Why do so many other organists play this extraordinary piece of art like they have to catch a flight in an hour. I enjoyed this interpretation greatly.

An impeccable interpretation and at a more moderate tempo than other versions, the piece is played at such a speed that it loses meaning. However, I must say that I am exasperated by the extremely perfect tuning of that instrument.

Although I've listened to plenty of interpretations of this on before, I've just heard Xaver Varnus's interpretation of this one in Ottawa. Unfortunately for him, and even though I loved his interpretation of Bach's Toccata and Fugue BWV 565 (compared to Carl Ritcher 1954, my favorite), I much prefer yours. This may be due to your musical choices (the accents, your slightly slower rhythm), which transport us into a totally hypnotic sub-paced rhythm. You're the only one so far to have managed to put me in this state, simply by closing my eyes while listening to you. And still the best recording of and pipe organ yet !

It's nice to show how things were done in earlier times, before electric motors or water motors were used to raise the wind supply. My perfect pitch is telling me that this organ is pitched a little higher than our standard A=440hz. Thank you Katelyn.

Thanks for sharing this lesser known work from Dupre. 46 years ago (when I was an organ student) you couldn't even mention his name in organist circles without being scoffed, much less perform one of his works. Glad that the "critical period" is over.

Each well-versed organist knows that the oeuvre of Marcel Dupré is among the most demanding among all organ works from a technical point of view ... Yet you make it look like a piece of cake, I cannot think of a better compliment in the sense of Mozart, who stated that true musical mastership and virtuosity means making look even the most difficult piece like peanuts ... BRAVO !!!

Love the “growl” from the pedals at both the start and the end. Is it something like a posaune (trombone) stop? The manual parts were very chromatic all through. Sounds typical of Dupres to me. Thanks for posting this. Must be a superb organ to play. 😊
