57talk.com ''Cowboy'' Bill Watts Shoot Interview (Part 4 82-84 Glory Mid South Days )
"I was his hobby to be mean to 😂"
I like to imagine 80-year-old Bill Watts going around his vitamin company open hand slapping the sales reps 😂
I love watts but the oil crisis had very little to do with mid south going under and more to do with the midnight & rock n roll leaving, magnum, jyd, etc and replacing them with al perez ,Master Gee and the snowman and all those dudes. Plus he kept coming out of retirement every year. The midnight rider thing was awful. His feud with hot stuff eddie gilbert was a pale imitation of his deal with cornette. So regardless of the price of a barrel of oil, nobody wanted to go pay to watch that shit. That's the bottom line.
Wrestling was lucky to have this man, a truly intelligent leader
I first met Buddy in high school and he never forgot me we remained friends through the years and always hugged me when I would see him and we even shot a couple commercials together for the auto dealership I managed.. I miss him alot...
i live in the st.louis area north country.. love st.louis wrestling kiel auditorium arena wrestling at the chase...had all the programs... 60s-80's..but my first wife destory my 60s programs.. still miss them
I could listen to Buddy all day!
I was intrigued to hear his side of the story and he makes a lot of sense in some of his justifications. a great interview but only after he clarifies that he gets passionate not cranky.
Just caught this interview, I will give you a sport blacks dont dominate, Thats power lifting, Olympic weightlifting, And the worlds strongest man competition, To name a few...
jesus this guy can spin a yarn -- his rasslin thoughts are fine, his world view is hilarious
53:20 and now they bring them across the border
17:33 buddy said that shit quick as hell we just jacked up and got outta there.
Buddy always so chill. Very drawn to his stories
Buck Robely. A legend in his own mind.
Tommy Gilbert and akbar went at it in Tahlequah ok.😊
This is part 2.grear.❤❤❤
I shook hands with Scador Akbar. In Tulsa back stage and Tahlequah. Great man.
He wasn't the best wrestler but he's a gem of a human.
So, Tony Atlas was too chicken to testify, Sure aint how Tony tells it, Bucks story has the ring of truth to it.
What a boob. Hulk was a Champion in one territory so of course he can win often. But the NWA Champion has to go to territory to territory and defend the title. So what are you gonna do have a babyface champion go against the top babyface in the territory? That would be the sh*ts. What are you going to do have the babyface champion go against the top heel in that territory? Then the fans of that territory never see their babyface get the shot at the title. I understand what he is saying but the formula was a traveling heel champion for a reason.
For some strange reason I didn't appreciate this man when I was young. Now I realize what a jewel Buddy was. I did get to see him wrestle at least once. Too tall, too tan and too good looking! God bless you Mr Landel...
Johnny Powers (1943-2022)
Great interview 🙌🏻
I love Tommy Rich, and he is feeling it during this interview haha.
Such a nice guy. Great manager!
So what do you call a man threatening to fight everyone that doesn’t do exactly what he wants? That’s a bully. Also I notice he likes to bring religion into everything all the while cursing every breath. This is the reason he didn’t last after the mid 90s. The old way of business was over. Now I’m not saying he wasn’t made that way from dealing with a business full of con men and hustlers, but other people came out the other side not acting like that. But I suppose if we look at other promoters like Vince, Crocket, Fritz, etc he’s about par for the course. A cartel of bastards haha
nice
Buddy Landel, bullied by a midget, or little person I believe is the currently accepted nomenclature
Great man and friend and always remember never forget. R.I.P. ❤ 🙏
Punk
I always liked SKandor Akbar, he was a great, real heel, I totally believed it. He even did a fireball or two🔥
That was like listening to a mad woman
Leonard Lake was a wrestler?
Eric loves him some Eric
reading about this guy in my Tim Hornbaker book
I was in Louisiana during the Oil Bust . It was near a depression . Things were horrible 19% unemployment
Vince J McMahon was a lot classier than his son .
Wrestling very much did break Antitrust laws . The NWA was a cabal
MOST OF THE BLACK WRESTLERS INCLUDING TONY ATLAS ALL SAID BILL WAS A RACIST USING THE N WORD TOWARD ALL BLACK WRESTLERS.
David was the star of the Von Erich family if all things were considered . He was the best in the ring , the best interview and understood the business better than any of his brothers. His death spelled doom for the for the promotion .
I had met Jimmy in public settings a few time . He never broke character yet was never rude . He was polite but kept things short . Probably to protect his gimmick . He was very dedicated . In learning about this era I have yet to hear from anyone that Jimmy Wehba was anything but a classy guy
I love his mid-Texas accent “ I started in Nineteen -Sixty Tew “ . Nothing weong with it but its distinct and you aren’t hearing regional accents like that anymore . I did think it slightly took away from his gimmick , though . Not as bad as horribly put on Arabic accent though . Maybe thats why he never affected one ?
Who is the host of this is it GARY Michael Capetta.
I watched Cowboy Bill Watts before he retired the first time I missed him in the ring
Wow
Buck Robely was everything Buddy says he is. And 💯 more.
I miss you my friend. RIP.
I'm not trying to hate but why was it okay for Buddy landel to wrestle The Invisible Man but when Kenny Omega did it all the old-timers hated on him
JP passed away Dec 30 2022.
