Take the aluminium framed one, refit the gearstick, correct saddle and long sissy bar and you've got the ultimate Chopper.
Some people do !! It’s a shame Raleigh didn’t make one like you are suggesting
My first proper bike was a Raleigh Palm Beach with 3 speed Sturmey Archer gears. I was quite happy with it, My mate Gordon had the Chopper but they weren't built for speed and it was annoying on rides as I had to keep stopping for him to catch up....
The chopper was about looking cool back in the day, thanks for sharing your memories
The mk2 had a squared off front light fitted as standard, as the mudguards are squared off too, the rear light was different as well. i didnt know the stems were different lengths though, you live and learn. also how do you get on finding brake shoes for them, as i think they had drum brakes on the rear if i remember correctly.
They certainly do have the drum brakes on the rear on the later models the pinch caliper style does require brake blocks , I resource from scrap bikes still better than modern ones
@@IconicBrands123 Scrap ones must be few and far between now. Great little bikes though. Remember getting mine like it was yesterday, i still cycle regularly to this day but the bike with the fondest memories is still my RSW mk2. I loved that little bike.
Now i know mine was deffo a mark one(mustard / yellow. ) i loved and rode the hell out of it 😊😊😊😊!!
Worst bicycle ever invented. It was just a posing aid for kids who wanted an eastrider motorbike.
YEP , AND AS A 11 YEAR OLD back then it was awesome
Of course it was, that was the point , setting a kids imagination free. Happy memories on mine, despite coming off a skinning my knees 😄. Did we complain… nah. Got back on it and carried on.
As a life long serious cyclist you are correct, it was never intended for regular cycling over any distance. Apart from Paddy, well done Paddy!
This 1966 RSW Compact is a beautiful bike! Where did you buy the tires?
Thanks for your comment , the tyres were purchased at a Raleigh show and shine event that included parts
Good work as always ,good advice about the Mk 3 and a very accurate description of them

A very interesting video you gave lots of information out 😊
Thanks 🙏
Agree that it's great that Raleigh are selling another batch. Still disappointing they are only selling to addresses in the UK and not making parts available. Also agree that the Chopper is opening a new market and not just for nostalgic market. I'm amazed they are not selling into the rest of the world market.
@@gregpetterson thanks for bringing this to my attention I’ve not mentioned anything about not selling the bike to the rest of the world !!! Another question to ask and another opportunity missed
I'm the TSSC 13/60 Reg Sec and was trying to find information regarding the Tristan Conversion....i see from your video that you have the original leaflet. I am trying to find out if the kit used the original roof fixings or some modification was needed. Does the leaflet having the fitting instructions at all? If so would you be willing to send me an electronic copy of the leaflet. Many thanks Darren

@IconicBrands123 that's brilliant, thank you....🙏
@@darrengroves9 please supply e mail address iconic brands
Like many, I missed out on having a Chopper as a child. I'd still quite like one as a nostalgia purchase but it is severely over-priced at £999. I can't really see the Chopper ever being a big seller for Raleigh. Once "old kids" like myself have satisfied their nostalgia urges, that's pretty much it. The company are trying to maximise profit per unit. It's a novelty purchase and whether we like it or not, limited supply maintains demand
@@ThePedroDB There is a batch of Raleigh Choppers coming up for sale soon , maybe this is the way the company will market this product.
@@IconicBrands123 do you mean another batch to follow the current Fizzy Lemon/Space Blue release? If so, more details please
@@ThePedroDB VIDEO SOON !
Great video! I just bought a unrestored Raleigh RSW Compact today here in Norway and i'm going to keep my bike unrestored except for installing some new original tires on it that came with the bike. Do you know how to find out what year my bike was made?

@IconicBrands123 Ok thanks, i've watched a lot of your videos about these bikes and i really like how great bikes these Raleigh's are. I can't wait to get my bike on the road.
What a lovely way to remember her father, nice of you to help out. 🙂
Broke my arm freewheeling down a long steep hill on a mk1. Massive speed wobble and about a 30 foot slide… aah, happy memories.
I love the album A New World Record! Coming from me, a 14 year old boy from Florida!
All they have to do is bring the bmx original burners back out
Thank you you are so right Raleigh have missed so many opportunities its unbelievable and now in the hands of assets equity firm on the brink of bankruptcy
accel dont own raleigh anymore they are owned by kkr who bought up all thee other bike companies accel owned
Thanks for the info will look into it hopefully the new owners will breathe life back into the Raleigh
Accel are owned by an equity company to clear accel debts
If spares are an issue surely if people can keep mk2's on the road and the parts are interchangeable with mk4's & visa versa why is there anymore of an issue with spares for mk4's than there is for mk2's if they're interchangeable. Some comments say get a good mk2 instead. Has anybody seen the prices they're half as much again.
Its true mk2 commands a higher price its ironic that if the mk4 interchangeable parts were more readily available this would bought the prices of the original mk2 down . The mk2 is worth more in parts than selling as a whole bike , crazy but seen many owners break them when selling them on
Funny how Raleigh have turned off the comments section of only 3 videos on their RUclips channel. These 3 video's are about Choppers. I think we all know why🤡
well i emailed them a few months ago and asked, where your parts service, wheres your merchandise, wheres your outlets.... i got no reply!
No surprises there. If you look at their youtube channel, guess what they have turned off the comments section for just the 3 video's related to choppers. Probably were sick of us sticking it up to them🤣
Totally agree with you. A year ago Jason Boness of Raleigh spoke about the development of the MK4. This was fantastic with all the promises of interchangeable parts for all Choppers. I see that Jason still works for the company but I'm sure he is just as disappointed as we are. Lets give Raleigh the award for the DUMBEST Management and Marketing of the decade! Link to Jasons interview ruclips.net/video/UYUrB7WW7Wc/видео.htmlsi=_O8ktPHYsDPAuBCT
Jason’s a design engineer, and part of a team As for the project he must be bemused by what’s happening to the way it’s being implemented to the public. This bike sold literally millions around the world at the start of production in the early days of the 1970s great idea but shameful management
@@IconicBrands123 Reminds me of Apple and Steve Jobs, he had a passion in pushing the team to create amazing products and sometimes was not interested in the bottom line but it paid off. When they fired him Apple suffered, but when he returned the company was a success again. The original Management on the Chopper project would be calling the new Management clowns🤡.
If they had flooded the market, I believe the demand for them would have dropped and Raleigh would have been left with a high volume of unsold bikes. As for the bike, I think they did a good job and I'm still very happy with mine. Regards the parts situation I agree with you, a huge missed opportunity. Good to analyise the situation. I was quite surprised that they even went ahead with making a new Chopper in the first place. It's all about making big profits these days for cheap junk. On a walk around the local tip, I often see plenty of bikes, just a few years old. It is clear that Raleigh put a lot of effort into the MKIV, and I believe it is more of a handbuilt low volume bike.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, the original Choppers mk1 & mk2 sold well over a million units
Watched your last 2 videos both are very interesting and have lots of information on the Raleigh well done worth watching 😊
Much appreciated 😊

Thanks for this information, seems like you have summed it up well. I'm shipping a MK4 (first batch) from the UK to Australia as it's the only way I could get one. Quality issues and all I think it's worth the risk. Regarding price, I agree it's higher than it should be. But if you wait, who knows Raleigh may just never bring out another batch which wouldn't surprise me. It all comes down to what price you put on nostalgia. If you dreamed of owning a NEW Raleigh Chopper as a child. You can now fulfil your dream even if it's at a high price and a risk of poor quality👍
Who knows it could be a limited edition permanently, thanks for sharing your own views
All good valid points you make however I wonder just how finite the demand is beyond the nostalgic hype buyers (of which I am one). This may be the real reason for the limited stop start production that in reality demand is not strong enough. There are lots of examples of boxed bikes that are selling on eBay for around the RRP and taking a lot of time to sell. This is how I bought one.
@@tomcraig8027 That’s an interesting point you have made thank you . I’ve found a lot of people would not pay the rrp I believe that extra volume will help make these bikes better and more affordable

@anthonyyarwood I’m shortly filming a video on this very topic which tries to explain the current situation with regards Raleigh
@@IconicBrands123 Sounds good, I'll be watching this, I've had to buy a Mk4 secondhand in the UK and ship it to Australia. It's an expense not everyone can afford. It's the only option you have if you really wont one in Australia.
Well if you are on the Solway coast, then you don't need an e bike, although wind can be a bastard.
you forgot about the adjustable handlebars on the mk1 and also the shape of the chrome tube behind the seat and if memory is correct, the disc on the back wheel was changed from chrome steel to aluminum ,

@@IconicBrands123 Ok thanks for your information. Sorry to moan I will look at it again. Many thanks.
Please tell me what I'm missing as I can't work it out. Raleigh put a lot of time, effort and expense into the Mk 4. Why are they only selling online once a year to the UK market and allow them to be all bought up then resold at crazy prices ? Any ideas why they don't sell and distribute them world wide? Thanks for any answers you may have. Love your Chopper videos by the way🙂
@@gregpetterson The reason why is to create demand by creating new retro colours and maximise profit by not using retailers Quality Control has been an issue for a while also holding back sales
@@IconicBrands123 Thanks for this info. OK so do you think they are purposely holding back on having them available to order at anytime until they fix the quality control issues? I live in Australia so sounds like it will be sometime before they will be available here. I guess thats why I cannot find the new Chopper parts Raleigh said they were going to be selling. Nothing on their website.
@@gregpetterson The answer is yes, the company has been badly mismanaged for years. The mk4 is a great idea product and the attention to detail fantastic just let down by trying to do it on the cheap and charging top notch prices If they get their act together maybe they’ll make more bikes in the future
@@IconicBrands123 Thanks for your reply. OK I get your analyzation and understand, such a shame for an 'Iconic 🤣' brand. I sent them a message days ago but they say it takes them 3 days to rely to an email. Cant blame the poor employee's they are probably understaffed. In this day and age 3 days! wow really unacceptable in this on line world. At this rate by the time they get their act together to make more for other countries a lot of their target market will be to old to ride a bike🤣.
I see that these bikes ar being sold on e-bay for £2000 !! Hate these scalping scum. By making it a limited release Raleigh have handed money over to thieving scalpers. Selfish idiots.
That is one beautiful machine!

Great video. I agree, the Mk3 bikes are in some ways underrated, yet not particularly high quality bikes. They are fun to ride, and certainly a lot lighter than the originals. I would love a Chrome one like that, they look absolutely stunning 😍. I currently have 4 Mk3s, although at one point I went a bit mad and had 7. 🤣 I've got a 6 speed 'Red Hot One' and a 6 speed black and gold 'JPS', both in immaculate condition, another slightly tattly red 6 speed which gets ridden, and a 'Neon' 3 speed which I also ride. I regret selling the others, but I have far too many bikes/trikes and not enough room for them. 😁
