Добавлен 18 июл 2023
Since 1929, the Institute of Race Relations has advocated for a free, fair, and prospering South Africa. At the heart of this vision lie the fundamental principles of liberty of the individual and equality before the law guaranteeing the freedom of all citizens. The IRR stands for the right of all people to make decisions about their lives without undue political or bureaucratic interference.
Why is there no water in Bethal and Emzinoni? The mayor and residents tell us.
On 2 December 2024, the IRR travelled to Mpumalanga to investigate the disruptions to water supply which deprive residents of water and escalate these issues to the Mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality.

thank you for making a potentially boring subject, completely mind numbing.
You can't take anyone's property with due process and compensation.
Take elons house and give him nothing
Love to hear it from my own people but I fear others think it's going to be a good time not understanding history and not wanting to understand.
There is no guarantee that they will pay you what your home is worth.
Investors will not come. The land law is wrong. And the SA belong to New York SA been sold out for millions that must be paid back in 2052 😮....wake up.
This was an excellent discussion revealing a great deal about municipal issues. Thankyou
Whiteys must have been pretty exasperated to burn tyres😂
President Ramaphosa should be spending more time in South Africa sorting out his Government ministers making sure the do their work properly, fighting the crime, corruption and money laundering and giving credit to the GNU instead of grand standing on the world stages boosting about what the ANC Government has done in the last 30 years and begging for finance from the wealthy nations. All he has achieved is to drive any investor away with all the stupid acts that he has put in place over the recent months.
Excellent. I shall be sharing this. Well done. Keep fighting the good fight.
Thank you Chris!
If speech is not free, it's no longer alive, but succumbs to mere mechanical reproduction.
The South African government's taking sides with Palestine is, I think, completely historically rooted, hinging on Bishop Desmond Tutu's alignment with Yassar Arafat, just as their loyalty to Mugabe was historically motivated, out of loyalty to tight friendships with Anti-Apartheid activists during the Struggle years. And yes, the issue is the paradigm of Colonial Oppression, a narrative which protects the victim, as if it were a child with no choice whatsoever, from any responsibility for involvement in existing human conflict.
The 'either-or' situation is, in my feeling, exactly the root problem. Neither side acknowledges the right of the other to exist in that part of the world, despite the fact that there is enough water, land and food for all involved - as Yuval Harari pointed out at the Frankfurt Book Fair last year. He highlighted his view that the conflict is a MENTAL problem, inside the human brain, not an objective one.
What a fantastic talk!
Herman I've been following and financially supporting IRR for many years and I've heard this message of "what South Africans really want" from your opinion poles. But I must admit I no longer give those polls much weight when it comes to true principles and values held by people because it simply does not align with what I see in the votes. There may truly be a general sense of optimism and renewed hope by many (including myself) because of the greater distribution of political power. But I don't see a significant shift in voting.. most of the ANC's vote loss has just been a reallocation to more explicitly radical parties, first the EFF and most recently MK. If I add up ANC, EFF and MK and looks like people still vote pretty much the way the voted 10 years ago. I suspect many South Africans are very politically correct when responding to surveys and polls but I don't see that translating to making different political decisions in the broad.
Communist for sure. I had no idea about the CPA existence
Listening to the recording. Rather disturbing this information is.
Thank you for all your work for South African poetry, Elisa. Let's hope 2025 brings happier news.
The ANC doesnt support the other international victim. ..Ukraine so they are practising a selective justice
Speech as a weopon to bludgeon your oponent is no longer rational or civilised and will not result in an improved mutual understanding
I wonder if any individual coplained or if this wasnt a cowardly committee decision. But who ever they were this shunning is a disgusting way to treat anyone whatever their religion or politics or gender etc etc
I don't think this even deserves a book... it's been public knowledge since the 1920s
If these polls are true, explain to me why people vote against them
Yeah man agreed.
Very insightful in this era of cancellations and refusing to hear anything disliked
No, obviously
Technology is taking over no more physical labor 60% of work force is already eliminated
Thanks for this video. The economy is so discouraging. I need some optimism :)
It's a laudable concept and something sure needs to be done to assist the millions of citizens who cannot afford healthcare BUT the way it stands now is totally unworkable unaffordable and those in power wanting to implement it simply cannot be trusted - too much corruption, they're too inept and too simplistic and without forethought or sufficient expertise to properly plan and administrate something so complex. FIRST FIX THE EXISTING STATE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM! PROVE to us that can be properly, efficiently run using the MINORITY's tax money and then we can move forward! And let's not forget our constitutional rights... ?
When you drop your standards you are lost. Because of politics and cost I know kids who were 6 distinction kids who are going to small education colleges and doing great.
Very little hope
Hence SHELL leaving SA and other companies leaving....
Beware of the hard-left Woke communist culture. It's dangerous. Woke aims to drive white people and black people apart. Scorecards for Woke are bad.
Very informative & enlightening discussion! Thanks for your insights.
EFF? Zuma?
Prosecuting people for hate speech might itself inflame passions and incite hatred. So this could backfire badly
Some gov ministers and lawyers have shouted at critics to shut up. Maybe that is what this is about
With 11 languages people will be offended by speech they misunderstood and where offence eas not intended at all.
How long ito months/years before phase 4 of economic and social collapse?
Whatever said rsa is traumatized, under huge unnatural stresses, our people are very resilient, but for how long,as many just feel its not worth risk and effort as there is no chance of return or progress, few are fortunate to be aligned they will prosper
Yet no one takes responsibility for rsa mass emmigration, this alone has crippled our nation, itll take many years to rebuild ,if its at all possible,we ll carry on sliding sideways and back, such a pity
intro song kinda cool
Glad your voice held out because this was a very interesting rich presentation 😊
MK is trying out the Moses Manoeuvre! Question: Why did Moses, of the Bible, lead the Israelites for 40 years through the barren desert? Whereas the distance between Egypt and Palestine can be travelled in only 2 weeks? Answer: Moses wanted to be IN CONTROLL! Explanation: Moses knew the desert conditions so well that he, as leader, could 'call the shots' and the Israelites obeyed him. He realised that he would lose controll as soon as the group entered the fertile 'promised land' of which he knew nothing! To remain in controll he deceived the group and kept them 'captured' in the barren desert for 40 years! Zuma, and many other African 'strugglers' are emulating Moses. They keep their naive followers 'captured' in the 'liberation struggle' ... only for themselves, to stay in controll. Mugabe and his comrades, kept Zimbabwe in the 'desert' of violence, poverty and starvation from 2080 untill 2024 ... to satisfy their own 'lust for power'. In SA the ANC did the same ... they kept SA in the desert' of racial conflict, violence, poverty and starvation for 30 years. Zuma got away with the 'Moses manoeuvre' in 2009 ... and is now trying to 'pull' the same trick on the unsuspecting, naive voters. Just imagine where South Africa could have been NOW if we skipped the past 30 'lost', struggle years by electing leaders that know how to govern the 'promised land' of democratic South Africa? Let's get rid of the backward 'strugglers' ... or they will keep SA in the 'desert' for another 30 years.
Brilliant analogy
Many thanks for this interesting and useful presentation Ivo, and Nick for hosting.
FanTAStic show! Why isn't this being discussed more publicly? I want to shout it from the rooftops! Sharing far and wide... Please get yourselves onto talk shows, make MUCH louder noise! Our poor beleaguered country needs voices like this SO badly! Thank you so, so much, and every success going forwards! I'm totally in your corner!
Good to have a clear explanation of the IRRs voucher idea. Thankyou. This all sounds very positive. Has any of the political party's espoused these ideas?
