Check out my latest video as I visit Stanford Hall Mini Show 2024
A great day out with a huge selection of classic minis and also a fair amount of the bmw mini
Loads of traders selling classic mini products so it’s worthwhile a good look around
My favourite part of the day was the exhaust competition to see who has the loudest exhaust
Please give the video a thumbs up and if you can please subscribe to the channel
Thanks Kev

Classic Mini Restoration - Heritage Scuttle and Bulkhead Repair
Просмотров 7522 месяца назад
Another video on the rusty 1998 Classic Mini Cooper Sportspack @PocketRocketGarage In this video I need to fit the brand new Heritage Scuttle Panel and Heritage upper Dash Rail, but to do this I must cut away a huge amount of rusty metal from the top of the original Bulkhead From this I will attempt to fabricate a repair section from some fresh metal and then I can weld the 3 layers of metal to...

Classic Mini Cooper Sportspack Restoration | Do the Welded in Repair Panels Fit
I gave up my job to watch RUclips.😂
Hey man great work can you do a welder setup video with settings and disc your using to knock back the welds great work
Thanks for watching, that’s a great idea 💡 I will get a video uploaded as soon as possible
You got the patch by the badge spot really well. Nice job.
@@herenow2895 thanks, I am hoping black wrap across the front of the bonnet will suit that car!
Was at this show. Third year in a row. We are stood in the crowd where the purple shorty Mini pulled up, during the competition. Thankfully there were more cars this year, BUT I feel they shouldn't allow those hideous new "minis", which are as close to a Mini as a Transit van. Bloody awful now. I went a couple of times a few years back, before the BMW Mini was around and it was a great show then
I used to go when the bmw mini wasn’t even around! It just needs changing, food vans are shocking! Same format and less traders each year
@@PocketRocketGarage I agree regarding the food. Just one burger van and an overpriced curry stall, (£11 for a veg curry, £13 for chicken! No wonder people were buying bacon butties instead!) Shame really.
Same cars as Himley, which is why i stopped going both shows, you either go one or the other. The BMC would do better moving one of them further North maybe. Im sure with a strong wind you will get yours at a show in 2025, these things take time mate.
Why are they testing engine sound on BMW cars?
It was a exhaust decibel competition 👌🏼
Super impressive work mate! I bet you never thought you’d be fabricating such a large intricate panel and having it fit that well! Honestly hats off to you sir! As the saying goes, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Keep up the hard work and you’ll be there in no time 👏
Thanks Matt! Would love to do it full time and restore more minis
Beautiful repair on that shock mount part mate 💪🏻
Lovely tidy repair there mate, didn’t realise how much rust you’d dealt with, plenty of videos for me to catch up on now 👌🏻
I reckon you should have yours there next year Kev!
The Lotus turned off before it got embarrassed
How many gears
@@peterashdown5499 4 straight cut ✂️ very loud 👌🏼
Used this added charcoal for color to fix a chipped bowling bqll works great
This helped me out today 👍, cheeky cut at 2:45 had me stuck on how to finally remove though. Got there in the end! Thanks. Ps cant believe this is 3 years ago!
Brilliant welding as usual Kev. Is that all the rust gone now? 😎
@@markdraper7 apart from the doors but I am not sure if I will reskin them, just need to start putting on the front end which I know will be difficult
@@PocketRocketGarage, If there is even a slight rust bubble on the doors then re=skin them. Once you take the old skin off you'll see some other repairs needed on the frames! Front end is much simpler with a spot welder, you must know someone close to you that can lend you one.?
Great work Kev.Thank god mine had the scuttle done previously or I would have put it back on EBay and not bothered.
Getting good with the welder Kev monkey
Thanks! I have had plenty of practice!!!
Nice weld
Great work, Kev!
Thanks ✌🏼
Good idea cutting up the old seal to test fit the glass, I wish I had held onto mine so I could do the same.
Yeah it gave me the confidence to start the welding! Thanks for watching
Well done mate. I love how simple you make it, it’s not complicated just hard work and dedication and a hell of a lot of time doing what you do best. Your knowledge and understanding of metalwork is next level. I definitely feel inspired to give that sort of thing a crack again, using your videos as a good reference to things that are easily over looked. Well done mate 🙂
Dude thanks for the kind words! I think if I did another project I would probably do it a bit differently but it’s great to learn the skills as I go!
Very impressive Kev !
Thanks Rich, would love to have a unit to do it more often!
Quality work it has to be said!
Thanks! It’s all a big learning curve but I really enjoy it
@@PocketRocketGarage Proper restoration is preserving what is there not replacing everything, that is why you are getting it right 👍
Thanks! I’d like to do a mk1 next with some subtle detailing
Good man. Kevin Big leap getting them done
Thanks John, time to fit the front end finally!!
Inspiring us wildly less accomplished people out here to learn these impressive fabrication skills! Thanks.
@@mattsmichiganmini1877 it’s definitely been a learning curve! Thanks for the kind comments
Great job with sorting the scuttle out and making sure the screen will fit back in when it’s been painted. It’s coming along nicely. A lot less rust left in the car now.
@@recreativesigns4571 I just can’t believe how well the car was hiding so much rust!!
@@PocketRocketGarage I know the feeling. My Mini Thirty has the usual areas of rust visible on the outside and it’s only when you take bits off you see more areas. Pesky rust gets everywhere. Still it’ll soon be gone and only new metal taking its place. Thanks Richard
Looks very convincing to me. It looked brutal when you cut out the rusty section but you did a stellar job fabricating the new part: well done and best wishes.
Really useful video. I cut my over sills off some time ago. This has encouraged me to get back into it rather than be daunted.
Keep going at it, I’m not sure if I knew what I was letting myself in for but 1 section at a time
I used rainex many years on my mpi mini when I went isle of white... drivers window wiper came off... swapped with passenger wiper used rainex..... I still have the bottle now 😂
It’s a great product, I use it on the door windows and mirrors to keep them clear too. I must say it’s not as good as rain wizard, but that’s no longer available. 😂
Good to know!
Was it just me or not? I was expecting to hear a beep of the horn and then a cuppa appear at the drivers door window. Another great video showing just how well that stuff works. I’m sure it will increase sales of the product now we’ve got to see it in action.
Another great video from the guys at pocket rocket Used rainex years ago on my motorbike and racing visors and just brought myself a bottle to do our fleet of cars 10 4 good buddy
Looks great man. I have to do my mini soon. Cheers mate for all the advise. Dave Cape Town sa
Thanks for watching Dave! Hope you enjoy the channel
I have only just started to watch your mini restoration videos and I have to say they are the best I have watched so far on RUclips and look forward to seeing more of your work. I personally think you are doing a great job considering the limitations of your space and equipment, but then it just goes to show what you can do when you have both natural talent, skil and determinationl. I am being inspired by you to make a better job of my restorations.
Dude thanks so much for the kind words, glad you like the videos, I never know if they come across well or not….. ✌🏼
Nice puddles
The sweet sound of mig welding 🙌
flap disc?
Probably flap disc you're better off with sanding discs. Much smoother finish for cars then flappy discs
6mm grinding disc, way more control and no digging into the surrounding material 👍🏻 give it a try!
@@southpawhopkins6400 I can only imagine what it must be like to have air tools with grinders and orbital sanders…… maybe 1 day
Nice one Kev.
Great work on the repairs Kev!😎
Just great!? 😁 thanks mark, especially with the help on the shock mount 👍🏻
Wow there is alot of layers behind that. Some tasty welds there looks seemless
Thanks, it went really well to be honest
You are really mastering the welding Kev. Nice work.
Thanks 👍
Another great job 👏 well done super patch making skills
Thanks again! The bulkhead will be a lot of work but I’m looking forward to getting rid of the rust
Nice work Kev !
Thanks Rich, any update on yours?
How did you manage to do those repair patches with no cups of tea through the window ? Best wishes.
I know! I will get the doorbell going on the next video for sure
Excellent work. What a great transformation. The way you template, cut, shape and weld the metal into place is a joy to watch.
Love a bit of masking tape to shape a patch love a seemlees repair so hard to do thought
Thank you very much!
Great work Kev.
Thanks! Hope yours is going well
can i use this one on wireless drill?
Yes I imagine so, I dint think it will have as much go but it’s worth a shot, downside is it will drain the battery pretty quickly, a decent corded drill 2nd hand will be cheap as everyone uses cordless now so worth a look
I need some advice , hoping you can help , I have spent the last 4 years trying to rebuild a 66 barn find mini van , just about got there only to find the doors will not fit properly , it looks as though the front end has dropped by about an inch , is there any way I can jack it back into place , mind you all work is outside on the drive . Thanks Jerry
How has it dropped? Are you sure the A panel and front end are in the correct place? Did you fit the front end whilst having the subframe in place?
