Franz Biebl - Ave Maria (Angelus Domini)
Though he was a choral conductor, church music director, and university instructor, German composer Franz Biebl (1906-2001) is perhaps best remembered for his Ave Maria. So successful was the piece that after composing the original choir version, he went on to arrange it for two more entirely different mixed voice configurations.
The text is a stunning quotation from the Angelus prayer. The antiphonal-style treatment of the Ave Maria between the soprano/alto and tenor/bass creates a natural dialogue between the voices: with each statement by the lower voices, we receive an echo from the upper voices. The piece reaches a high point in the Sancta Maria, brought to a brilliant, soaring concl...

Simplesmente magnífico 🎉🎉
This song is simply magnificent and moving. 🎉🎉
What a joy to watch and hear. Yes, an unusual texture. Thank you.
Please continue the marvelous music so everyone can enjoy your brilliance! 😍
Fabulous sonority and emotion. This is of the highest quality.😊
I am blown away. Very polished .
Wonderful tone and blend!
Simply magnificent and memorable 🎉🎉
A wonderful rendition of this wonderful song
Architecturally, this composition is supreme, with h it‘s timeless phrases, and textual feeling. This has to be a stupendous composition of Byrd.
Thankyou for singing this female work- fabulously sung;a real gem!
Bravo!
Nice work!
Such a humble and fine delivery from the presenter. Thankyou for a lovely rendition of silent night. 😊
Beautifully interpreted, with a timeless feeling. Congratulations on a superb performance! 😍
Would be interesting to learn something about the organ. And where is it? I assume it is based on the classic baroque principal chorus, with the Hauptwerk on the bottom manual. The English organs with their diapasons are not ideal for Bach's compositions.
Hi Hans - thanks for the question! This organ is in Toronto, Canada here at St. Basil's Catholic Parish and is built in the French Romantic style by Casavant. The organ is equipped with a Great/Choir transfer which allows the organist to play the Great division on the bottom manual.
@@basilstoronto So I got that totally wrong! I assume that the French Romantic style is even further away from the baroque German style. Here in New Zealand most organs are in the English style based on a diapason chorus. Only a handful of organs here have a principal chorus (which I miss). Anyway, your organ sounds great, a good complement to your playing.
Tuning: 0c: A4 = 440Hz
Merci mille fois.
Well spoken- it is truth.
Great tempo choice ! 😊 loved the performance !
hervorragend, sehr ausdrucksstark, herrliche Dynamik und Spannungsbögen, sehr gute Stimmen. Vielen Dank aus Deutschland!
Had no idea this redoubtable lady had written motets as well as the March of the Women … what amazing harmonic language she could command …a real late Romantic and a real discovery …thank you!
She was all across the board; chamber works, choral, orchestral, opera, piano solo...you name it! I particularly like her Mass in D as well :)
Never thought a there’d be a rendering of this twinned piece to compare with Voces 8 … but this has more of a liturgical feeling to it …essential, as it’s not a concert piece … thank you!
Stunning job!
I beautiful rendition, I agree
Beautiful performance
Thank you!🌷
Really great performance! I don't know how organists accomplish that 3-part polyphony in the Fugue! Great pedal-work, excellent registration choices. Nice one-foot 4ths in Fantasia! Nice organ and excellent acoustics in this chapel. (from Canada)
It's actually 4-part harmony.
This was wonderful
Exquisite❤
Absolutely amazing!!!
Luminous.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful...
The most beautiful interpretation of Rheinberger´s Abendlied I´ve ever heard!
This is not the original version, so it is difficult to compare it to other interpretations. I do admit that is beautifully sung, though.
Immaculately executed, with a beautiful blend and balance. Well Done!
8 singers for 6 parts, I’m curious which ones were doubled
All 4 parts were doubled, as the description says which groups them in pairs. Though the original is written in six parts and contrary to the impression that there ARE singers singing on their own (because they are standing distant and the camera isolates them!), they are singing a reduced score of just four parts which preserves all beginnings of the six parts but omits some filling or even bass notes and thereby simplifies the harmonies. @@MrMoguer Hi there! Both sopranos were on the soprano 1 part and the altos were split. Likewise, tenors were split (as in the original) and basses were doubled. It's an immensely gratifying piece to perform and I'm glad I was able to do so with this great ensemble.
Thank you for this lovely singing.
Sehr sehr schön!!!!
Прекрасне виконання, вітаю!В деяких місцях не було добре чутно бас, в тому числі в останньому акорді не вистачає нижньої фа
Это потому, что они поют четырехчастную версию.
Wie schön ist das denn gesungen. Ich bin begeistert. Danke für die wundervolle Musik.
Super!😊
Beautiful.
Danke für die schönen und klaren Melodien zum Abend
