Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I totally understand the frustration with appliances that don’t seem to hold up as they should. It’s true that many brands are manufactured by the same companies, often using similar parts, which can affect quality. Speed Queen definitely has a strong reputation for durability and simplicity compared to a lot of modern machines. Hopefully, manufacturers start listening to feedback. It seems most appliances are beautiful on the outside, but junk on the inside.

Thanks for your question! To detach the top of the washer and get access to the drum, you'll usually need to remove the screws or clips holding the top panel in place. Many models have screws located at the back or inside the lid area, or there may be clips you can release with a putty knife. Once those are undone, you can lift the top to get to the drum. Yea absolutely garbage brand

Before I bought the new speed queen I saw an old Whirlpool the gentleman we're selling it used, and it looked very good but it was 35 years old I so I asked my wife if she wants a 35 year old washing machine or a new speed queen of course she wanted the new one so I hope this machine holds up as good as my old GE but at least this new speed queen is much heavier then the new GE washing machine. Speed queen has a transmission you can take it apart. I don't know about the electronics. So if this isn't gonna work very well I'm just gonna buy an old Whirlpool 35 years old I can fix that. I bought a new GE washing machine recently. It has been a disappointment. The transmission was leaking after a year. Also electric motor is insufficient power. My old GE washer was great, we had it more 20 years. So I bought a new speed queen it is much heavier then the new GE washing machine. Speed queen has a transmission you can take it apart. I can fix that. I don't know about the electronics. So far the new speed queen is working excellent. It looks rather messy after the third shot, because I forgot to plug up the overflow with my fingers so it came out of the overflow and quite messy. If you want to look at again you'll see the first and second shots aren't too bad. Nevertheless I like doing this and it's, makes less mess to take the plumbing apart. I would have preferred to repair this GE washing machine but unfortunately the transmission was poorly made, that's why the oil was leaking after a year and a half. The motor is much too small because there was beautiful huge stainless steel tub on, it was very impressive, but with such a small motor it wasn't being turned properly so because of these two reasons I just couldn't repair it so unfortunately. I was forced to junk it and I do feel disappointed by the quality of General Electric and I think the engineers from General Electric are fine but I think it's the advertising and the financial problems because the people buy these machines don't really understand they're not made together very well.

@@downtoearthproblems sadly the cheap appliances have become like cheap radios & TVs a few years back. They've become disposable throwaways. At todays service, labor & parts prices it doesn't take much to add up to the original price paid for a machine that was less than $500.00 .My GE is also deafening loud in the spin cycle. It would be tolerable in a separate laundry room, basement or porch, however mine is right off the kitchen.

I agree!!! Ours was bought 8/2020 and I hate it!!! Can't even wash a queen size blanket or more than 3 bath towels to throw it off!! JUNK!!

I FEEL YOUR PAIN - I purchased mine last February and it stopped spinning and draining or even going through a full cycle two weeks ago & I didn’t take out warranty🤦🏾‍♀️ and i actually had it replaced a week after the original purchase because it’s so loud and rough

The belt should go on rather easily as you are turning the pulleys, so possibly you have the wrong belt for the machine. But if it's the correct part number. I will try it again put it on the small pulley first and make sure the grooves are coming in correctly and then force it over the smooth big pulley.

The pulleys have to be dry and clean, a wire brush would help it, but it's best to put a new belt on at the same time because oil gets soaked into the belt, but the real problem is oil coming out of the transmission. The hood itself can get jammed. This could happen for a number of reasons, the most common of them being the rusting or aging of the lock of the hood.

@downtoearthproblems should I force a screwdriver to push it to the side or see if I can get access to the bolts. It's an 02 T&C lx. I ordered a cable incase it's broken. Thx for response.

@downtoearthproblems ...I don't blame you for buying the Speed Queen. Good luck. It is no doubt constructed better. I'm just frustrated when I can't get a new control board for an otherwise fixable appliance, or it's prohibitively expensive. I have a gas furnace that's 68 yrs old, and some people say I'm probably paying through the nose for gas, but it has no electronics to fail and is more reliable in general. I'm not replacing it until it can't be repaired. My neighbor replaced his, and 10 yrs later, he had to replace it again because the main control board failed and was discontinued. I doubt that he ever recovered his investment in a new furnace. This is the junk society we live in today.

Unscrew and remove the punch latch from the lid and stuff it into the lid lock. Then the washer will run with the lid open. Doesn't matter if your lid lock gets splashed though. You'll have to wait about 6 hours for it to dry enough to run again. I'm pretty sure a lot of people encounter the lid lock issue and automatically assume they need a new one when they just need to prop the lid open and wait a few hours. If you've already replaced it before and still have the old one, try switching back to the old one and see if it runs. I'm considering buying a spare lid lock for just that reason. It's actually easy enough to change without dismantling the top. Just be careful not to drop it in the space between the tank wall and the barrel.

@@TheStevengob123 I had the actual piece of the plastic nub bust off that stops the lid from opening and apparently without that sliding shut in the part it doesn't complete the circuit just clicks then quits. Instead of buying another one I ended up taking it apart, then doing the baking soda and super glue trick. Then just re-made/attached old one that broke inside that horribly made part and filed down the edges so it would move even more smoothly with the piss poor electro magnetic thing they got in there that is so badly made it flops around so much it is probably the cause for most failures of those failures. The work around all of this is just a jumper between the circuit. All I can definitely say is they do not make them like they used to and that is absolutely bat shit crazy to be saying thinking back how quality was 15 yrs ago really wasn't all that good then either but at least the machine would last longer than 4 yrs.

My problem the transmission is leaking, so the oil goes down onto the belt and hence the belt slips and no spinning. Is that your problem the same the belt might look good but if there's oil on it the belt will slip. Check Out Video #3 ruclips.net/video/BHWtbLZuVr0/видео.html

I own this exact same GE washer. It’s very temperamental and only works when it wants to, and when it does actually work, it sounds like it’s going to take off and fly away when it’s in spin cycle. I think I’ve watched almost every YT video ever made about them thinking that I’m going to have this “omg I finally got it diagnosed and fixed it” moment.

You're right the belt is bad but the real problem is the transmission is leaking oil. But even with a good belt. The motors too small to spin heavy clothing in the tub. Thank you for making a comment.
