticks around to get healed. Is there any way to determine the sex of the bird? I just call it him.
The amount doesn't matter. A hawk should eat enough food that the crop in the throat budges. A hawk will stop eating on its own once the crop is too full. It is impossible to give a hawk too much food. A hawk could eat as much as 10 times a day if it hasn't eaten in a few days. But they NEED at least 20% in their body weight of food per day if you expect him to survive. Any less, then starvation is on the horizon. A Red Tailed Hawk weighs about 3 lbs, so it needs about 0.7 lbs of raw meat. The gender of this hawk can only be determined by size. Females are 1/3rd larger. So a healthy female would weigh about 3.5 lbs.
I like this hawk! I think he should stay as long as he possibly can. And yeah, raw chicken works best, but it can just be small pieces. This will conceptualize that a smaller meal is easier to catch. This way he no longer has to pick on prey that’s his own size. You did great feeding him, and I’m glad that he’s really getting tolerant of you!
I will stop after work to get chicken 🍗 I sure hope he does stay.
I do believe that you have been adopted
We are privileged to have it!!
Awwww you guys are saving him ❤
I hope. Something isn’t right. Maybe he just needs rest.
You look like you know where everything is id say it look good

Thanks for watching the video. Brake cleaner is also a great option.
I use brake cleaner to clean my funnels
That works too!!
I heard before that apples were poisonous to cows
🤷♀️ I hadn’t heard that. I guess if they eat too many it could do bad things. Don’t tell ours that they love them 😂
Awwww❤
Awe sweet baby loves apples!!
He was really shy but he really wanted that apple. 😂
You are overtightening. Never seen someone use channel locks on a rad cap either.
Lol. In my defense it hadn’t been off in years and that was the only way to get it back on.
We were afraid of that. That’s terrible 😢. It scares me when they flip their head back with one in their mouth.
Smart to give cut up apples to cows, not whole apples. We had one choke on one. It died that couldn't do nothing
At first he didn't like me, now he wants to lick my fingers! It sounds just like my marriage.
😭🤔😂 RITE
Doggo didn’t like the exhaust profile
He’s not real smart. Doesn’t know what’s good. lol 😂
Way to go little brother 😂
He’s still got it!! 😲😭😂
He is doing better than a lot of middle aged millenials could do!
I sure was impressed!! And he didn’t break anything 🥹😭
