Btw, the Hunger Games has a giant plot hole. They can add and remove the beasts and other things on the fly, and that means they can remove the poisonous berries as well. So they didn’t have to change the rules at all.
You are very good at this. If you’re looking to do more, I suggest doing a follow up video after you’ve gone through the comments to let us know if your reaction or interpretation has shifted at all.

Well, I’m trying to figure out the plot of the story and how I can weave the theme of the story in seamlessly but it’s hard and I’ve been avoiding writing🙂↕️ plus school is starting for me on Sunday and my vacation’s about to end so time is not on my side but I’ll figure it out. Sending my love to you from Kuwait your videos are so much fun to watch!❤❤

British metal band Iron Maiden made a song based on Rime of the Ancient Mariner way back in 1984 and is the last song on their album Powerslave. I highly recommend checking it out. 😊
Thank you, Megan so much for reacting to this song. It’s one of my favorites from Taylor. And it definitely has helped me after my divorce trying to make sense of the demise of my marriage. Taylor is my second therapist.
Not sure if you ever heard the story of her writing/making this song. Liz Rose actually told the story and backed up by Andrea Swift, T’s mom. Taylor came in the studio and they said you can tell she was in a really sad mood, really down. She just picked up her guitar walked over to the mic and just started playing or better yet ranting. As many of us can relate after failed relationships where we were hurting very badly. She just kept going on and on and on thinking of different things that happened in the demise of the relationship. They said after a couple minutes, the band just started joining in and playing along with her. She said it actually might’ve been more like 15 minutes long. It just kept going on forever until she stopped. After which Andrea, Taylor‘s mom, walked over to the sound engineer and asked, “ you didn’t by any chance record any of that did you?” The sound engineer just smiled and handed her a CD with the recording on it. When they decided to put it on the album, her label basically told her that it was way too long and she had to cut it down. So it became five minutes long. But in all honesty, 10 minutes is the actual length of the song originally. I don’t even listen to the five minute song anymore.
Lmfao I don't write novels, i write ttrpg campaigns where I use material from my players backstory to buff out the world, and i agree. Track the subplots 😂 but as a game master, it is ALWAYS amazing when the campaign has been going on a while and something you never intended to be of note hits home with your players and theyre like "OH MY GOD! YOUVE BEEN PLANNING THIS FOR MONTHS!!" 😂And I'm like, yep... That was completely intentional 🥴🙃😋
That’s magical 🥰🤩
You mean the sister didn't go on a secret vacation to Macau? This is much less interesting...
🤣
The dude fighting the dragon was Wolverine, he heals fast. One day after heart surgery the morphine is still working--it's two days after that would be unrealistic. ;) The sister went on a secret vacation to Macau and no one ever knew. But she knew. She knows everything...
Omg lol 😆 not the morphine
Rest well, and dream of future novels you write also without plot holes.
When George Bailey was walking with Mary Hatch to her mother's home after the school dance, George made a wish and explained it to her, "I'm going to see the world! And then I'm going to build things. I'm going to build skyscrapers a hundred stories high. I'm going to build bridges a mile long". Later in the story, after George and Mary had been married several years, and after he discovered that $8,000 was missing from the Bailey Brothers Building and Loan, George returned home to his family despondent. In an outward burst of emotion, he kicked over a model bridge and clobbered a model skyscraper into pieces -- he is separating himself from his dreams. Those two scenes are like brackets, one opening an idea, and the second closing it. Every year when I watch "It's a Wonderful Life" that bridge kicking scene always grabs me in the gut.
Yes, 100%!! So heart-wrenching
what a beautiful song and and omg, you are stunningly perfect!
please, dont ever become a stranger who's laugh i could recognize anywhere" will go down in history as one of the saddest phrases EVER
Omg yes! Been waiting for another Taylor Swift song analysis video from you. Honestly, the way you do them is so masterful, giving us historical context in regards to her themes and references. Please keep them coming 🙏🏻 ❤
thank you so much! Really grateful you enjoy them ^.^
"the tennis court was covered up with some tent-like thing" always seemed kinda jarring to me because she's usually very poetic and articulate with her lyrics (especially on folkmore) but now that i think about it, it makes a lot of sense from this character's perspective. she's conning rich people so that would imply she doesn't respect them and might even feel some disdain towards them, and tennis is pretty well known for being a rich people sport, so by calling it a tent-like thing she kinda dismisses the whole thing and she's just like "i don't even know what that's called and i don't care, that's some rich people sh*t"
love this interpretation!
i also think "we were just kids, babe" refers to Patti Smith's memoir "Just Kids", especially because she mentions Patti Smith in the title track: "you're not Dylan Thomas, i'm not Patti Smith". as in, in the beginning they thought (or he made her think) they were the cool kids, that their romance was going to be legendary, but it actually turned out to be just momentary. which, understandably, made her feel like an idiot (she refers to the two of them as idiots in TTPD, and she refers to herself as a fool in loml) WHCH IS SO SAD!!!!
UGH
this was wonderful! i really enjoyed the literary history lesson, it was very concise and helpful. i've also seen some ppl pointing out that in the chorus she's kind of going for a corporation metaphor, when she says "who do i have to speak to about if they can redo the prophecy?" it's almost like she's asking to speak with the manager (which i think is pretty funny), while also saying words like "company" ("just someone who wants my company", even though it doesn't make sense in the context, the word still has a double meaning) and "don't want money" (almost like going to the store to return something, in this case the prophecy. usually people want their money back, but she just wants a different prophecy). which can also tie in to "spending my last coin so someone will tell me it'll be okay", as in she doesn't want her money back, she would even get rid of all her money just to get this one thing that seems unachievable. i thought that was an interesting interpretation, and i definitely think the poeple who caught that are onto something!
Oooh yes, very cool! Love this take
as you said, august is pretty simple, it's repetitive and has few descriptions, but i think that's it's done intentionally to highlight the fact that she didn't actually know james that well, she's just holding on to the few memories she has with him, whereas cardigan is very specific bc betty has a lot more to say about him (which is both showed by all her descriptions AND told, with her repeating the line "i knew you"). i absolutely love that contrast, i think it's so cleverly written!
For me Holy Ghost also means he appearing like a ghost from her past and also offering things that are just a fantasy, a ghost because it’s never real
For me the whole album shows us how much Taylor let her expectations take over her head. She was coming from a long relationship that was probably very frustrating because she endured it with the hope it would be “the one”, and left after trying everything to make it. Her fear of being alone is what I think what made her fantasize so much about Healy, sin such intensity that she transformed every little thing into something way bigger than it was. Not saying he was innocent, but I think a big part of her suffering in this period was because she saw in him what she wanted to see. She was so desperate to “change de prophecy” that she started to make connections that weren’t there (thinking they were meant to be just because they knew each other from a long time ago) and to believe lies that were completely obvious because she needed to believe there is a soulmate for her somewhere
So, so true! And so sad T.T
Hey fellow poet. Keep teaching. ❤️
Awesome information, thank you Megan I really needed to hear this. Have no idea where to begin. I'm starting a Blog and want to start by telling my Story for the first Blog article. Outline will be very helpful for me. Thank you. I have subscribed to your channel. Thanks
Hey Larry! So glad this was helpful for you!! :) Love that you're starting a blog, too
i think "every bait and switch was a work of art" could also have a double meaning, one could be that he tricked her and lead her on, but it could also mean that every questionable thing she did to finally get him was a work of art. cause she mentions earlier in the song "there was one prize i'd cheat to win"
Does "so long" have the same double meaning in the USA as it does in the UK? It can mean "for a long time" or "goodbye".
Yes ^.^ hence the fun (and heartbreaking) double reading in the song 😣
Seems the link for the wayfinder program doesn't work. It directs to the site, but an empty page.
Thanks for letting me know! I was tinkering with my site a bit yesterday. It should be back up now ^.^
"sweet disposition" by the temper trap is jake's favorite song. easter egg there.
Thanks for including text of the song lyrics. Also, automations work well transcribing your voice.
So glad to hear it!
Reminds me of Miss Havisham. All stayed in place, frozen, gathering dust.
"I've seen writers get through all of those steps, and then it's time to start writing and that's where they get stuck because of perfectionism. And it's the worst, because it's like, you've done so much, you've come so far, I don't want you to get stuck at this point." Okay, Megan. Okay. I hear ya. sigh... lol
🤣🤭
Yes, but if I don't shower or eat I can get so much more writing time. Plus, not showering would eliminate all that pesky socializing.
I mean hey, if that’s what you want to do 🤷♀️😆
Can u please do logical?
Great tutorial. I Will suggest this video to my university students. Writing a novel or a thesis are closely related :) Thanks
So glad you found it helpful :) I hope your students do as well!
@@meganmaclaine I'm sure of that :) Tks
You're like Rory from Gilmore Girls
Thanks. I enjoyed the analysis and learning more about the poem and song connections.
So glad to hear it! ^.^
On So Long London when she says "I left all I knew, you left me at the house by the Heath" I also interpret as her sacrificing very important things to be with him and is left emptied of these things, but he didn't lose anything, he didn't put in anything at least of equal value to try to make it work. Also, on "I died on the altar waiting for the proof / You sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days" I think she's talking about the death of her as a public figure and how he tried to kill this part of her (or maybe she thinks he did kill her bcuz she didn't know if she was going to be as successful again) to no purpose at all, like he made her give up so much for what? She's still waiting for proof to justify such sacrifice. On The Alchemy, I think the white wine is a reference to how much she likes this person, because she loves wine, and she drinks white wine mostly (or think she does idk), so being with him is the same as drinking white wine, something she enjoys. And when it comes to the trophy line, I don't think she's referring to herself, but their relationship, like if there is no point on making this perfect, then what's the reward? that I'm the one your coming to when you celebrate a victory, that we're each other's person. At this point maybe she's learnt that she doesn't really need to give up things and force things in the name of working hard to stay with someone and be married, as she did in So Long, like they only need to be each other's person and the rest will come naturally. On The Black Dog, I think is interesting that she repeats "you forgot to turn it off", I think she is talking about her heart, because it's after she says his actions pierced new holes in her heart, maybe she's saying "when you left you should've made me stop loving you so your actions don't affect me like this, so you don't pierce new holes in me when you move on".
Can you make a video on the "In summation" by Taylor? It gives so much context to the whole album
Oh I love listening to other people's interpretations of songs! I could never figure out what she meant by some of these lyrics that especially on this album I thought some of it was just nonsensical, but there is a meaning behind it, you just have to look deeper.
