It's insane to think I could buy an "ok" car if I sold all my old Pokémon games based on those prices and I don't even have a collection as big as yours. I'm not a collector, so the only reason I still keep them it's because transferring mons from emulators is a pain I don't have time for. I'd sell all of it (and the consoles) in a heartbeat if the games came to the Switch. Hell, I'll probably do it as soon as Pokémon Bank is shut down.

i respect and like your "serious" content alot, you have alot of good vocabulary like for example when you said that emerald is the predecessor to ruby and sapphire, never thought about 3rd game series entrys in that way for some reason

Sadly, the current two games I'm struggling to buy or not is Soul Silver n' Black 2. Good times...never got to play them early as Ruby and Sapphire. Both wanting to play and experience the games as well have them for my personal collection would be a dream, but....Perhaps Soul Silver will also get some type of Switch HD or solid port. ^_^);

They are pricey brother. Recently spent over $500 on analogue pocket and pokemon red, fire red, ruby, and a few other classic games. Feels bad man. Saving up for Crystal.

I had only one game growing up. Started working as a teenager and bought a lot of the gameboy advance and ds games and then my parents convinced me to sell them to buy a car because I was “grown” lol I sold them, got the car. A year later I was out rebuying everything again. I’m glad I did! I was able to scoop all the games pretty cheap, even a not for resale emerald for $30.

I think that D/P are so much less because the QOL improvements on Platinum make them feel like worse games. R/S dont have this problem as much... they stand on their own as great games even though Emerald is better. D/P on the other hand are frustrating to play with how slow they feel

Awesome retro gaming handles that can play all 2D games perfectly cost around 50 bucks. Also ever drives or similar cartridges cost under 50 bucks if you want to play on the original hardware. Also, honestly, I now prefer ROM hacks over the original games. I’m just collecting and modeling handhelds now. That is more fun for me. I’m gonna sell all the original games I have flying around because I barely use them.

About a year ago I got really lucky and found someone Locally selling every ds mainline pokemon game (besides soulssliver) only a few of them were missing manuals thats it i got the lot + a pokewaller for about 200 I got back my entire childhood

I realised its better to just buy the game when you find it even if it is a bit overpriced, rather than wait for the price to drop. It is not going to drop. I bought my pokemon emerald a couple of years ago for 160 euros and my fire red around 10 years ago for 30 euros.

I think it's completely unfair to price 20 year old games by their CIB prices, just makes for a more sensational video I guess. To be clear though, this is not just a Pokemon issue. Game preservation is under threat by corporations who are actively lobbying against it. If I want to view a 20 year old magazine that's no longer distributed, there are online tools to do so. If I want to view a 20 year old tv show that's no longer distributed, there are online tools to do so. If I want to play a 20 year old video game though? Well then I can get fucked and labeled a pirate. As a community we need to view the bigger picture and work together advocate for change in preserving these old games, because the corporations sure as fuck won't.

If you buy the orginal gba games but the japanesse version its cheaper. Not in english. But cheaper. Aslo the prices on heartgold and soul silver piss me off. Orginaly $30 with A pokewalker included. Now over $100 just for the cart no pokewalker

When it comes to old pokemon games and the prices, we have to consider the competitiv side of pokemon aswell. Start with breeding competitiv pokemon as example Breeding might be easyer In Game A Shiny Hunt is easyer in B EV training is better in C Egg Moves, Ways to learn Moves. ect. Its just cruel overall

on the other hand, an SD card is pretty cheap and the homebrew software is free :)

Oh man! My favorite game was pokemon crystal. Unfortunately as a stupid 10 year old, I spilled my drink all over the game.. destroying my only copy at the time. That cartridge is still in my collection even though it will never be revived (trust me, ive tried). But lucky for me, just the other day I snagged another copy at a retro gaming store for $170. A pretty price for nastalgia. I had a friend in middle school (2004) give me her copy of Pokemon Gold. I was NOT going to pass up that opportunity! I already had Silver so that completed my gen 2 game collection! Most of my pokemon games are Used from game stop or EB games. Back then, those used games were only like $15-$20.

I think one of the reasons we're seeing the classic pokemon games skyrocket in price is the fact that they're STILL the only legit way to play those games. I think if Nintendo finally got whatever stick is up their ass out and ported them to the switch the demand would drop significantly. If you want to play Emerald today in 2024 without using an emulator... you NEED the original game.

FireRed is one of my favorite games of all time. SoulSilver/HeartGold are absolutely great too.

I am from the Netherlands so it's only a small country. Literally every Pokemon game that is put on our version of eBay gets bought by resellers probably within a matter of hours. They sell Pokemon Emerald without box with a scratched up sticker for 165eu..

Crystal price makes no sense when you can just get it on 3ds (well, not anymore, but it was available for years). Also, I recently bought another Emerald cartridge to flip in the future, and they are going for around half the price you showed in the thumbnail. You guys are getting robbed 😂

When Nintendo shut down the 3DS Store, I damn near bought every single Pokémon game that was available including the Poke Bank & Transfer tool. I honestly wished that the GBA & DS gen were available too.

Just to give you a heads up, I completed my collection also! 😂 expensive! Worth it though. Gen 3 the most expensive! 😂

Getting first impressions on Pokemon from people who have never played is always so cool to watch. I also wonder if she would have more fun if she had a type chart. I feel like she would get over not having a map.

I have tried many times to get my wife to give pokemon a shot. I have failed those times. Some day haha.
