Ted Bullpit from Kingswood country sees AFL on TV and has a few words to say. This is what most rugby league fans think of aerial ping pong, the number two girls sport in Australia

This is more like, "What AFL fans THINK Rugby fans are like." Notice they never mention Rugby League, just Rugby (although I've yet to meet a Victorian who can tell the difference.) And this was 5-10 years before there was an NRL. Or an AFL, for that matter.

@@Soulman786- A shortfall of just over 3,000. Big deal. It would have been a full house if Penrith played Canterbury but the fact that Melbourne only has fair weather supporters resulted in a small number of no shows. League is a better game to let followers choose between attendance and watching it on the telly. Nothing wrong with that. More money is made from broadcasting rights than gate takings.

It’s hardly a national sport. Barely made inroads in NSW and QLD
Cricket is the only national sport, over half the population live over the Barassi line, where VFL is not anywhere near as popular as League
@@Peter-wd2ho Barely made inroads? 🤣 Mate, the Sydney Swans have existed for 42 years. Brisbane has been around for 38 years. There was even an AFL Grand Final held in QLD. But yeah, let's pretend that NSW and QLD are the be-all and end-all when it comes to sport in Australia. 😜
@@Nortwest Mate, it's AFL. The VFL is a separate league but still run by the AFL. 5 states are involved in the Australian Football League, and soon a 6th state will be a part of it. Games are also played in both Aussie territories. Cricket may be a national sport. But again, it's been brought over by the poms. AFL is the most popular game in Australia. That's just the truth. Cricket is only the 4th most popular game, after AFL, NRL and A League.
