Do they eat fungus gnats/gnat flies? When do they start eating flies? Around what month?
@@rageoftheredphoenix pinguicula (Butterworts) are particularly good gnat eaters. As for flies sarracenia (trumpet pitchers) outdoors are the best fly eaters. Sundews can catch flies as well
I look forward to more information on how you rinse your peat.
I will get on that soon!
@@capecarnivores thank you
Really love the automated heliamphora tank. Planning to make a similar one myself, thanks to your inspiration. How does the tube from the pump convert to the irrigation line? Is it a standard piece that you can buy? Thanks again!
Yes the line is 10mm from the pump, I put a 10mm barbed elbow on with a short section of pipe I heated and forced onto the elbow that plugs into the sprayer line, not sure what the dimension of that is. I didn't have to custom build any components
Enjoyed the scenic shots between talking about these awesome plants. Thanks for the share!
Love your video
@@mrbiettuot4106 thanks!
cisti are straight up carnivorous poppies
Thank you
seeing that bees hive made myself thinking, how would it be some honey with exclusive CP flower's polen 😂
that would be a fun experiment!
amazing part of the world thank you sharing cheers from Australia
great to see so many cistifloras in nature, wonderful flowers :) I have one too but mine never flowered.

Next time :)
Fantastic collection!
Awesome plants
awesome collection of plants cheers from Queensland Australia
Nice plants, I´m a drosera fan, I like your winter growing snd tuberous sundews. In my conditions is difficult to grow them so I just have tropical , subtropical , pygmy and Quensland´s sisters sundews.
Glad to see it's still doing well!
Great greenhouse and plants. I remember your pics when you just started building.
It has been almost 2 years now since I started building it! Time flies...
@@capecarnivores Yes, and for the next few years you'll be making little changes and adjustments to the greenhouse. Never ends.
Wonderful video I was seated the entire length. Thanks for sharing 🫶
What are the soil ratios in % ?
He said 3 parts, so maybe 33% per part. We need clarification from Cape Carnivore.
Super cool video
How and what do they eat?
Humans, violently
This is a really good and useful video for plant lovers.
A man with a passion is so much more inspiring than all the politicians and lawyers.
Wt the id name of this vft??
i cannot believe you didnt harvest any plant. comeon thats a wasted opportunity!
@@ericnyamu9981 that would be illegal
Awesome video, thank you. Those Drosera, orchids and habitats are fantastic. Have you ever considered doing a video on succulents?
@@nigelking4892 I would if I knew much about them :)
how would you describe the soil composition? 3 parts sand to 1 part peat?
@@ConstantinBoca it's almost entirely sand and maybe a tiny organic part. No peat really outside of mountain bogs
wonderful sundews, great to see them in their natural habitat. Nice video :)
I was asking my wife to be gentler with the plants while she was helping me with the black traps.. I'm getting conflicting information on how to deal with black traps and whether or not to clip them off? what do you do with the black traps that look to be dying?
If a trap/leaf is completely dead, you can cut it off, but you dont necessarily have to. If you're keeping them outside the whole year around and experience cold winters, and they get enough fresh air outside, then mold shouldn't be a problem. But if you're keeping them inside over the winter (still requires cool temperatures), then it's better to cut them off, since the chance of mold is much higher. It's especially problematic if they are kept indoors at cool temperatures, not enough air circulation and if the soil is too wet.
When i split and repot mine, they get shocked and their growth slows or stops for the year, and there's a chap who just drops them on the table, crazy!
Try putting a few drops of "RESCUE REMEDY " in the initial first 2 sprays after repotting - it helps the plants recover faster & better . It's also good for people from Conception to Grave , as well as skittish pets - it helps calm them down . Good luck with your future repots , using RESCUE REMEDY ( it's got a 5 year + , shelf life .
Here I am,,, a new subscriber,,, these are beautiful vfts😊
What kind of sand??
@@oneeyedjack8806 Silica sand/quartz sand, aka pool filter sand.
@@housecreeper I don't use any stones under the soil. Just carnivorous plant mix all the way through so it can effectively wick water :)
If you must use sand , use river sand , it's coarser & allows water to flow thru easier .
great to see these sundews in nature. I have a cistiflora but it never flowered in my setup,so nice to see how it looks like.
Beautiful area you are in, can't wait to see more
wow awesome they all seem to be winter grower very similar conditions to what most of the sundews grow like here in Australia
good stuff, keep it up! I've never heard about the sand having effect on the color before, thanks!
Glad to find another channel showcasing carnivorous plants in the wild
Thank you for posting!
good stuff
Very cool! What would be a good budget to build something like this?
