Wildwood Off grid Homestead
Добавлен 22 фев 2022
Welcome to Wildwood Farms page! We are a small family homestead. We have actively lived an off grid lifestyle since 2006. Prior we had a semi normal on grid farm. In 2017 we settled down on our last ( hopefully) place and got seriously serious about living apart from the mainstream. I, Anne Marie, have a desk job that pays our bills, I am the main animal care taker and handle all the day to day farm things. Shane deals with the mechanics of this place, the solar system, the water system and keeping the wood pile full. He also does the butchering of the animals I have raised to feed us.
We do not have any city utilities and most of our meat, milk, and eggs come from the farm.
So if you're looking to start living a life where you are in more control of your needs, come along with me! I will tell you all about this wonderful life all it's ups and downs the good, the bad, the beautiful, the ugly, the easy and the hard!

To blanket or not to blanket

Blankets for horses is one of the many hot button topics in the horse world In my humble opinion, whatever makes you sleep well at night works. I blanket Silver because I want to, it makes me feel better. Does he need it? Probably not. Will it hurt him? Only if I am inconsistent. If you decide to blanket your horse realize you may be taking away his/her ability to acclimate to the winter weathe...

Nope, won’t be watching again. You ruined the scene with foul language.
Damn, how do you function online if you're that sensitive?
Seriously? I rematched the entire video and there's exactly ONE cuss word. You are such a delicate little flower.
@@wildwoodoffgridhomestead you ruined nothing, ignore him. I think most people (those that don't feel the need to comment) are normal people who live in the real world where the entire scope of language is used. Also farms are dirty therefore language can and should be too <3.

That’s going to produce a very unique flavor profile, especially using that tin. As long as you keep the temp inside that fridge below the breakdown temp of the plastic insert you should be good. That tin though, would not be a bad idea to look up the mineral content.
@@aaronj2296 the Temp in the smoker doesn't get above 100° fahrenheit. The pipe is an exhaust pipe so made to handle high temperature but again it doesn't get very hot either. As for taste the bacon is delicious! Thank you for your input!

You hit it on the nose, we went off grid and good lord we were so misguided about even the basics. How do you go get water when you don't have money to put gas in the car to go get water, or even how are you going to gas up the generator, or even get to work with no money?? It takes money to literally be able to breath lol. We couldn't keep the fire going, it would be - 7 inside our building. That is just 2 things in a situation that has millions of issues like that... We looked like bums 24/7 lol also it takes physical strength to do anything when homesteading, I should have factored that in. You are on point, thank 6ou for spreading the truth

There are so many good horse training videos available on youtube, where you could learn how to use your body to communicate, how you can read your horse, how to give him his space etc. And then you show us this clips where you violate all rules of horse man/woman ship by grabbing the rope so short, and yanking the horse around. Why? And: you are very lucky that the horse is so calm, though confused, accepting its fate. But can`t you see that Silver has resigned from cooperation with you?
0:02 @@dorotheaschell6701 resigned? Yesterday I was working in the paddock picking up branches and he followed me everywhere no halter lead rope nothing. When I veg out in the milking room he stands at the door and watches me. While you may not like way Silver and I communicate we get our messages across just fine. I've had him since he was a baby and he's 6 years old and a Stallion. Not everyone works the exact same way. Silver and I have a great relationship and he has never been abused in any way. There's a lot of videos of him and I. I never yanked in him and I read him fantastic and he reads me. How much real hands on hot sweaty dirty real experience do you have with horses or any animal for that matter? Me decades of daily working with animals. Thanks for your very wrong opinion. Have the day you deserve.
Beautiful horse!
Smart horse woman
Hes a beautiful horse!
Not it's not
Many people think Silver is abused. I beg to differ. He is clean calm and well fed
A whip is used as an extension of your arm and your body should be pivoting in a round circle (whip just slightly aligned behind the quarters). There is absolutely no reason to jerk or pull the leather strap (not a rope) forcefully for this can traumatize a horse. Pressure and release are the goal, the horse should be allowed to go at a slower pace when first starting out. The horse is totally confused and has no freaking idea what he needs to be doing, need to talk to him (slow, good job etc.). At one point you tell him slow down then you get the whip after him. I did see some abuse and bad communication, good god I hope this horse is going to be fine where he is hard to watch.
SILVER has been with me for 4 years now. I bought him as an untouched yearling at an auction. This was done purposely rough and unpolished to show that using a whip ISN'T abusive. I have ridden him for hundreds of miles and he isn't lunged very often. He is by no means traumatized. He is spoiled rotten really and he didn't want to work.
One of the worst things you can do is step back I know you mean well and are still learning but this can cause a dangerous behavior to form of the horse coming in at you.
Yes. The best thing and bravest thing you did was to put the video out there. You will be told you lack horsmanship and education for lunging. You have an opportunity to grow. In teaching and body language you arw totally confusing. Especially bad judgement removing the dog. Good luck.
@@lauralittle1970 The lunging was purposely rough and unpolished to show that using a whip wasn't abuse. As for Kavic, the dog, he's a 6 months old lgd and independent AF.
HO HUMMM 🥱🥱🥱🥱
I forgot something: You are quite lucky, that Silver is such a calm horse.
@@dorotheaschell6701 silver is the horse he is because I have had him since he was a baby and he trusts me and I trust him.
Very bad body language (drive-line), no communication with the horse, and no sense of pressure and release, instead massive use of the whip. The horse is confused, its movements are stiff, and it looks very unhappy. I have seen worse abuse than this. But maybe Silver deserves something better?
@@dorotheaschell6701 Lol sure right. Silver has it damned good. It was hot and he hasn't been lunged in like forever. I did it rough and unpolished for the reason to show that using a whip ISN'T abuse. And if you had watched the WHOLE thing he got smoother at the end and stood calmly while I ran the whip all over him. It was meant to show even a newbie could use a whip without abuse. FYI I AM NOT A NEWBIE I JUST PLAYED ONE FOR THIS.
I suggest you look into "Warwick Schiller atuned horsemanship", to learn more about pressure and release, body language and connection.

She doesn’t know what she doing
@@DonnaS-q9s and you do? If so please show me a video of you working with a Six year old Stallion. Yes I do know what I am doing..
This is nothing like what Charlotte was trying to teach. This chic is trying to circle the horse online, but with a lunging crop not a flag. Charlotte appeared to be teaching the horse to piaffe completely different
She's just a bit confused between lunging and working a horse online. She's missing a few tools. Lucky for her she's got a very patient horse.
Silver trusts me.
I feel like theres much more abusive things than spanking a horse with a whip. Yes its not the perfect thing to do or was it smart. But theres sooo many worse things Olympics have done than spank a horse with a whip.
Teach your horse word cues. Starting on a lead rope. Say walk and you start to walk. Repeat this until when you say walk he starts to walk. Then you move on to trot. Do this from a walk then say trot and urge him on. This way when you start to lunge him he knows what you want. Also when lunging keep your body at a point to his rear. This means you dont stand in one spot. You keep yourself slightly behind him. You'll get it. And its so much easier when he knows what you are asking. Even under saddle tell him to walk ,trot or canter.
@@barbrice721 he does have word cues my mic doesn't pick up my talking
@@wildwoodoffgridhomestead Sorry. Lol
That horse is DONE WITH YOU.
@@lisabrown4507 you are so very wrong. Silver has no problem with me. He is an opinionated young man who needs to know his place in the world like all of us. Good manners will be the best thing for him.
@@wildwoodoffgridhomestead it’s not the horse . It’s you. He hasn’t a clue what you’re asking him and you have no clue how to answer him.
Let's get this straight: do you think that what you're doing here is the same thing Charlotte Dujardin was doing? Because I'm here to tell you that it isn't - and by the way I don't think Charlotte would be happy that you're the one defending her. No matter how awful what she did was, this 'demonstration' is beyond cringe. You didn't whip your horse 24 times in under a minute of course, so good for you! You did that bit better than she did. But do you notice how your horse doesn't really do what you're asking of him half the time? I hate to tell you, but you're kind of incompetent... Maybe this whole whip thing isn't actually working out for you after all. Even your dog won't listen to you. Imagine using a lunge whip on a dog because you're that bad at training animals. I don't think this video is achieving what you think it's achieving. It's honestly kind of embarrassing to watch and it worries me for you that you thought it was appropriate to share this with the world.
That was the whole purpose of the video to show that even as bad as i did this on purpose mind you it was to show that things can be totally blown out of proportion. As for Kavic he's a lgd and not trained at all. He lives with the livestock and is all of 6 months old. His job is to guard the stock. Extremely independent.
TThis person doesn't know what thjey are doling.
Damn straight.
Society has turned into a bunch of hysterical squishes thanks to the propaganda from groups like PETA mixed with people shrieking "ABUSE!!!" on the internet over EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN. People who went into a nuclear meltdown over Dujardin, screaming about her flicking the back side of a horse with a dressage whip? I have been telling them to watch some videos of feral stallions out in Nevada settling their difference by tearing chunks out of each other, kicking the $#*! out of each other, knocking each other down, kneeling on their opponent and mauling them. Those horses are covered with scars from fighting. Oddly enough, those people have no quarrel with horses beating the $#*! out of each other because that is horse-on-horse "abuse".. But someone just annoying a 1200lb horse with a dressage whip and not leaving a mark? They want to ruin that person's career and life. Explain that to me.
You get it. Thank you
Why are you whipping your horse. If you don’t know how to do it properly don’t use it at all! I don’t even own horses but watch so many videos because it’s always been my DREAM TO OWN A HORSE!!! and I know more in preparation for a horse &lunging them properly than this. Not only are you just making her go round and run for no reason but you’re using that whip incorrectly. RUclips is free. 😢
@@Spiritualpanda2 so you don't have horses, and never have. So you watch videos and presume to know what it takes to train and work with a 6 year old STALLION? I WAS NOT hurting Silver in any way. To address your points yes it wasn't smooth and polished but I didn't by any means whip him. Do you see any negative responses from him? Did he try to run AWAY? OR pull the lunge line from me? Or try to kick, buck , strike or any other behavior that shows I was hurting him?. Second SILVER IS A STALLION (you must not be that observant cuz he's hung) and third it's TOO DAMNED HOT to saddle up and ride Silver so lunging gets him moving and exercising. So if you are such an expert ( not) show me a video of you doing it better. Oh wait you can't because you DON'T HAVE A HORSE.
She's not whipping the horse but she could walk a in small circle to allow easier moment the horse would have a bigger circle but this isn't horse abuse
