This Shoot Em Up looks totally Awesome & inspired by R-Type, Salamander & Gradius, really hope a release of a digital rom for those who would love to play the game on an emulator ? :)
You can purchase the digital version now on TechnoShedsoftware.com. also works on the current spectrum next emulator cspect. Full install and setup video on my channel. The game also works on next clone machines xberry and N-Go.
Thank you for your kind comments...and yes it is awesome.
@@BAPSTARCADE I've followed the step by step instructions for the Cspect emulator on your channel got it working with no problems whatsoever & purchased your Amazing game & love it, I am very impressed, Thank you very much for all your help :)
The Amiga version of Head Over Heals fell very short because it lacked the beautiful music that the C64 and Spectrum had. I actually preferred the C64 version.
Yeah you may be right. Unusual for a 16bit game also. The Amiga version technically should have been the best one. The Next version is incredible.
@@BAPSTARCADE Totally agree. The Next version looks amazing. 🤓
Those blasted guards!! took me a while to realise you automatically grabbed them.
Yeah...same..got there in the end.
I yelled so loud when I took out that 1st dude you had issues with. haha.
Haha..yeah...the B@st&£#@ hehe
Those BAST!@#$%! haha
Looks great! Will definitely buy it.
:o
On a sad note, Bernie Drummond recently passed away.
Very good and complete explain about all. Thanks!!!!!!
Thanks. Appreciate the comments.
Hey guys thanks for the nice comments on my game. Make sure you don't miss my latest ones "Sheepish", "bomber Pengo" and others 😁
good luck with sales .. what about Pc version .. game+emu=one exe.
Watch this space :)
@@BAPSTARCADE ok.
That break out clone looks good
Great fun
Why does this channel have so few subs and views? Looks like such good content. I came by for your iridium content and now checking out your other vids.
Wow...thank you. Comments like that keep me going. Glad you like the channel.
thanks, very educational.
Thank you
Nice video great to see you using the classic zipstick. You can’t beat that clicking 😊. Nice to see the games on the spectrum next as well something I’ve not seen running :) keep up the good work
Hey!! Cheers for having a look. Much appreciated
@@BAPSTARCADE not a problem. Will catch up with some of the others :)
Correct I definitely 100% want this ❤
If this takesoff , imagine the games that will be produced .
Does it work with external physical floppy drives ?
Haven't tried but the spectrum next was designed to work with legacy hardware in mind.
Asteroid, man. Takes me back ;)
It's a great version
Definitely some amazingly polished stuff being produced for the next. It's a sweet gaming platform, both for play and developing them. 👍 Huge thanks for the unexpected shout out at the end... ❤
Kevman3d?
Great video mate - been here with my brothers - you can spend most of the day here just playing and then having a drink or a bite to eat - then play some more 👍
I absolutely love this place!
What? no head over heels or delta shadow lol how about the way of exploding fist that's a good game 😂 , your taste in top games and your gaming ability are an equal match my friend 😂😂😂
First list of digital none physical only
Today's generation of players won't appreciate it, but in 1985, for example, we couldn't download anything digitally to a rubber spectrum. Keep it up and do even better.
There was a game Cytadela on Amiga 500. It even had blood splatters across the wall when you shoot the enemy near the wall.
Didn't know about this one cheers. Apparently there is a remaster of this also.
It looks fantastic, can’t wait to play and no, there is not a shop in the original
Nice addition then👍
I think it looks fantastic and I applaud the fact that people have the love and devotion to convert these classic games to the Next. It is they that make the Next such a special machine and more than just a ‘new Spectrum’. Love the music - way better sound, which is what let the Amiga version down.!
I ignored isometric games like HoH or Knight Lore on the original speccy because of the unplayable low speed. The next version finally has that snappy arcade feel. Music during the game is welcome. Where's the next remake of Hero Quest, heh.
Head Over Heels is one of my favourite games of the 8-bit era, but watching, I noticed a few things: Things I liked: - lovely graphics, it's fantastic - the extra little bits of animations are a really nice touch - there's extra rooms that weren't in the original, giving it more replay value - there's a difficulty control (although, not sure what that affects) - the gameplay still seems to be based around the original versions and not "RetroSpec" PC remake which had some game breaking bugs - the background music is quite nice and definitely has a Head Over Heels feel about it - the overall presentation is fantastic Thing I didn't like - game speed is too fast on the "normal" setting - what's happened to the original jingles that play when going through each door? it seems that only the 8-bit versions had this (I liked that, and it's what make Head Over Heels a little special for me in a way) - keyboard controls buried in a submenu ............. HoH is a keyboard game on any system, it's not a joystick/joypad game really - I wasn't clear on what the chickens did until you entered the shop - I wasn't really clear on the loose/precise controls until you'd tried both options, whereas "Control Sensitivity" on the original made more sense to me - it's only on the Next ................... I don't have one (yet) - keeping it behind a KS2 backer wall for the time being ............ don't like that Despite all this, it's a lovely version and I'm grinning from ear to ear seeing it
Personal preference I think mate. There's nothing game breaking. The options are there to tweak the gameplay yourself which I like. I wasn't a fan of the original and I think that was partly down to the speed of the game. I actually prefer the speed of the next version, hopefully you can give it a try. Not sure why the room changing music isn't there but if it was exactly the same then I wouldn't see the point. The next has to stand on its own like the Amiga did over the 64 imo. Thanks for your comments anyway, always good to see other people's take from watching.
Yes, this was meant as a extended game, with extra rooms as well a extra level. That was a part of the kickstarter project. So we did that. So hence chickens and a extra level. Various tweeks also have been done throught the game as well how we presentation the game. Its all down to the personal taste and nothing more. So there is various tweaks here and there, but still close to the original. Yes there is a another moderen pc version. That mordern version is just a purchased from the free 2004 version......
@@spacefractaltotally agree this is a great game, and my comments weren't me saying I don't like the game, I love the look of this and can't wait to try it at some point ........ just being a little critical - I still think it's amazing to see this in 2024 and see one of my oldest gaming memories get the lick of paint it deserves
@@BAPSTARCADEtotally agree that a lot of my criticisms are personal preferences ....... and none them mean I don't like it, it's just me being critical of a favourite. In fact, I can't wait to give it a go at some point. It's nice to see one of my oldest gaming memories brought to life like this.
@@duncanwoodward6831 They were fantastic observations mate. Infact I have used a few of your questions and observations for my next podcast episode. Stay tuned. Cheers buddy.
What have they done to the look of Head????? He looks nothing like him in the presentation screen with a blue sausage nose and weird mouth. The actual in game sprite also looks wrong, the mouth i think. Also they have lost all the cool charming sound effects from the speccy/amstrad version which is a shame.
It's not meant to be a carbon copy...we have the originals and they will never be changed. This is the Next version like the Amiga, and ST version that came after. Trust me it plays and looks awesome. But if you prefer the original then that's fine also. Thanks for your comments.
The presentation screen looks a bit odd but the ingame version is pretty close, keeping in mind they have gone from just a few pixels to a higher resolution. Have pretty fond memories of this on Amstrad, C64 and Amiga, then a few years back on a Windows remake that got taken down (still available on internet archive though.)
@@Fontgod hmm..will have to hunt the pc one down, never seen that version. Cheers.
@@Fontgod...oh it's on steam, and there is a Nintendo switch version! Down the rabbit hole I go.....
@@BAPSTARCADE Actually there is a free PC version from Retrospec from 2003 before it got pulled from their website as I think that Piko Interactive may have convinced them to sell it instead and they removed the link. BUT if you can find the original download page and then tap that URL into internet archive you should be then able to find that old version. I'd link to it for you but I think youtube generally deletes posts with links.
Most streamers make me want to chew my own face off. You do a great job of keeping it engaging while letting the content speak for itself.
Cool video. Just need to find some time to play👍
There's always time to play....:)
@@BAPSTARCADE there is now Webster v0.3BETA is finished🙂
I've only had chance for a quick play on this since getting the download for my KS2 Next, but it's superb... we need updated Next versions of.... well, a lot of classic Speccy games.. I'm sure there's at least 30 games that would be amazing if updated! Great review though, thanks for uploading!
Agree..but I mainly want to see original titles so the Next can stand on its own.
You won't be getting any updated versions of anything from us. HoH was a Kickstarter stretch goal and that's why we did it. The real clue is in the name of the machine. NEXT. We want to develop as well as see what games people create NEXT. We don't want to be continually revisiting the past. That is pointless.
@simonbutler-bq8yb very true, I love arcade style games, driving games, rather than platform games, I think the Next could come into its own with new games. Sometimes simpler games done well are the ones that keep us coming back.. think how spectrum games started basic then we were wowed within a few years.. can't wait to see some new stuff now
I live in Leicester and have only been once so should really get myself down there again. I have many things I can donate too.
Amazing video and well edited. It is a good memory of the old museum and hopefully many more will be made in the new one.
Why thank you sir
42 years and finally there's a "spectrum" that can compete with the C64.
From what I've seen, the Next games seem to be on par graphically with Amiga and Atari ST.
Is this the new place?
No mate
2:47 - KAT TRAP 😹🤘! I still have that game for my Commodore 64 as a tape version 😹👍🕹️.
It looks fantastic i would love this machine
Look up the xberry pi or the N-Go. There's also a fantastic emulator called cspect.
@@BAPSTARCADE will do thank you
Just looked , definitely on my project lists thank you again 👍
Website says Xbox controllers are no longer compatible.
Really? Interesting...I'll look into that as mine works perfectly.
Might mean Xbox series s and X controllers..not Xbox one X and s.
I have both so will try them out...this vid needs a refresh anyway. Cheers.
Great video bud ... Temu is a wild place
It is!
I honestly don't trust temu, but good video, and never had any interest in theses emulator handhelds
I was just curious...and to be honest I've tested out a few things. The scary thing is I've bought the same kind of things from Amazon ! You have to remember everything has come from china for years you're just cutting out the middle man.
@@BAPSTARCADE very good point lol, ya see even those from Amazon are sketch lol
Ok maybe for Kids to play with. Maybe Good Toilet Companions.. I would not have one myself even tho they are Cheap as Chips. Would make cool little gifts tho 😜
I've seen Amiga fans try to say that this game is proof that John Carmack was wrong about running Doom not running on a stock Amiga, but if anything it proves him right. It took someone three decades to figure out how to do this on stock hardware, and its still closer to Wolfenstein 3-D than Doom.
It's incredible what people can find and do when there's limitations. Modern gaming relies on things being too easy now with ready made engines.
I do not think Krzysztof was figuring out this for three decades😉Imagine this game released in 1987 or 1990🤗 Carmack was not referring to STOCK Amiga, he wrote "even the fastest amiga hardware"🤦♂ DREAD is obviously not converting bit planes to chunky. Carmack was wrong and his ideas about Amiga 3D engines pretty limited.
@@TheGalacticIndian This was not possible without three decades of hindsight and other people trying though, so what he says stands.
Mate this looks much better than Wolfenstein 3D and is comparable to Doom’s graphical complexity while running on what is an equivalent to a 7Mhz Intel 286. At the end of the day Carmack was wrong, he only said it was impossible cuz it required an amount of effort that he just didn’t wanna deal with. Also you saying it like this was being developed for 30 years straight when the project was started just a few years ago lol. There always have been people that can be considered more skilled than Carmack in hardware optimization.
@@yancgc5098 Functionally it's more like Wolfenstein 3-D though, so this is not Doom. I never said that one developer was trying consecutively for three decades, but it took three decades for someone to come along and figure out how this can be done. Lastly, the original developer diary for Dread, which Grind originated from came out one Feb 23, 2020. So we're at about four years, three months. Doom's development cycle was 15 months. Carmack's statement stands.
Gloom and deathmask were FPS on the Amiga.
Cheers! Stock A500 though?
TBH should be native at 50htz, i don't fancy changing the frequency every time i want to play 1 game. it's a miss for me.
Thanks for the guide. I have a question please, can I play all my old Spectrum game cassettes on the Spectrum Next?
Awesome question! Yes you can. You just need a plus 3 audio cable which is stereo to mono split. The original black and grey cable won't work. And then obviously you need a tape deck.
I show tape loading in the video.
@@BAPSTARCADE perfect thanks I'll look into that
@@BAPSTARCADE Ive seen a few online, just so I know Im getting the right cable, would you mind please linking me to the cable?

It's amazing that we've spent $400 on a machine to play awful MasterSystem-like games. I'm so regretting my pledge.
Although I agree with your choices, or most of them anyways, you can't get half of these physical releases, sadly!
It's my first list. Hopefully some additional runs are made.
@@BAPSTARCADE yeah, hope so too!
oh yeah baby. nice stuff.
Is there a website where you can browse and buy any of the physical releases for the next?
Yes there is. Clive Townsend has a great section on his site. www.clivetownsend.com/next/index.php
