This was incredible! New subscriber here❤
Thank you so much for kind comments and for subscribing it helps alot
Joseph, I love this great work! How do you save your work you mentioned that it cant get wet, do you put it under glass? Do you use other types of paper that you can "fix" your pastels with and how long did this take? Thank you for posting new subscriber.
Thank you for the kind comment. I don’t fix the painting because it darkens the values. You can fix your painting if you use the paper called Clairefontain pastel mat a smooth board. If you’re going to hang the painting it must be behind glass . It took about 30 hours. Again thanks for watching
Beautiful. Thank you for uploading your perfect video, made my day.
Thank you it makes me so happy to hear that somebody feels that way.
Loved this tutorial, great information 👍
Thanks rob , I’m glad you enjoyed
An excellent tutorial and good informative narration. I would like to see more of the same in real-time.
Thank you for the kind comments Bill. I would love to do a real time video but the video would hours long and it would take forever to narrate. I’d run out of things to say.
@@josephhammond3637 Yes, I imagine it wouldn't be easy Joseph, many thanks for your reply, I look forward to your next presentation.
Beautifully done. \how did you mute it to sepia? Thanks for the tutorial.
Thank you for watching and the comment . It’s actually black and white but my working light is warm so it records as a warmer tone.
Great tutorial!
Thank you for the king comment
This is amazing. Thank you for your videos. And passing information.
Thank you Jerry I really appreciate you watching and your kind comments
Great art, thanks. It sounds like you're using a set of Conte pencils, containing white, Pierr Noir, And different Sanguines, which are waxy. Conte pastel pencils are not waxy, rather they are more chalky than other brands.
Thank you for the comment

Do you mean tracing? You can clearly see it already drawn, sorry. So did you draw or trace picture.
Hi Caroline ,I use both this sanded board is difficult to draw and erase on . I’ve had problems of losing grit can’t be replaced so I draw on a separate piece of paper then I transfer it using carbon paper. From there I produce the finish piece . I’ll put in how I do this in the next video.
Wonderful

Joe, nice coloring job for sure. I see you laid in the features of the face with ahh, lightbox, or projector. That's how i do it as well. Saves a lot of time on commission work. Best regards.
Hi thanks for question. I drew the drawing by hand on a separate sheet of paper then transferred it by carbon paper , I used to luci for jobs I got but my eyesight’s not what it used to be . When I draw I erase a lot and this sanded board does not erase well.thanks again for watching

Your very welcome and thank you for the comment
What takes me OUT of this drawing, is the (lower right) hand, on top of the hand holding the book. . . It looks dirty, because of the rougher texture-and fewer highlights-than the hand beneath it. Somehow, it’s just not as beautifully rendered as the rest of the drawing. I don’t mean to be critical-you are quite skilled- but I do find the difference to be distracting. Hope I made sense! Thank you for your videos, Joseph.
Thank you for the comment
Amazing!
Thank you I appreciate the comment
Hi, This was a really great tutorial. I don't know how you explain such complex theory so easily -you've a real gift for teaching. It's a stunning picture. And I've learned a lot. Because your approach is so detailed, and you make your choices really carefully, I'm just about brave enough to ask, were you happy with her left eye? -I have a mercilessly perfectionistic brain. It's an artistic nightmare. And It might just be a case of personal preference. But do you think one could get away with a tiny bit more light in the left eye - even though it's the far side of the face? Or does her eyebrow look a little high? Or is the dark line at the furthest edge of the eye just a smidge too dark? Or have you any other thoughts. I really hope you're not insulted by my questions. I've imagined that a person who enjoys detail as much as you do wouldn't mind. If you do mind, I'll take my comment down.
Thank you for your comment I really appreciate it . I don’t mind the questions at all . On the left eye I chose to keep the high light lower so that the left side would recede I didn’t want to give that side of the face to much importance. On the eye brow it may be a little high if you take in the perspective of the face. Again thanks for watching
This is a wonderful tutorial and I am so glad I found it. I would love to begin to work on people portraits in my pastel works soon. The information you shared is so informative. Thank you.
