Nice pictures of the falls. The last falls I'd call the black cascade falls. Car camping and photography are two things I've been interested in. I subscribed to the CheapRVliving channel for the first one and the Thomas Heaton channel for the 2nd one.
Moral of story...don't wait to do this life experience enjoyment until you retire.
Both horrible ideas,Don’t buy a boat or a camper,Financially terrible ideas,Stay in motels,Cabins,Rent a boat
They will go fast
Time is priceless, enjoy whatever time have left, no one cares about you cruel but true, no one avoids the inevitable !
$15,000 a month for a drug??
Yep. Some drugs are very expensive. Humira is like that.
Thank you for these wise words. I'm 64 here and every information on Medicare helps, so thank you!
Your welcome. I am a deep thinker sometimes
One thing that many people, likely including some viewers probably don’t know is in regard to whatever lettered Medi-Gap plan they choose to accompany their Medicare coverage. The big decision is to decide which Medi-Gap plan they want -Plan G, Plan, N, etc. There are coverage differences between the different lettered plans (says Plan G versus Plan N). BUT, whatever Medi-Gap lettered plan one chooses, that same lettered plan offers the identical in coverage as every other SAME lettered plan. Each Insurer (Mutual of Omaha, State Farm, etc,) who offers a lettered plan - it is the IDENTICAL lettered plan in terms of coverage, as every other Insurer who offers that same lettered plan. The price each Insurers charges is different - but the same lettered plan is the same identical plan in terms of coverage no matter who (insurer) buys it from. So each person has 2 real decisions to make: Which lettered plan they want to have for coverage. And Which insurer do they want to get it from. They can base their decision on price, insurer’s reputation, etc. But it is SO important to remember, Plan G or Plan N has the IDENTICAL same coverage as that same lettered plan with every single insuring company. Hope that makes sense. It would be so wonderful for all of this wasnt so complicated and if we were educated about it before approaching retirement! All the best to you and all!
Thanks for the comment. I found out that Plan N is a high deductible plan.
@ we both have Plan N - but it’s not a high deductible - each lettered plan is the same for every state, so I’m not sure how your Plan N is Hugh deductible? On Plan N, we pay a $20 copay for each office visit to a doctor (except for specialists, then no office copay is due). We pay a $20 copay whether we’ve met our Medicare annual deductible has been met or not. Once our annual Medicare deductible is met, then we pay nothing for any other medical charges - labs, office visit, X-rays, catscan, mri, etc.
@@papabear2515 Plan N also does not cover Part B excess charges. There was something really different when explained to me that he told me about Plan N and G. My wife has a Plan N and I know that her out of pocket expense could be alot higher than me on a Plan G. He told me that Plan N was designed for people that were still pretty healthy and didn't have alot of doctor visits or other health problems. I think that is the way I understood it.
@ oh, yes, the “excess” charges. You’re correct that is the only difference between the 2 plans. I e just never heard it referred to as a high deductible. However, that has never been an issue for us - even with my husband’s 2 surgeries (back surgery and knee surgery - the back surgery alone was was $38,000+) since we’ve been on Medicare. Both surgeons’ offices told us they’ve never encountered or charged any “excess charges” and they’ve been practicing for decades. One surgery was done when he was originally on Plan G a few years back and the other back surgery done this last year, when he was on Plan N. With neither plan did we ever encounter any “extra charges.” We’ve been very very pleased with both plans but switched to Plan N as the premiums were less for us and again, and no “extra fees/charges” being any issue. All of friends have our same Plan N and they’ve had many, many different medical issues including a wide variety of surgeons, emergencies, etc. for many years at various hospitals in the US - none have ever had any excess charges. If a person is concerned there might be excess charges, one way to deal with it proactively is to ask the provider and/or hospital about this in advance. They would know. Again, we’ve never encountered it nor has anyone we know. Again, everything is so unnecessarily complicated! It’s like a maze you’re trying to navigate regarding which plan works best for you! All the best to you!
I have the exact same timeline. 🙂
Congratulations
Thanks for video. We approach our groceries as a critical part of our health. Neither my wife or I are on any prescription meds (we are 72 and 68). Because we see our groceries/eating as so important to our health, we buy nothing pre-prepared in boxed, mixes, etc. We also don’t buy or eat junk food or take out/fast food. We also do eat no sugar or sweetener of any kind. It’s stunning to actually read food labels - almost all pre-prepared items have sugar or some kind of sugar/sweetener. Just awful! And has such a negative impact on everyone’s health. All of the above things fir us are real cost saving too! Our gas in the Pacific NW, is around $3-3.50/gallon. We have family in Tennessee. All the best!
I appreciate what you’re going through so close to your retirement date. I expect to retire in under five years; looking to learn from others before I walk out the door for the last time.

33 years at the same place it took about one hour to get used to retirement. Don't sweat the little things, take your time, things always work out. I also enjoy photography, plan my day around it but if things change who cares I'm retired.
Look, as long as you have money you’ll be ok. There’s nothing more to it.
It’s critical for Medicare-eligible individuals to select optimal plans to reduce the likelihood that lack of coverage would prevent smart health care utilization choices, not only for their health outcomes, but also to help keep health care spending in check.
In my opinion, enrolling in medicare isn’t just a way to get health care coverage when you turn 65, it’s also a major part of ensuring financial security during retirement. Individuals can seek counsel from a certified financial advisor, who can provide specialized advice and methods to decrease expenses and maximize income.
It's unfortunate most people don't have such information. I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than $800,000 by investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Doesn't matter if the economy is misbehaving; great wealth managers will always make returns.
I think this is something I should do, but I've been stalling for a long time now. I don't really know which firm to work with; I feel they are all the same but it seems you’ve got it all worked out with the firm you work with so i surely wouldn’t mind a recommendation.
Certainly, there are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with Kathie Daisy Bosco for about three years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
Kathie has the appearance of being a great authority in her profession. I looked her up online and found her website, which I reviewed and went through to learn more about her credentials, academic background, and employment. She has a fiduciary duty to protect my best interests. I sent her an email outlining my objectives and also booked a session with her; thanks for sharing.
I guess everyone has different ideas for retirement, which makes sense. All I know for sure is what I have done since I retired. I am 76 and retired in 2013. I have no "boredom" problems, for sure. Since retirement, I have started 2 LLC businesses and 1 DBA business. Plus, I have several hobbies, including photography. My DBA, for example, is something that I never even thought about until I retired. I taught myself how to sell things on eBay. Not only am I getting "stuff" out of our house, but I am also keeping things out of the landfill. Since I started, I have made several thousand dollars, which I've spent on camera equipment and other hobbies. So, retirement didn't mean quitting a job; it meant starting a new one and being totally in charge of my own schedule. And, by treating the various things that I do like they are business ventures, I get a bunch of business-related expenses written off too! Retirement can be a blast!!
I have taken quite a few classes online thru a senior learning community called "Get Set Up". Many classes are free, and I was able to sign up and can take all the classes for free thru a state program for senior learning. They have all sorts of classes from the arts, cooking, medical issues, how to use your phone, computer classes and so on. Check it out, I like that I can take the class at home and don't have to drive to town to audit a class at the local CC.
I worked for a large utility company for 27 1/2 years one day they decided to close the Nuclear Power Plant down permanently. I got a retirement and severance package at 55 years old form the company. I couldn’t believe how lucky I am and I picked up a new hobby”it’s spending my daughter’s inheritance” it’s got to be the hardest thing to do. My mental and physical health has improved and I sleep every morning until my body is rested. Living the dream
A hobby is an absolute must. Going to the gym, or daily walks are good for the body and mind. Going fishing or playing golf with buddies once and a while can help break up the everyday routine.
Such good and practical thoughts about retirement!
I left a job and several years later got a call from a man whose name sounded familiar but I couldn't immediately place him. Turns out he was an executive from that small company I had left, just calling to see how I was doing. I was embarrassed that he had to remind me who he was. But from then on I will never forget his thoughtfulness.
it's great that you're thinking about all these thing BEFORE you retire... i retired a few years ago and here's the one thing that was real hard for me.... the first couple of weeks of "not having a job"... i really thought about going back to work just because i didn't have a job... it was a "culture shock" and i really felt abnormal but i just past that after a couple of months (even still after about 5 years, i'll still get a feeling about it but then i'll laugh it off)... anyway, glad you're talking about this cause the guys that are working and struggling to get to where you got can get some honest talk about it... that's important
I tried early retirement and fell apart after 1 week. Ended up with 60 hours free time and still got 6 hours of housework. Gave up staring at the wall and went back to work. Now I got the same old working stiff life. It's terrible, but at least I'm not staring at the wall
@@vuho2075 yeah... the staring at the wall is not healthy... i got through it by building chicken co-ops and such (small jobs for people that didn't have the ability to do themselves)
Hi Ron, how are you?
We keep in touch with only 3-4 people that we worked with, out of 50-60, and we chat and catch up with them only about 2-3 times a year. It took us a little time to find a new routine, but we have, and you will too. At first, you're going to go hog wild on projects around the house but then you'll settle down and relax a little between the projects. Being able to take care of shopping and other business during the hours that you would normally be at work is Great! Your gonna love it.
Good video, Ron! There is a lot to think about. I have about 4 years to go.
Same
I retired 63 home paid off 2 cars paid off social security and a state pension. I love it.
Retirement is fabulous! Everyday is truly a gift … get up when you want, go to bed when you want, do what you want when you want, start new adventures, hobbies, etc. I can tell you, it’s never felt boring or monotonous to me - not one day, even though most people who are retired choose to be more “busy” than me - in terms of traveling, purchasing a lot of things, are very social, etc. I enjoy my life, and just don’t have the need or desire to travel (except to camp and fish and canoe) or make big purchases, be very social, etc. My/our life and lifestyle are so simple and easy and also meaningful. I’m very grateful. My (retired) wife and I pretty much do all household things/chores together - cooking, cleaning, etc. It takes very little time as we have deliberately chosen to live very simply. For example, our house is less than 550 square feet total! Our meals are all homemade but very simple. Neither of us has ever been into name brand clothes, or the latest gadgets or new cars, household knickknacks, etc. She and I feel exactly the same about life, including our retirement! Most of our day to day life is spent together but when I camp and fish, she stays home and does her art and other interests. It’s a win/win. I do think a critical part of a couple being happily retired is that they truly do enjoy each others’ company! As well as enjoying one’s own separate times too. It’s all good! I wish you very happiness! No doubt, retirement is a big change! But for us, it’s been absolutely fabulous in every way! We do have a bit of daily routine … taking our dog for a walk, exercising and stretching, cooking, eating, etc. The rest of each day … whatever we want to do - together or separate here at our place. Our 4 years of retirement can be summed up with 2 words … freedom and enjoyment! Also, you’re right about the Medicare drug plans’ change to maximum of $2000 out of pocket for you each calendar year, starting in 2025. I think the hardest part of “retirement” is getting all the ducks in a row as you talked about - Medicare, supplemental plan, drug plan, social security, etc. If you have a good broker (that charges no fee), s/he will be able to help you greatly. One thing about your prescriptions - if you’ve not heard of Good Rx - do check it out! It costs nothing to use it. But the cost savings for prescriptions can be very significant!! Just look up “Good Rx” online and request a card - it’s free (so you can show the pharmacy - you can ask them to look up each prescription to see what cost the prescription would be through Good Rx.). The only thing to know is that if you do get a prescription(s) through Good Rx (you can do any/all/none), the amount you pay for any prescription doesn’t go towards your Medicare Drug plan deductible. But, it can still be included as a medical expense on your yearly taxes. You can get the Good RX card and use it, no matter what Medicare Drug Plan you have or pharmacy you use! It has saved some people thousands of dollars a year! No matter what, be sure and DO get a Medicare Drug Plan at the same time you start getting Medicare, regardless of getting GoodRx or not. Again, congratulations and HAPPY LIVING BEING RETIRED! I don’t know where you’re located, but if you were close by, we could look at doing sone camping/fishIng! We are in the Pacific NW. Enjoy. Just subscribed!
Congrats on being so close to your full freedom!
Oh boy, you've got a lot on your mind. You'll be fine. As you already mentioned, you'll now have the time to pick up on the things you've wanted to do and should be doing. Meaning, you'll be busy with the things you've wanted and are wanting to do. As part of that, you'll make new local friends. And if you want, work part-time for extra $ and some new friendship. Now, photography should keep you busy. There is so much to learn with the cameras, software and tweaking images. Not to mention video production. Camping, planning camping, etc. As you can see this comment is getting long. There is so much you can be doing .. I haven't even mentioned tools .. 😁 Stay healthy (includes exercise), eat right.
Your thoughts about "walking out the door" are exactly right. I believe it's the biggest lie ever when employers tell employees that their family. You're family as far as you are willing to do more for less for the boss. I understand that, I just wish more people would open their eyes before letting the boss take advantage of them. I've been retired for almost two years now and am loving it. I think it helps to keep living forward, don't live in the past.
Having that conversation the other day with my Boss of 14 years and his remarks made me think, I am not really part of any family like they try to make you believe at work. I hear this speech all the time about being part of the family. I say Bull Crap. I have seen three long term employee's retire from the company I work for in the last few years. I personally keep in touch with two of them. But no one speaks of that employee any longer. As soon as their ass hit the door they were forgotten about. So the moral is, don't feel quilty about retirement or leaving your job. There will be someone else to take up your position when you are gone. Go on and enjoy your live and move forward. I like your sentence, "Don't live in the past"
I'm going to purchase a new 2025 Nissan Frontier King Cab next year. Thanks for the walk around.
I'm a solo camper, camping in a van. I like the experience I have with nature, but I like reading and writing on my novel. It's a good adventure for me. Yes, camping is not for everyone.
Thanks for the comment. Wonderful that you are able to spend time in nature doing the things you love. I live being outdoors and camping. I will probably be a solo camper myself.
Good job 👏
Thanks 😅
I would love to see Buccee's I want to go to one some time. They are not up north.
I will see what I can do.
This is a GREAT video. It's a good message to younger folks to DO IT NOW before they lose their health. I experienced a similar lesson with my Aliner camper. Just too much work to set up and take down. Towing is not easy either. You are 100% correct about a camping trip plus Walmart! Thanks for the video!!
Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the video.
Fun video, skipped ahead in a couple of spots. Impressed that you stayed within your budget...or close to it. Tim did a Buckie's Video a while back, it's a very interesting place. Will you be making a Thanksgiving dinner shopping trip?
I probably won't make a Thanksgiving Haul video since I will be out of town and we will probably not have a dinner to make.
Hi Ron, thank you for the grocery video. 😃
Welcome Pam. Hope you are doing well.
Trying to, I'm getting over covid thank you. @@TheRetirementGroove
Well, that was kind of fun to watch. I am the primary grocery shopper at my house. I see the final bill and I know how it has gone up so I'm looking for better buys too without too much of a compromise. The big store by us is Meijer although there is a Walmart about a 1/2 mile away. I didn't know about those Thin & Crispy pizzas at Walmart. We like thin crust pizza so, we'll have to give them a try. (Our favorite is the Bellatoria Ultra Thin Crust pizza.) The McCafé decaf is probably pretty good coffee but it's 62c/oz whereas the Great Value decaf is 37c/oz. I was surprised that you bought shredded lettuce when you could have saved a little just buying a head and slicing it like a loaf a bread in 1/4 in slices. It's not unusual for people to have a cluttered desk. Mine has already undergone a decluttering but it's getting messy again. Your desk was really no big deal. But a clean desk does look sharp. 🙂
A very pleasing comment to read. Thanks for that. I will have to check out the GV Decaf Coffee next time I am there.
Ron, Travel trailers come with a pretty big learning curve. Not unlike heavy machines I'd guess. I came across your channel today and have watched a few of your other videos as well. I retired 12/10/2020. I was ready to do with out a job/boss. I'm still adjusting to retirement. Spending money is still an issue for me. I had a couple thoughts as I was watching today. I wonder if you are close to any TV towers for Over the Air broadcasting? I hated paying the cable bills too. We're just east of Nashville in Lebanon. I got a Legacy Tablo that is just a slick DVR/streaming device. You may have to have a streaming device like Roku as well, but there may be a way around that. Do some homework before buying anything is the best advice. So we record most everything from OA broadcasts and replay, skipping the ads/commercials. I've also run across a RUclips guy that has a lot of info you may find helpful. Joe Kuhn, check him out for retirement planning. He made a lot of money early but there's a lot of what he says that we can apply to our own situations. We bought our 2017 travel trailer 4/21 and our 1st stop was Defeated Creek. I appreciate your plain talk and relate to the stuff you're talking about. I'd like to learn more about creating /editing video. I'll check out your photography channel too. We use my wife's account for most everything we watch on RUclips via the Tablo. I'm Jeff, she's Sherry. Looking forward to some more of your content!
Greetings Jeff. I have looked into HD Antenna (I think that is what they call it) where we live. But there is only 1 Channel available unless I move on top of mountain. We are surround by mountains. But, it could work for a Camper since you are moving around to different locations. I will give the Joe Kuhn a look to see what his channel offers. Thanks for the tips - I appreciate them. Ron
Enjoyed the walk along looking at stickers. Crazy prices. Maybe I missed it on your report. Would have liked to seen the Inv costs, if any? Warranty probably covered already warped rotors. Quality is less these days. Just think what Insurance will cost after Hurricane Helene and Milton costs are reviewed. End user always pays….,
I did not get to see the invoice cost of the vehicles. It is crazy how much vehicles cost these days. Thanks for the comment.
@ sorry. I meant your Invoice Cost per the work you had done on your Frontier, Hopefully it was all a $ Zero Charge..
Hi sir, it's great to connect! Can you tell me a bit about your RUclips channel and target audience?
Put a rod back there and you have clothes closet.😊
Excellent Idea. I will do something like that.
I love all your changes and upgrades that you have done. I enjoyed your video. Happy camping.
Thank you so much. I am very pleased with the changes so far.
Lucky me - my wife and I were sleeping on the ground/backpacking before we were married. At the age of 50 (25-plus years of marriage) my wife said she thought she was getting a “bit old” to be sleeping on the ground. We bought a small trailer, used it for about 8 years and upsized to a new 25-foot towable, which we’ve pulled about 18,000 miles from the Midwest to the Grand Canyon to Smoky Mountains. BUT - as you noted - we made some very informed decisions, based on a camping lifestyle we have enjoyed since we were kids. Cordell Lake is terrific! Nice spot, nice people.
Thank you for the comment. I plan on visiting more of the Corp of Engineer Campgrounds. They are a great value with you have the Senior Discount Card. Which I do.
Buying a camper and using it spend half the year in Florida and the half home. Also bring m boat to fl. With us.
Very cool. Would love to do some camping in Florida.
Am the original owner of my 2002 Frontier 2.4 with 326,000 miles. Back then new was just below $15K. The new ones look enticing but not ready to buy quite yet.
Congrats on your Mileage. I just sold my daily driver which was a Honda CR-V 2006 with 232,000 miles. I felt like it would have gone twice that.
Surprised that there is that many Titans still available.. I'm sure they'll go quick with Nissan discontinuing them. I bought the 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro 4X in early August and I love it so far. No issues with the cruise control, mine has a build date of 07/24 so they may have updated the software on mine . Got mine fully loaded with every option, MSRP was just shy of $51k and with the Nissan rebate and dealership rebate and a little price haggling, I got mine for $45k out the door. I didn't like the turbo 4's that the competitors are putting in and the tablet sized infotainment screens , just wanted an old school truck with a little bit of tech.
I didn't know the Titans were going away. Interesting. The PRO-4x is a sweet setup. Congrats on yours. Yes I would say if your build date is July 24' then you would not have the same issue on the Cruise Control that I was having. I am glad I asked and now mine is working great. Before I would not use the Cruise Control because of it's behavior. Now, I use it everyday while on the Interstate.
If you don't mind a faulty nightmare of a transmission, Nissan would be happy to take your money. It isn't just the CVT, but all Nissan transmissions are junk.
I bought a 2024 platinum titan back in June. Msrp was $69k. Final cost with taxes title and everything was $59k. 0% apr and no money down. Really happy with it so far
Cool. Those Titan's are nice trucks. Thanks for the comment
..... and today its worth 49k. Good job sucker.😂😂😂
Prices are going up and up not down and down. Trust yourself
Yep those prices keep going up
You can’t afford a new car. The city bus is the only option available these days. Save yourself some trouble
Sometimes I think Uber is a better choice than car ownership
Never been to Cookeville.
Cool town to visit
Excellent video thank you. Extremely informative. 🙏
Glad it was helpful!
