OSMO Action 1 Budget Setup

What's up guys? This video is about the OG Dji OSMO Action, which might be one of the best deals within cameras right now (July 2024). I picked one up to use for motovlogs and pov photography vids. But it also works great as a budget youtube camera. Thanks for watching!

The Deity D4 Duo: Weird or Awesome Vlogging Mic
I got two of the Osmo actions original ones still working good use them to make fishing videos. I just bought the Osmo action 4 about five months ago,It's also great It has a few more features that I do like better..
I’m looking for a smaller tripod as opposed to my heavier video one but my t3i rig is too heavy for this
Surui makes a great one. I love my small rig one with the Swiss arca clamp though.
I just got a t3 off eBay and the quality is great so definitely good for youtube
Still use my T2i + 50mm Lenses + 18mm ...super Kit
I love my T3i i take photos not video and i downloaded some picture styles and iam having lots of fun with them especially the black and white picture styles.
Dude... love it. I still have my osmo action 1 and I agree that it's a sleeper. That sounded great too. Have you tried putting a little tension on the mic cord right at the base of the mic and tucking the cord in one of the grooves on the twisty part of the cold shoe tensioner (if that makes sense)? I don't have the deity duo, but I have the other small deity and it helps with the mic wobble and might be enough to keep it out of the shot? Using the trimmer was a solid tip, I'll have to try that too! Thanks man!
I do something similar. I’ve got a little bit longer cable from another mic that I use and use some Velcro straps to hold it into place. I also have another super cheap mic from pixel I use that actually does decent. But it’s in storage.
@@Travis542 Ha! yeah... I have gear scattered everywhere too. Thanks again!
It sounds ok
what's wrong with your j12?
Just didn’t like how it sounded.
Thinking of buying WM 20 as well. just because it c9mes with deadcat. :)
@francoisnikev the saramonic kit works great. But the little Hollyland kit that’s $50 right now has sounded the best of all the compact kits I’ve used. You gotta use cables though.
What’s the recording time on this cam. I need something for a long recording time .
You’d be better off getting a camcorder or something like a gh3. This has about a 10 minute limit,
@@Travis542 thanks Travis you just save me some money .
Hi do you know anything about the canon powershot sx30 is ? It looks like a nice camera for a long recording time .
@mannynunez2233 no it will only record for a few minutes. A GoPro hero 4 might be something to look at. You can get those cheap.
@@Travis542 yes Travis I got the go pro 10, but I need to do more for podcast indoor use. In front of a desk . Thanks for your info.
very nice review! This Osmo Action and the instago 2 are actually what I have been using to shoot my family trip videos, and I love em! Used to shoot with my mirrorless but for a father of 3, this camera is much much more compact and convenient to use ✅✅
Thanks!
Hey Travis! Hope you're doing good. Been shooting stuff with my friend's T3i the past year and finally bought myself a T4i. Fell on your page and found a lot of interesting info so Thanks for sharing your tips about the T3i. Was wondering how you got that glowy effect in this video here? It's pretty nice and have tried getting the same result with Gaussian Blurs on premiere pro, filming with my 18-55 lens but it doesn't really look the way I wish. Also bought a cheap Holga lens and I really like it however it's just not versatile at all since there's no zoom on it. Thanks -Simon
That’s a k and f concepts diffusion filter on a 24mm f2.8 lens, really cheap and good. I’d get the 1/8th.
Awesome 🔥💯👌 How can I win a free copy of the LUTs please.

Thank you! Nice hat
Jn the magic lantern forums you can found newer ml realease for t2i, but if anyone want to buy, try t3i is other chip processor and its magic lantern have more functions, even better eos m or t4i
Or t5i
Very useful, I was just using 0 sharpness
I also recently got one, i like it better than my gopro hero 9 although i wish the fov was much better
Wow that’s actually rly good for the price
Nice video... like you say..a lot stuff getting more cheaper after dji osmo 4 comes out..sounds still good..
This dude is great, I found a whole ass gopro hero 10 set for around like 30 bucks and it's often you find someone revisit old gopros so this video was just great, it raw and barely edited and shows what the gopro hero 10 video outputs look like
Thanks! Those are the videos I like to watch too. I can look at the specs online. But I want to see what the footage looks like when someone’s using the camera.
Im still using until now😂
I bought a bunch of stuff for mine lol. The neewer nd filters are more than half off on Amazon right now.
@@Travis542great choice!! Keep vloging about this action camera
Nice color under the shade. Mine is t2i. Trying to find a wide angle lens.
The 10-18 canon is a great one. I had a tokina 11-20 f2.8 that I wish I would’ve kept.
@@Travis542 oh thank you. is distortion low? I've read some of the reviews. Good canon lenses are still not cheap but low grade lenses are not that good with distortion when it comes to wide angle. TTartisan have a good one but they don't make them for dslr.
@SIBIRIAKcom the 10-18 has pretty bad distortion and vignetting. The tokina does not. They’re two different versions though. The newer atx-i is a better lens. There’s also the sigma 10-20 4-5.6. It can be bought super cheap but is a very soft lens.
I'm a film school student and I just ordered this camera as a first camera then I'll start upgrading slowly so I've been binging
Thank you for these videos. Your channel has convinced me to keep using my T4i for the foreseeable future.
I’d love to pick up a t4i or t5i to use crop mood magic lantern. I’m having fun with the t3i though for the time being. Thanks for checking my videos out.
I posted two comments but I guess they’re being held 😂
I saw that. What’s going on lol. It happened non stop on my other channel. I saw you said you made a short film with the t3i. If it’s the one from three days ago, that’s impressive!
@@Travis542 Yeap that’s it. Thanks. Your channel helped a lot!
This camera is a throwback
Thanks at the price I’ll pick one up. Do you have an Amazon link that you can earn some money from?
I don’t. I did that with my other channel and they don’t pay enough to even warrant setting it up. Check eBay too.
@@Travis542 thanks
Would this be a good camera for car photography? Thats what I mainly do and I’m not entirely sure what budget friendly DSLR would be a good option. I currently use a Nikon D70S and I’ve loved it but it’s falling apart and I want something I can also take video clips for car edits as well as good quality photos
If you’re shooting during the day yes. But this camera struggles with high iso situations. Also if the cars are moving, this has a very slow burst rate. But for daytime videos yes. I’ve actually done quite a bit of car and motorcycle photography with one and I enjoyed the photos a lot. If you’re doing a lot of video, save up for an sl2.
Thank you for all the work in this video. I have this camera with a 50mm 1.8 stm lens and works wonders! I'm searching everywhere for a good gimbal that goes with this combo, would you recommend me one?
Zyigun Crane V2. Just sold mine. Worked great. 99% chance I misspelled that lol. Don’t pay over $75 for one used. I sold mine to buy a newer version eventually.
I use a 128 San Disk running Magic Lantern. I need the space since I’m shooting a feature length film with my t3i and need it to hold enough info
I haven’t tried loading anything larger than a 32gb card because that was the recommended card size. I’m going to have to try it now with a larger card. Thanks for the comments!
Ohhhh... you're going to chase the T3I? Sir, I'm gonna SUBscribe. I'm a newbie and picked one up after trying the 10D and .... focusing is a female dog. So, with my limited resources I gotta T3I and that live view has made me a bit happier. I still have oodles of practice to do but... you are gonna be my GOTO.. for fun, frolic, and sometimes frustration I'm sure. Thank you .. just for being you. I'll even forgive the carhart. :) ROFLMAO! be safe, sir, peace.
Best one to start on in my opinion.
@@Travis542 Oh, well then. ROFLMAO! :) Now I just have to continue working on what to shoot... why, and what I have to say and how to translate it. If I was in Rojava it'd be so much easier.. *sigh*
Pretty cool
Just what I’m looking for. I’m working on a car restoration series and I want to get 3-4 cameras for my friends and I to use and not have to worry about. Thanks for sharing.
oh wow it looks exactly like my jvc. But its interlaced so it looks like garbage
Where was the comparison with the zv1f ?
The camera I started the video with was the zv1f
@@Travis542 ok will watch it again. Thanks
I use the zv1-f on for my channel. I love it. but the canon looks great too.
I wonder if it would make a good scope cam
Target cam yeah. Not sure if it’d focus through a scope.
@@Travis542 the zoom is something my cam lacks
Thoughts on this camera for motovlogging? Is there a way to use this on your chin mount on the helmet? Just starting out and don't have over 400 bucks on all items to spend on right now. Found this camera with 2 batteries on FB Marketplace and I just need your opinion on it. I plan on shooting at 1080p 30fps. Think viewers would like it. Please let me know! Thanks for the vid and new sub btw!
Oh yeah it would work great. I’d record audio separately on something like a zoom essentials h1.
There’s mounts available to mount it to the helmet.
@Travis542 thank you, going to look at it in person. For post production is it easy to use and combine both audio and video? What do you use for post production. I heard a motovlogger use cap cut on an iPad 🤦♂️😂
Not as bad as I thought it would be
the fact that an older camera like that can still put out that good of video in 2024, looks good on DJI, I recently got the action 4 and the video is comparable
Thanks for the comment! Do you like the osmo 4?
@Travis542 I do, only used it a couple times so far, one thing I like most is the compatibility with the wireless mic 2 transmitter
I got my T3i/600D for almost 5 years now, but only recently this year I've been actually looking into photography. Been getting some lenses and gone out and about taking pictures. I would love to learn more and your channel have helped me quite some too. ❤
It’s a great one to get started with!
I have the T3i with a 70-200mm F4L USM lens. Im doing Atv Moto photography. Im having trouble with shooting night motos. I really need help!
It’s got really bad low light performance. Maybe pick up a 50mm 1.4 or 1.8 and mount it to a tripod. But you’re going to be running a really slow shutter speed regardless, unless you use a flash.
@Travis542 thank you! I have been getting some good shots of the races before it gets dark around 4 ish, so the track has some shaded parts and some that get a lot of sun so some of my pictures are really bright or a little dark I'm happy with most of my pictures, but I feel like I can get better ones. I just can't figure out the best settings I'm using manual, and I do have an 18-55 mm lens I haven't tried
Are you using your histogram to expose at all? I normally set my iso at 200 or 400, set my aperture where I want it and expose with my shutter. I wouldn’t go any slower than 1/60 handheld. That’s gonna give you a ton of motion blur at 1/60. You’d probably get sharper photos running your shutter as fast as possible. For photography I can get away with running my iso higher than video. But not over 400. A good choice if you can find one is the 85mm usm too.
@Travis542 I will practice playing with my iso I had it set to 1600 😬
I got my t3i in October 2023. I’m loving it and I made my money back with one event already
My first lens! It paired wonderfully with my first DSLR, the Canon 7D! Now I use its slightly bigger brother, the EF 40mm F2.8, adapted with my Fuji GFX 100 ii, which for $100 is surprisingly good and somehow covers the whole medium format sensor with minimal vignette!
That’s probably my favorite photography lens. 40mm on a crop sensor at like f8 and manually focused makes for a super quick street photography setup. It’s been years since I’ve done that though.
What’s was your f-stop and iso on this?
Probably 3.5 and as low as I could get it with that amount of light. Something like 400. Anything over 400 the footage gets noisy.
@@Travis542 Thank you. I just acquired a kit lens and folks were telling me that to shoot inside I needed a ton of light and to raise the ISO to 1600. I want to shoot a simple scene like you have done here.
@@ReelMovieNetwork you’ll need a lot of light for sure. But 1600 won’t look very good. If you’ve got a good window that would be enough.
@@Travis542 thanks so much, Travis
end some up filters man!! those shots could be so much nicer. I still use a rebel t2i and have since 2009.
Yeah. That’s good enough.
a T3i in 2024 is absurd lmao.
It's going to be just as good as it ever was! Anyone with artistic vision will be able to make great things with it
@@lilaclizard4047 Absolutely not, specially for professional work.
Wow that’s very cheap! I always thought that trying to go professional with photography will cost a fortune. I’m considering getting some of this gear now. Great vid!
They’re the best and cheapest camera available in my opinion!
Awesome stuff
Thanks!
how is bokeh so good on your 18-55 lens
Just opened the aperture and hoped for the best lol.
