What I hate today is proprietary os is not what it used to be. MacOS runs like shit on an older mac but if you just install Windows 10 it runs amazing again. SteamOS is a typical slow-booting sluggish Linux crap even though I love it but it's reality and that's linux for you.

my laptop is legit 12 years old. its got like an nvidia geforce and intel core i7 windows 10 pro and it somehow runs little nightmares 2 and csgo (minecraft runs well too).

I got its brother the g51j with a 120htz screen. I put batocera on it. It works fine. For older games.

I think besides of drivers you used too heavy Desktop Environment. Using XFCE or Cinnamon would be game changer, Plasma is almost as heavy as Windows 10 (same for GNOME). I was successfully playing Minecraft on 12 yo laptop with intel Pentium and integrated graphics 2 months ago on Xubuntu. Optifine of course with lowest settings, but still playable and still looking good.

Definitely a bottleneck happening here because on a lot of these titles almost double the performance on some games though I do have a 7800x3d cpu in my build so yeah

Try Batocera, its an os for emulation, you can play games on a ton of systems, like ps2, wii u, 360, 3ds, gamecube, windows, psp, you can even use steam on it, and if you are feeling spicy, there are some mods that allow you to play ps4 or even switch games
