My name is Daniel Abendroth. I am a professional podcast editor and Reaper fan. More of the Reaper content on RUclips is geared towards music production but Reaper is such an amazing tool for podcast production. (If you know how to use it.) That's where I come in. I've been editing podcasts for over 5 years and I want to share my knowledge and make Reaper one of the top choices for podcast production.
So join me on this journey as we share the greatness that is Reaper.

How to Preview Your Podcast Edit Before Making the Cut | REAPER for Podcasting
One very cool thing that REAPER does out of the box is the ability to preview your edit before you actually make the cut. Have you ever made an edit just to listen back and realized it doesn't sound good, or you missed something?
Not a huge issue but it takes time to go back and fix it. REAPER makes it easy to avoid that. Just highlight the section you're about to remove, hit preview play, ALT+Space by default, and you can hear the playback while ignoring the highlighted section.
This is a very simple tool that can make your editing life just a little bit easier.

Simple Way to Add FX to an Item with One Keystroke | REAPER For Podcasting
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 года назад
There is a podcast I work on that has a lot of plosives. But rather than adding a de-plosive to the entire track, I want to treat each plosive on its own. This is pretty simple to do but splitting the plosive into its own item and adding de-plosive through Take FX in the items property. However, this is several steps and we can do that more efficiently. This video shows you how to create an FX ...
UPDATED - Adding Improved Better Render to File Menu

Thanks to a comment on my video for @TheREAPERBlog, I learned how to add custom actions to the file menu. I've also improved my custom render just a little bit. My old method changed the render action to reset the playrate back to 1x speed before rendering. In this video, I showcase my small addition as well as how to replace the Render option in the file menu to make sure you NEVER render chip...

Improving Your Workflow with Reaper Project Templates | Reaper for Podcasting

Reaper project templates are fantastic! Especially for me since I work on a number of different shows. I can shave several minutes off the editing process by having my intro and outro automatically inserted for each episode. On top of that, I can also have the id3 tags auto-populate saving me time. By putting a little work in at the beginning, you can save yourself time and prevent mistakes whe...

Reaper for Podcasting: A Beginner's Guide for New Users
I need help with splitting a Zoom audio file into multiple tracks i.e Mine and the guests because they needed to be treated differently. How do I do that? I can't seem to find a video explaining that.

One video and I'm sold
This is a really good tutorial, but I think it would have been better geared as "Reaper Fundamentals". I didn't see anything in this that would be specific to podcasting. I'd definitely be interested in seeing more though!
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
This is what i needed to know! 🙏
super helpful, thanks!!!
I am having problems after trim a track. After triming when I listen to the audio I noted that several parts are repeted. It´s like all the trimmed parts are duplicated. What´s wrong?
Hi. New user here. I can't get preferences to open. If I try to open it a couple of times, Reaper stops responding. Any advice?
07:30 When he said "we're not going to do any post-processing..." like bro that's why I sat here for almost 8 minutes already and NOW you tell me you're not doing it? Nah. Not cool.
hey buddy. It's a nice straightforward tutorial. but I'm confessing with one more thing so after clicking arm/disarm button theres option called left/right. so does this mean if a record in left the audio will played on the left channel only? i'm gonna record a song. help me out. love from bd❤
Super useful!!
I know this is an older video, but I still wanted to say thanks for providing such a helpful video. Reaper is unbelievably powerful, but it's not at all what I would call self-evident or user-friendly.
100%. I really feel like they need to bring on a UX person to make it more approachable. haha
this is great, thank you!\
Love this even in ‘24, thanks!
incredible content in the modern sense, but mannnn, if this video was made in 2002 it would have been 4 seconds long and i would have loved it so much more haha
😅fair point🤣
Great video - I'm using your technique to add a Blur Video custom action using reaper's video processor, for those sections of items that we need to blur.
брат ты просто лучший целую тебя в макушку
Hi, you mentioned you bought the waves creator kit, how was it in your opinion?
Yes thank you for creating this video on reaper. I presume reaper is just for audio recording? Is there a windows software package available for recording Podcast videos for youtube that works with reaper. I'm a newbee to creating podcasts and have no idea where to start. Any advice would be great. Thank you, Fiona
As far as I know, there is no direct way to record video in Reaper. If you're using a webcam, Windows comes with an app called Camera that can record video. You would then just import the video file in Reaper and edit there. I would suggest checking out @TheREAPERBlog. He has a doing video in Reaper.
@@ReaperforPodcasting thank you so much for getting back to me.
Hi Daniel, what are the latest plugins you usually use? Your livestreams are 2yrs old and I am curious if you change, or add some plugins/fx you usually use for mixing. Or maybe if you have new workflow when editing podcast. Thank you
Can you tell me one thing? For podcast any luf s levels should we match or we directly export the audio and upload without any mastering?
Depends on the platform. RUclips likes -14LUFS. I think Spotify as well. Apple wants -16LUFS. I aim for -16 and let the other platforms deal with it as they will. But I would never put out an episode without some sort of mastering.
Hi, what is alternative for RX?
I don't know that there is a comprehensive alternative to RX. Are there modules in RX you're looking for specifically?
@@ReaperforPodcasting hi Daniel, thanks for the reply. I am learning to be a podcast editor, I followed your script, advices and guide but it's hard for me to start if from the beginning, I have no chance to follow you along with your workflow stream. You use RX for mouth de-click, plosives, and you use also some paid plugins like rider, shnaps Omni, wml . Actually, I am looking for the prices of the FX you used inside the reaper ( Waves plugins are on sale ), but my question, can I be able to execute good editing without RX ? Most of the videos I saw are using RX :( . I am hoping you could share again a live workflow of your editing on reaper in live stream. The last stream workflow of you was 2yrs ago. Thank you in advance.
@@SimplySars You 100% can be a great editor without RX or any paid plugins. Most of the plugins you listed have a free alternative. This list is dated but it has my recs for paid and free plugins. reaperforpodcasting.com/plugins I would also suggest getting RX Elements when you're able. It goes on sale a lot. Right now it's 50% off. www.izotope.com/en/shop/rx-elements/ Sadly, I don't know of a good alternative for mouth de-click but most of the others you should be able to find.
@@ReaperforPodcasting thank you again Daniel. After checking you plugin lists I think I'll buy some of it for like Schneps Omni at the moment. I would like to request if possible if you can do one more time live workflow stream? Thank you again in advance.
@@SimplySars Omni is a good one to start with! It's on my to-do list do so another workflow! Just don't know when.
Amazing, love it,
I'm still looking for a way to trim silence on start and end only. It seems all these methods trim silence in the middle too... Audacity had the same issue so I switched to Reaper just for that. Maybe I'll have more luck with Dynamic Split, if I manage to set a good threshold (to make sure I don't delete too much of the track at the beginning).
At the start and end of a track?
This is cool! Wonder if there’s a way to use something like snapshots but with pre-programmed smooth/slow fader movements.
I'm not sure I follow. What do you mean by snapshots?
@@ReaperforPodcasting I'm referring to the SWS Snapshot extension. Gives you the ability to save snapshots of your mix. I would love to figure out if it would be possible to trigger the snapshots with smooth fader movements by pressing a button on my stream deck.
First Google result, no need to look further. Nicely explained, perfect solution. Thanks 👍
Thank you for make this, it's exactly what I was looking for
Thanks! Great step by step for Reaper.
Hey Daniel, two year later you're still helping people. I just got RX10 and added it to Reaper as my external editor. Izotope's info didn't cut to the chase like you did. Thank you!
I love reading comments like this! Thanks so much. :D
My brother and I want to start a podcast primarily focusing on issues surrounding people with disabilities. Is it possible to collaborate with others when using Reaper?
Collaborate how? As in both of you being able to work on the same project at different times? Or work on it at the same time similar to how Google Docs works? Or something else?
@@ReaperforPodcasting Would my brother and I have to be in the same room while we work on a project, or could we both be part of the podcast at the same time in different locations as long as he and I have Reaper on our computers?
@@heathersailes4280 To work on it at the same time, you would need to be in the same room. Otherwise, you could keep your project files in Dropbox and work on them separately. You wouldn't be able to work at the same time but your changes would stay in sync.
really useful for beginner! thanks a lot for producing these vedios!!
Thanks for the great video and all the info. I've been using a bunch of different resources to try to speed up my workflow for my longform podcast and your videos are really helping. Question, how did you manage to shrink your mixer to the point where it allows much more of the track's area to be visible? On your videos, I like the ratio of Mixer size to Track size. When I try to scale down my mixer it hits a limit and will no longer shrink the height.
What you see in this video is a fresh install of Reaper. There might be something up with your install if you're not able to get it that small. I'd suggest posting a screenshot in the FB group and you can get ideas from the community.
Legend! Thank you!
So refreshing to find an answer to a question so quickly & simply!!! Ty!!
Siyabonga (Thank you) 🙏
dude this is bad a**! I was searching for how to create a shortcut to an item for the exact reason you was using it with rx deplosive! Thanks so much!
This is amazing!! Thank you.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
very helpful! Thanks man!
Hey, just to let you know how super-useful this has been to me. Truncate Silence is now a staple of my workflow. Thanks for the content Daniel!
Thank you SO MUCH!! This was very helpful for my coming podcast (Coffee Humor with "Joe Caffeine")
Very nice and super helpful. Thank you! 🙏🏼
