would very lowered cars scraping now n then on inner guards cause fake knock ? lol keep getting random drop in dam on lower rpms . I have to drive around good 30mins to get it back to 1lol. . on WOT never get a DAM drop
Its likely honestly based on your WOT statement hitting something can for sure cause it and even shifting hard too can cause the sensors to register knock. Are you running an OTS tune too ?
Ive had my cobb ots map for 92k miles. No issues. 2017 sti is my daily
@@matd8958 exactly Cobb tunes are still great !
Great video and explanation. I ran an OTS Map from Cobb AP for well over 100K miles (160K kms) with zero issues. And yes, Cobb engineers likely know more than we do. Fuel is definitely a huge issue/topic.

I think EVs could be as interesting as gas cars except every manufacturer's focus with EVs is automating every ounce of character out of the machine. Your accelerator isn't an actual control anymore, it just notifies the computer that you want to go faster. The computer makes all needed adjustments according to conditions, and attempts to do as asked. If there wasn't 10 layers of computer nonsense between the driver and the car's functionality that might improve it. Also if all these EV's weren't just blatantly hostile to the owners with regards to repair and modification. As it is they are proprietary transportation systems intended to be as useless as possible when they break, so you'll buy another one. To be fair, under capitalism every ICE car manufacturer is the same, but to me EVs just introduce exponentially more ways for corporate greed to fuck you over.
@@thesuzukimethod just want to say I appreciate you and Thank you for this. You perfectly put it better than I could honestly.
@@TheOBDMafia for sure bro. I've been watching EVs try to creep into the motorcycle world for years. I think EVs work best with boring utilitarian machines like a nissan leaf, where automation is fine because its a grocery getter. or track cars, something like or ariel atom but with replaceable electric motors and easily swappable batteries. Instead what we get is missiles that do 0-60 in 3 seconds with a huge lithium battery as a payload. Made specifically for rich people that cant be bothered to focus on driving.
Automotive enthusiasts make up a small percent of car customers. Most of the time they buy used anyway. So if your point is: "the public doesn't want the products you're slinging." That's wrong, .....and they don't care.
@@typhoon320i generally its my opinion right or wrong the validation is based on the rationality. You are correct enthusiasts make up a very small percentage of the consumer market. We also dont often buy new cars like you said. All of these are know. This is my are argument as stated in the video as a self proclaimed car enthusiast. Most enthusiast dont at least the ones Know and came across enjoy analog and tactile things “mechanics” Evs are non of those everything is minimalist which doesnt really appeal to the desire to feel connected to the car. This is a very niche topic and niche community. Really not trying to sway anyones mind like I said in the beginning of the video “In my opinion….” Again you are right I m wrong and they dont care. But again thats your opinion and I m okay with it I respect that
I will tell you why you felt the need to make this video - Car enthusiasts have proven again and again that you all are the dumbest bunch... period...
As a self proclaimed car enthusiast and an engineer that's worked for Honda, Jeep, Ram, Tesla, Toyota/Lexus and has owned a subaru wrx, lifted toyota tundra, and a model 3 performance while also having regular access to a Mercedes c43, and a honda s2000; the best and funnest daily driver for me has been the tesla, the funnest track car has been the s2000, and the funnest experiences have been in my tundra offroad. If i could only keep one car and I had to live my life exactly as I do now I would have to keep my daily which is the tesla, the only the place an ice car has been more fun is at the track and it was the s2000, i actually have a better time on the track in the tesla than when I had my wrx. Instantaneous torque is very addicting.
Very very interesting perspective thank you so much for watching as well. The instantaneous torque is a difficult match for ICEs. As a daily I feel like I could even a tesla but it feels so muted and too minimalistic maybe it will grow on me as time passes
@@TheOBDMafia Also I'd like to add that newest ice vehicle that I owned was the Subaru which was a 2007, my tundra was a 2003. As for the cars I had access to the s2000 was a 2002 and the Mercedes was a 2015 (it was actually a c450, not 43). I've also spent most of time living in Canada where it snows a decent that has a had a very big influence on vehicle choices and I lived in California for about 3 years which also influenced my vehicle choices. If you look at the years of my ice vehicles you can see that they are kinda old and I believe newer ice vehicles tend to do a worse job of being enthusiast vehicles, they are too heavy, they have too much tech, its almost like they are EVs with gas engines, so i tend to stick with the older ice vehicles. I do believe car enthusiasts can enjoy evs the same way they can enjoy FWD cars and automatic cars, not every enthusiast car needs to be a RWD manual V8. In the long term ICE cars will be like horses or automatic watches, only the very best will be kept around and they will be luxury/enthusiast items. Horses are really only for the race track these days and so will be ICE cars in the future.
Exactly. i do see a trend of these older cars making a solid comeback. Even Subarus have gotten more expensive in the 3rd party and private seller markets. I really dont hate EVs I think fulfill their purpose perfectly. They just don’t cater to the elements that are traditional self proclaimed enthusiast would love and enjoy. A car enthusiasts doesn’t have to be as you said only into RWD cars and i agree. I think the love for cars and car enthusiasts is universal honestly. I love the final statement in your comment horse are for the track and so will the ICEs. Thats how I m feeling to be truthful with you. I appreciate your feedback and for watching the video
Dude, I'm an enthusiast but I love electric cars. They are quiet, easy and relaxing to drive around town, and they require little to no maintenance. I can't take my kids to school in a 911. I also like motorcycles (Yamaha T7 is my favourite) but I ride a scooter on the daily because going to work or to the supermarket on a Tenere is inconvenient and entirely impractical. You can be an enthusiast but also like electric cars. They are not mutually exclusive.
100% they are not mutually exclusive not sure if it came across that way… you can be a car enthusiast and love electric cars, but inherently what enthusiast like is the analog tactile feeling of buttons gauges. Very mechanical things which EVs are farm from. Therefore bot really geared towards the “ average enthusiast”
LOL if they don't want Tesla/EVs then they should just stop talking about it. Why do you care so much about something that you don't want?
I think its important to talk about why we don’t like something. I dont dislike EVs just would not buy one as my fun daily driver. Driving can be stale especially when you are someone who spends 10-12 hrs commuting each week. Again this is not supposed to be an argument. Its really my opinion and I know you think its stupid and thats okay. Still appreciate your feedback
Not only is that a ridiculous argument, it is a childish mentality. The topic is relevant and as evident in the comments, there is a split in car culture currently. Some believe that the EV is the next evolutionary step for cars and car culture. Others, like myself, believe they are appliances and nothing more. This topic falls into the same type of debates taking place in garages all over the world, supercharger vs turbocharger natural aspiration vs forced induction, electric vs ICE. We care about these things because we are car people. I personally don't like turbochargers. Yeah I know faster, more fuel efficient, turbo noises and all that but to me, nothing beats the scream of a V8 at full throttle. I will argue that until the day I die. That doesn't mean I want a turbo because I will argue against them. That just silly.
@@TheOBDMafia I came at this wrong. When I come across videos similar to this, it is always skewed against attacking the EV industry and not really a conversation starter. Not sure if you changed your title or not but my response was related to how the title was phrased before. I do agree with you on the importance on discussing it, but most come just simply come across as hateful attacks.
@@IHC_23 When the premise is always to attack one side, it doesn't really lead much to a fruitful conversation. Seems I struck an ego lol. No need to respond
@@ernestsco ego has nothing to do with it. Your original comment was silly, not you, your argument. Perhaps I could have worded my response to you better but my point was to highlight that the EV vs ICE debate is no different than the others I mentioned.
If RUclips existed in the early 20th Century, "Equestrians don't like motor vehicles". With EVs getting up to 400 miles a charge, the switch is inevitable for 93% of the public now, the non car guys. No oil changes, no inspection stickers in certain states, only time you dont charge at home is on roadtrips, battery depreciation is getting closer to mpg depreciation. The only hold up now is maybe a slightly cheaper price and peer pressure.
Yes the EVs technology is evolving massively especially over the last 5-10 years. Inevitable yes.. there will he a day where only Evs exist. Likely we will be long gone to see that or no. But right now the infrastructure to support the cannot withstand the 93% idk what the infrastructure will look like or what type of power plants will be need to support a whole nation on Evs. Peer pressure is a big hold up but also practicality cant imagine explaining to my parents and grand parent how to update the software on their tesla. There’s a generational gap in technology usage as well. Boomers are not as savvy as our new tik tok generation.
@@TheOBDMafia I doubt it'll ever be only. You still have your classic cars on the road and the switch takes time. That's why I thought equestrian analogy was apropos, Calvary divisions meant horses through 1944. It'll come faster than people think. Almost every person I talk to sub 55 has expressed curiosity towards EVs. The main critique I hear is range and the infrastructure is handled if they can use home wiring, as an EV owner I charge not at home 3-4 times a year. As far as boomers go, the transition isn't automatic but if they did switch, most of them have kids that are adults, the kids set up the Wi-Fi connection and OTAs are automatic. Only reason I'm bullish it's coming fast is the amount of non Tesla companies creating EVs/Hybrids now, including the sports car market. It feels less like 2010 experiments and more like the switch from CD players to entertainment centers.
Evs still require oil changes...
@@jfwalken love your perspective thank you for sharing this. I m really intrigued to see how EVs continue to shape up our way of transportation. Didn’t mean for this video to be taking negatively. But I more so hopping the Ev market gives us more variety and more for the enthusiasts.

Ev enthusiasts are a thing . Me I am a true enthusiast it doesn't need just an ice engine . Hybrid cars can be stupid fast, just electric vehicles . Who am I to say what make someone avtrue car enthusiasts
I think a true enthusiast loves and appreciates all cars but EVs are strange in the sense that its a not a driving experience thats engaging. The connection we enthusiast have with the car is developed through that driving experience. The technology in EVs are cool and I really really love hybrids. As an enthusiasts i would follow Hyundai truly think they understand the consumer and enthusiast
EVs are an appliance. Our infrastructure isn't even close to being able to support them and then if we get a solar storm big enough they will be bricks. To be fair so will our modern vehicles but old carbureted vehicles will be drivable.
I feel the further we push technology the more fragile our society becomes. Not too long ago AT&T was down for a day across the country…. Imagine a server station for autonomous vehicles being highjacked 😬.
I think also going into how EV’s aren’t truly powered solely by electric energy. There’s a clip where the charging stations are being power by and Diesel generator. It’s like going from A to C just to get to B.
Yeah thats ironic and from what I know if you kill gas EVs will be much more expensive too the cost of infrastructure to switch. Its not as seamless as people think.
The chargers can be powered by any source of energy. That’s a _huge_ advantage EVs have over gas cars. It’s as simple as hooking the existing infrastructure up to solar, wind, nuclear, etc. generators when the time comes.
It seems like its still liquid fuel to electricity and thats it, but the benefit it efficiency in this case. Generators are much more efficient as compared to engines/motors. Ideally they would be powered by renewables like solar but thats not always applicable. A good example of this is edison motors where they’re making electric semis/logging trucks that are diesle fueled but electrically powered at the drive train. Energy must come from somewhere and if you can get more out of the base source then other methods like an ICE you arnt necessarily going a to c to b but rather still a to b in a slightly different method.
Yeah i will agree with the convenience and advantage except for the fact that solar farms and wind farms and especially the nuclear have significant impacts on the environment. This is not the lesser of two evils situation based on how EVs are marketed. The amount of apace required for solar farms and wind farms are tremendous and have a huge footprint that imo negate the benefits. Additionally mining lithium is not infinity and also dangerous to the environment and requires a lot more fuel to mine lithium than to make a traditional car.
I probably should have mentioned the negative effects of mining lithium. It’s probably a good case study to quantify vs carbon emissions from ICE.
While some traditionalists may miss the mechanical aspects of ICE cars, others embrace the new era of high-tech, eco-friendly performance. Electric cars are gradually shaping a new generation of car culture, focusing on performance through efficiency, mechanical optimization, advanced engineering, and sustainability. Curious what your thoughts are regarding cultural shifts influenced by electric vehicles and if they pose a threat to nostalgic cars from prior generations?
Evs are becoming popular but sales have slowed significantly. I think only electric is too much of an extreme shift. Hybrid I feel is a more practical and gradual shift. Additionally, to that the performance is there on a Hypercar level as well. I think a gradual shift towards EVs makes more sense.

Curently tuned on Cobb Access port with a pro-tune. Its not possible to go BRZ intake manifold is you wanna stay green speed compliant Imo the best way to make power on these cars is to go rotated with fueling mods fuel pumps and E85. The engines are pretty reliable if you keep up with them. Rods and pistons is all you need and you can make 400-450hp reliably. Anything above that you will be spending considerable money if you haven’t already and it will be difficult to get tuned because you will need a motec ECU and only 3 tuners I know who actually tune motec for these cars

Thank you love. Things like this for sure take a lot of perseverance and patients
I was about to say that I'm glad it went so smoothly, aside from the curse of the last bolt biting you in the rear (It's ALWAYS the last bolt that seems to give you trouble if any of them do.) then I saw those brake lines. Sucks to see (and sucks to have it happen), but thankfully it didn't cause an accident. NGL though those spider webs I was seeing under that thing had me worried for you after the last incident. Interior tear outs are never fun, the work involved, the organization of parts you pull out, and the space required to put them all (in the middle of one on my Tahoe, I may have to do half at a time due to lack of space to put all the trim/seats/carpet/headliner being pulled out). Wishing you the best of luck on that though, did you get a chance to try that free all stuff?
Its always the last bolt or the easy stuff that ends up taking the longest or being the most difficult. I have to get the car back up on stands again and trace the lines but I wont do until the parts are here. The free all is in my cart right now just forgot to order it. i will need all the help i can get with the next stuff. Thank you so much for spending your time watching the video I really appreciate you.
Dam is supposed to drop on these cars, it shows the ecu is working to save your car. If dam does not drop and you're protuned, i would be very worried that the protuner desensitized knock sensors to keep dam at 1 always
@@TheLastS209 agreed but frequent DAM drops are not normal. Being protuned wont stop it completely but when it does drop on a pro-tune something is for sure wrong ive been protuned for 5 years dam has only drop 2-3 times and its was an issue. It was 2 boost leaks and spark plugs. Regardless even if DAM does not drop your car can blow up too
I've had e tunes, one pro tune, and Ots tunes, and my dam would go back and forth for 7 years. All because of the lovely fkl crap I get. These cars are prone to knock and false knock. Dam on stage 0 starts from 688 and goes all the way up to 1. My car didn't have any fkl until 2 years after I I tuned it. Thought it was gas, thought it was the tunes, nope, nothing anyone said was the issue. If you have issues with dam dropping and having fkl get the carbon cleaned . It messes with the fkl like crazy. I'm at almost 70k and never once had an issue. I'm not sure how many miles you have, but check on that. I also run ethanol free gas, and it makes my car run way better.
Thats very interesting currently at 94k and I haven’t cleaned my valves and I run E70 on a regular. Haven’t ran an OTS map in like 3-4 years and haven’t had many issues. Very interesting that you run ethanol free gas I was told Ethanol help with pre-detonation and knock control. But thats very very interesting to see. Also did you have a Air oil separator? It helps me a-lot what are your thoughts ?
something I learned from a video a while back, when removing heavily corroded bolts (the video was about the bolts on the exhaust manifold, but it works pretty well for most others), aside from letting them swim in penetrating oil, rock them back in forth in a loosening and tightening kind of motion, if it moves a bit either way but still keeps getting bound up somewhere, apply more penetrating oil and continue. it may take a bit longer but if you need to keep those bolts or just don't want to deal with removing broken bolts, it's worth it. also good choice on dealing with that widow, to quote an old movie "KILL IT!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!"
The soaking in penetrant oil is something that does help but unfortunately the issue we ran into was the pitting of the surface which made it coarse I probably spent 3hrs hitting it with my bigger impact and trying a breaker bar. I had let it soak for a whole day and added more penetrant. i had to go to the nuclear option. The other thing thats aggravating is that on the top where the nut is you can only fit a wrench which makes it 1000x harder unless you drop the front subframe. Ive seen 3 of these in my yard in the last month and they are suffered the same fate. I m thinking of sprayings everything with peppermint oil. Hoping thats keeps them away
@@TheOBDMafia peppermint does seem to work surprisingly well for such critters, are you able to fit a breaker bar or cheater tube on your wrench in that tight of a space? if it budged at all then that rocking back and forth (tightening and loosening again, or sometimes tightening it first instead of trying to loosen, so long as you can get it to budge) really helps a ton with working that penetrating fluid in there. though with as bad as those were pitted and/or stripped, for sure there was no reusing those bolts. also, that PB blaster stuff works fairly well, but the best penetrating oil I have ever used was this stuff called "free all" came in a silver can, I tend to have 3 or 4 different types of penetrating oil on hand if one isn't working in a situation, free all seems to work best almost all the time (for me anyways, maybe its placebo idk)
I had 2 style breaker bars one low profile and and that would not work on the top. only on the bottom thats why I was using the wrench I would have needed a big steel pipe to go with the wrench but Unfortunately only had my floor jack bar. The proper way would be to have drop the front sub frame but I m limited with no hoist. I am for sure getting the that Free all stuff i need a better penetrant. Thank you for that. Ps ended the video but I waiting on some more parts ! To continue

The bolts are your new enemy 😂

Good stuff
@@joestasi8329 thank you
Great vid! Lots of truth in here.
Thank you for watching brother and thank you. Would love to hear your thoughts as well?
@@TheOBDMafia Honestly I'm just getting back into after a few decades, been to a few "cars and Coffee" meets where everyone stands around the McLaren/Porsche guys talking real-estate while my wife and I are talking to the Datsun 510 guy about the story of his car lol. It's been interesting so far. Almost went to an "event" that turned into a take over (pure crap) so we are being careful about where we go. We used to do our racing out in industrial areas in the dead of night where no one was around but this new stuff is just stupid, not car people just internet clowns.
The car scene is a very polarized space at this moment in time interesting to see the different groups of people. Japan is an example of proper street racing they go to places were no ones is in the dead of night but that code has been lost among enthusiasts glad you are getting back into it there are a few people who still loves and appreciate the simple things. With social media everyone wants to show off now a days.
My condolences man. Still remember when my dad had to get rid of his old toyota. I've never really understood people who say that it's just a car either. My car has been more dependable and empathetic to me than most people who are in my life... which is kind of dumb to say but it's true. As long as you appreciated and loved that car while you had it, I think that's all you can do. People who refuse to think about stuff like this inevitably get broken when the time comes to let go. People who embrace it (i.e. a lot of nilhists) become ungrateful. I never liked the idea of being anti-materialistic; we live in a material world and the things we make are how we connect to others. Through that car, your story is now connected to someone else's and the love and care you put into it could be the reason they make new connections and learn and grow.
Yeah I was old enough to remember the some of the cars my dad used to have I remember he used to have an Acura intergra coupe was sad when he got rid of it. I agree if you reason with not just that but anything its easy to let go. I think you said it perfectly the things we make is how we connect with other and that car now connects me with that person and i know they will make great connections from time to come. Really appreciate your comments on this glad to hear from you as always
@@TheOBDMafia yeah man, stay blessed
Likewise brother
That car is the one car I completely regret selling, missed it so much Wrx? Nah And this truck I’ve got rn? Can’t wait for it to go But the forester I loved, just had to get rid of it along with the Wrx to get this truck. But shoot, wish i didn’t
Mann I wish i had the money to but the WRX what a relic that was. I have an S10 now not sure if thats the move but it chose me. Something about that forester through was special.
Space certainly comes at a premium these days, and it's hard to have enough of it. Not to mention paying insurance and registration for multiple vehicles gets costly very quickly. Now you not only have the cash from the selling price, but also the money saved on insurance, registration, future maintenance on the vehicle, etc. that can go into a new project, such as your 4.3 s10 ;) or more "responsible" things like fixing up or improving your home in areas it may need, or even funding other hobbies you may have.
You are correct sir about space I m getting to the point where i need a part time valet. It would be cool to have some resources like these big channels to be able to keep the cars that I fell in-love with. But selling them or giving them away to people in need is fulfilling. Having money (cash) in this economy is important and I am very very excited to get started on that I have a few things i need to clear up in the driveway first. The home improvement stuff is super important as well. Glad you mentioned that. Thanks again for reaching out always great hearing from you man.
I have a 2000 forester S and i dont see alot of content on them. I keeping mine until the day i drop. Ive had it 7 years now and it has seen 4 engines. I just got finished putting it back to 100% mechanically. I have a second car now so im gonna go balls to the wall with my fozzy. Its old and unique and performs just as well as the gc8, so instead trying to go ungodly fast im dedicating most of the work to the suspension. I like grip racing so im gonna turn it into a nimble highway nugget
There is nothing on them on youtube but its a pretty large community. I really love this car and I would like to keep it as long as I can. Its a very very unique platform and they dont make car like this no more. With just minor mods this car handles better than 90% of car Ive. Seen and been in. AWD and planted to the ground. Keep it alive for us brother. Thank you so much for watching.
Great story man. I have owned a lot of vehicles in my 14 years of driving, but I have yet to own a Subaru. Waiting to find a stick legacy wagon
Manual wagon with AWD hard to beat that. Hope you find one soon brother. Thanks for watching 🤙🏾
Man i love how much you went in depth on this topic! Ive been struggling with DAM drop since I went stage 2 and this clarified some things I did not know. Also What you said is true, cobbs off the shelf tunes arent horrible, Ive been running stage1/stage 2 for almost 90k miles and my wrx is at 101k miles as of today. The engine is in great condition, only thing i ever had go bad was 02 sensors and speed sensors.
Thank you so much for watching brother. I am glad that this video is helpful I remember us talking about this a while ago since we went on the OTS maps. I hope this solves the issue you are having.
