LOKI SEASON 2 EPISODE 1 REVIEW |REACTION
"Star Trek: The Motion Picture" clearly took some inspiration from "The Doomsday Machine" -although it failed to be even half as engaging and suspenseful as this low budget television episode.
I agree. This & the Changeling are pretty much combined into the story for Star Trek TMP
I'm disappointed that you didn't mention that the episode was inspired by Fred Saberhagen's Berserker stories. Fred Saberhagen's first short story about berserkers was "Without a Thought" (originally published under the title "Fortress Ship"), which appeared in 1963. This story introduced the concept of the berserkers - massive robotic machines programmed to destroy all life. The author himself attributed this episode to Fred's body of work, yet you've omitted him from the history of this episode. This is especially troubling as Fred's novel "Berserker" was released in January 1967, before "The Doomsday" script was produced. Fred Saberhagen is the creator of the ancient, long forgotten self replicating death machines genre, of which this episode is ripped from the pages.
All of the better STOS episodes were written by veteran Sci Fi authors. Doomsday,City and Shore Leave come to mind. The Doomsday Machine has fantastic scoring,Windom and Shatner chewing up scenes and a parallel in the real world of a possible Doomsday Machine, such as the USSR's Dead Hand and the Cobalt Bomb.
You bring up good points. It's a great episode and it's probably not the last time we'll discuss it
If your audio didn't sound like you were in a tiled, toilet paper tube, this might have been listenable.
First I heard that. Might it just be you're settings or equipment ?
It was one of my top 3 favorite episodes. I really like the remastered version even more.
One of the top 5 Star Trek episodes.
Seen the episode 100 times easily...I know EXACTLY how it ends..every time....Yet, Im STILL on the edge of my seat at the end.
"Gentlemen.......beam me aboard!"

My favorite line: "Don't you think I know that?!? There was, but not 'ny more!!" William Windom nailed that.
It's the most powerful guest performance in the original series even if Ricardo was great & reprised it in their greatest movie
@@SavingStarTrek I think I can get on board with that assertion.
It's 'wreak havoc' not 'wreck havoc.'
You've got to applaud the performance of William Windom as Matt Decker. He was great in that role.
💯
My favourite episode of Star Trek old or... was going to say new but nothing made in the last 15 years is worth watching!
In really glad you enjoyed it. Its an iconic episode. We did our best to do it justice
Relevance at the time was the cold war, nuclear weapons. Mutually assured destruction, its all insanity.
Music of Jaws, before Jaws.
Kirk pulled together after worse. David Killed in SFS, letting Edith Keeler die, in City on the Edge of Forever.

Minutes before I started listening, I learned we'd lost the great Tony Todd; RIP 🙏 Great show.
RIP Kurn!
👍✌🥃
Spock
Is it heresy to say I preferred the remastered episode with the updated special effects ? If so, then burn me at the stake, because I liked it better.
I gotta say I really enjoy both versions. The original is just amazing for its time
Good to see this great episode, which is 57 years old, getting so much love as of late! Star Trek will always attract new viewers who will fall in love with it!
Good day, all.
More videos like this please.
No Problemo! That's actually the goal. The Enterprise uploads are getting a lot of production now, but not really to this extent because I usually make one of those a week.
Great review; love all of the Jaws analogy.
Thanks buddy! I'm so glad you like it! You guys deserve the very best I can pull off.
It came out in the 60s at the height of atomic destruction paranoia, with talk of actual doomsday devices being a real possibility. There was much talk about both superpowers having them (Kirk even eludes to this in the episode....hence where the episode gets it's name). I'd say it very much had real world relevance, especially back then, but also today with the fear of us destroying ourselves with A.I. .
It's a lot of people's favorite
@@West_Kagle It turned out to be prophetic, but not as regards nuclear weapons, but as regards Marxism. The Soviet Union fell but its ideology still roams the planet eating nations.
Sorry to be pedantic but you wanted "alludes to" not "eludes to". Having said that I agree with your point. I was born in 1961 so didn't really appreciate ST:TOS until a few years after it was cancelled, but remember looking for "fallout shelter" signs when my family went shopping at places like the Lloyd Center shopping mall in Portland, OR during the years when ST:TOS was aired for the first time.
@@KurtisRader Yeah, I don't type or spell well. 😁
@@KurtisRader The building of the catholic school i wen to in the 70s had 'Fall Out Shelter' signs on them.

Kind of a shame that RUclips isn't what it used to be. Keep up the good work!
Thank you. we don't plan to change or knuckle under!
Another great guest performance by Jeffrey Combs. Archer continues to impress as a decent man caught between less decent adversaries.
He's great, again. It was time to have fun after the heaviness of Dear Doctor. They can only go that route just so often.
Sorry I couldn't join in today. Although to be fair , this is one of the weakest Enterprise episodes IMO. The revision of mind melds and the analogy to SA with TPol was both unnecessary and misconceived. Didn't need to go there .
Yeah, we found it hard to focus on and it became more about 'whats up with the Vulcans ?' at this point? It was a fun discussion, but we pretty much all disliked the episode
thanks everybody!

Ugh! No sign of futurism, not even retro-futurism. Looks like cosplay of a 90's street-crime/ martial arts drama.
i gotta agree. this really looks terrible
