Silver Clay: Sculpt a Tiny Vessel
Follow along as I talk my way through sculpting this piece. I wanted to show a little more about what went into making this, though there’s mostly no native sound to the videos (until a little later) so instead I share what’s going through my mind as the project progresses.

What I Use to Make Molds for Silver Clay (as of Jan. 2025)
Просмотров 53928 дней назад
For years I have used the purple mold material (Easy Mold), but it's become difficult and now impossible to find. As of now, after experimentation with this yellow kind of two-part silicone mold material, I'm happy to switch to using Amazing Mold and will recommend it for use with all kinds of objects in order to make molds to use with silver clay. This slightly ASMR video shows how I package t...

love these!!!
You are so many steps ahead of other artists I watched working with silver clay. It is you combining imagination with technical skills that makes the difference. May your channel grow as it deserves to do. New subscriber in Germany ❤.
Can I put this in my airfryer?
I forgot to ask you and I might have actually did ask you in a previous video, but I’ve been really behind on watching videos due to having to work myself. Your paint brushes do you use real animal hair? And which paint brushes do you use? My mother had I can’t even tell you how many Master Degrees in Art.. it’s called something else but it’s about her art. And my daughter has really become a incredible artist. And when my mother almost 7 years now I ended up giving my daughter all of my mother’s art supplies… so if you could help me out in that area, I would appreciate you Hugs 🤗, Michelle
First off, you know, I love everything you do…❤❤❤ I was just getting ready to pause and say oh I really wished you would’ve showed us how you did the mice 🐁… so yes, as someone who is a professional metalsmith and as you know, I do work with silver metal claim, but my studio was robbed, and my kiln was stolen along with so much other stuff. It was horrible. But I have you on pause right now because I wanna let you know that I think it’s great that you are taking the time to show us how you put the little mice on there and I’m not sure if you’re going to add a plant. Anyway, I would really love to know how you do the elephants with the baby elephants. I would personally love to make one for me, my daughter and my granddaughter. I would never copyright anything that you did. I’m not that kind of person. Because I know what it feels like when someone steals your original design. But I’m gonna stop yapping and that’s a Texas term. fyi… and finish watching the video hugs 🤗, Michelle ❤❤❤❤

Thats so cool! I had no clue that clay could look like that!

I've never seen that method of gold leafing before. How awesome! Thank you for sharing.❤❤

Maravilhoso parabéns que massa é essa
This is incredible. Absolutely incredible. The artistry is blowing me away. You are so talented and your patience…your patience is amazing. I have all my metal clay stuff out. I got everything I needed years ago but never did it. So I pulled it out so now it’s staring at me every day. I need to figure out the best thing to make as my first attempt. Something easy that I can’t totally screw up!!
Thank you! Very much. As a starter project I would highly suggest making something flat! Or flat-ish! Using a mold is always a solid path forward. You could always design in polymer clay, first, too!
As a total newbie to silver metal clay, I can’t even begin to tell you how inspiring you and this video are! It is so incredibly valuable to me and since I’m starting a new business, it is incredibly educational and helpful. Thank you so very much for taking the time to create this video and share it with all of us, including every little step and detail. I learned so much because you took the time to mention all the little things that newbies need to know and learn. You are totally awesome and I adore your skills and your creative, artistic craftsmanship!! 🙏🥰
I'm excited for you to be at the start of your silver clay work! It's suuuuch a fun medium. Thank you for this comment - I'm so glad to know it's helpful.
Thank you for showing the whole process ! I could watch you for hours. I haven’t seen people working with paste in his way before so I really appreciate you not speeding it up. Love your channel and love this sweet little caldron 🐭❤️
Thank you so much for these insights. I appreciate you!
I love how each phase that you described reminded me of different things. The design for the lid of the pot reminded me of the presses that are used to make mooncakes, but also had an Indian and Moroccan pattern. I also like that the feet of the pot reminded me of the feet for the clawfoot tub that my aunt and uncle had in their home that I visited as a child. I also like that there were moments when the pot didn't look smooth and I remembered seeing the RUclips short of it and how beautiful it was. So I decided to just trust the process and you'd demonstrate how you got to the end result that you previously shared with us. Even when you were shaping the little mouse it was so impressive seeing how you formed it. The little pot and the lid with the acorn on it turned out beautifully. I appreciate you sharing the whole creative process with us. You are truly talented. Btw, I had no idea you had children. So your doing all of this while keeping a listening ear and watchful eye of them in the background is even more impressive. I know I've said this before but that tiny pot is so beautiful.
You are always so thoughtful and kind in your comments. Yes, there is usually a lot going on here. I appreciate all your insights and feedback! Thank you for watching!
@@BlueDotJewelry I have a question. I've come across some RUclips videos of people taking small items, cover them with a little oil and then using a hot glue gun covering them in hot glue to make a mold out of them. Have you heard of this? I've wondered if people do this for jewelry making as well? I'm also not sure how durable that kind of mold would be. I didn't see where people were doing this until last week though. I figured I'd mention it to get your thoughts.
@ I’m a big fan of the idea of making molds out of whatever works for you. I’ve used hot glue a little, although not for this purpose, and I would say off the top of my head the fact that it’s rigid when dried would make it more difficult to de-mold than something flexible like silicone. If I were to experiment with using it in this way, I’d go for something like a disc or a coin shaped original, which takes less effort to de-mold than something more 3D.
@@BlueDotJewelry thank you for responding. I didn't know if using hot glue would be you wouldn't get the detail like you did when I watched your seahorse video? Plus I also wasn't sure how long the mold would last as opposed to what you use to make molds with? So I appreciate your response. Thank you.
@@EmorettaRobinson This touches on another important point. DO NOT put hot glue on something intricate and fragile like a sea horse, if you want the specimen intact after the molding process! I don't trust it!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I really enjoyed hearing about your process and experiences working with the clay! This is such a darling piece and the acorn is so precious!! I also adore acorns! So fun! Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you so much! It's a joy to be able to make work inspired by things like acorns 💙
Absolutely fabulous! Like out of a children's story. Could you do a bell the same way?
Thank you so much! Yes, certainly could. I have made smaller bells, pendant size, as you may have seen, but larger would be so fun!
@BlueDotJewelry wonderful! I'll keep an eye out for it! Love watching the videos ❤
Just found your channel and i absolutely love it! Your work os very beautiful and delicate. I like making tiny things with clay so this is a great inspiration to me! Absolutely love this little caldron 💕🐁

Hello! Thank you so much 💙
Thanks quite interesting. I have bought some silver clay to try out this jewellery method for my grand daughters. Ive watched a lot of silver and your vid is the first copper clay. I worked in the metal trades construction industry involved in brazing and welding. What I have noticed is what seems very uneven heating with the torch and I'd swear blind no where near hot enough, a lot of times barely red. Why don't demonstrators build a small ceramic wall and roof over the piece and adjust the distance of the torch to give cherry red or the colour that suits you. It's so easy as i've done a lot of neat silver soldering and temperature control is paramount in tidy brazing/silver soldering. Just a thought, take care
If I were going to be torching metal clay on a regular basis I would probably put thought into constructing something like you're describing. However, I must say that holding fine silver clay at a cherry glow both IS possible and IS absolutely the key to properly torching this medium. The piece needs to be smaller than 50g to hold a consistent glow throughout, but it can be done. You can test successful sintering by placing a few drops of water on the item (if disc shaped/if will hold water) and if it stays on the surface it's sintered. If not properly sintered, the water will visibly drain through. Enjoy your experimentation and thanks for commenting.
How do you account for shrinkage?
T h a n k s 🌸
Just curious why people spend all this time with clay insted of wax.. if they use wax it can be made into real silver, gold, platinum exc
@@LarryLeo The answer, quite simply, is that it’s another way of creating. I do make originals this way and have them cast, for a lot of my pieces, so I understand the value in traditional methods. But I love to make one of a kind pieces like this, and it is real silver.
My course teaches this stone setting method: bit.ly/BlueDotClasses
How do you make it liquid,? Great work by the way❤
OMG - I love these little creatures. I tried making one (emphasis on tried) using apoxie clay a few years ago, and they didn't come out so great. However, yours is PERFECT! ❣❣❣ So cute!

Wow
I like that you listed all of the tools that would be needed. The stone you picked was both beautiful and unique.
Thanks Emoretta! It really is a special stone.
Very helpful! Thank you! Great video!
You could torch fire any of those you just have to know how to control the flame. Most people grab a torch and think you have to have the sharp flame on and you don’t. There’s a little control knob on really good torches and most of them reach 2000°. You just have to know what you’re doing and not listen to anybody else and do your own research like most of these millennials don’t do they just listen to everybody on RUclips without doing any scientific research themselves because they’re lazy generations.
What is the mat that you are working on?

It's amazing. It's teflon coated and non-stick and also doesn't leave a texture. I get asked a lot, so there's a direct link!
