Ep 28: Breaking Free from Micromanagement
Welcome to Unhooked with Mia and Allison where we’ll unhook our bras, take a deep cleansing breath, and dive into the topic of transformation. Join us as we explore what it means to expand past the edges of our comfort zones so we can generate more of what we want in our lives.
In today’s podcast, we explore micromanaging. We discuss how it manifests, why people do it, the impact on others, and what practices help us to check ourselves. We use real-life examples of both personal and professional micromanaging behaviors.
Key Takeaways:
Micromanaging is a method of inserting ourselves.
It usually leads to the micromanager having to do it all.
Some of the impacts include less creativity, no owne...

The entire video. It's really easy to want to show everything we can do immediately. It's not showing of but being proud of our sense of self. However if people only see 20% of your iceberg they will assume that is all that there is. You decide a lot of people's expectations of you.

As a listener, I enjoy the radom multi hour long monologs some people put out. But I know there is a time and place for everything! Honestly it's a skill to be able to constantly chatter! If you can't help yourself or you enjoy speaking look for creative ways to make use of the skill! But make sure to have enough empathy to listen when needed!

Lastly, I wanted to listen to this on Spotify yesterday, but realised this episode was yet to drop, so watching it here, I feel I would have missed out on so many things if I had listened on there, example, I won't be able to see the drawing board and Mia's make the sound effect and many more. Moving forward, I think listening/watching it here is perfect for me.

I must first say, when Allison said she wakes up 2am everyday for a week, I checked my time and it was exactly 2am, and guess what? Am laying beside my snoring husband...lol Wow!!! Getting a shout out is sweet, I can't even lie 😂😂, Thank you guys. The calendar is big, I had also never done it before, never seen any reason to, but now, I feel motivated to. Mia's sound effect was hilarious.. I can relate with Mia's idea of what gets in the way, my head is filled with what had gone wrong in 2023(it's about to be in the past), also, I love Allison's point too, what about the people that thinks our plans are wierd? Regardless, I plan to try creating my own vision board, mine would be written or drawing, and playing is my favourite, so am sure it's going to be fun, but Mia talked about the action part and I was like, there we go. Take away. 1. Seeing how long it takes Allison 50 years for a breakthrough, how about I go slow with my self and enjoy the process. 2. Playfully sketch out my vision board. 3. Build a tiny practise on a daily basis that can help me get there. 4. Get supported. Personally, I hate to make commitment, because I get bored of old things and always love to spice things up a little, so I am present to a little bit resistance in doing it, but I am going to do it, and I heard Mia said it's okay for the plan to change, that's refreshing. Also, Mia's talk about swimming makes me want to go learn how to swim, maybe I might have her same experience, who knows!!! Hmmm, that would be on my vision board, I love water. I am present to so much joy, and ease on your faces... It would be hard to understand what I had written if you didn't watch the show. Needed to say that. Love you both.

Mia says yes:: Because she believes people to only ask for reasonable things, so saying "No" cannot have been a choice to their brilliant request. Mia's view of the world when they say No. I said it brilliantly in a beautiful way, how could they have said "No", that makes them bad, just like how she feels bad when she is at a No. Allison says Yes to everything: Because it's automatic(From a place of no access to her own desires) and secondly, to fit in. Allison's view of the world when they make requests... Look at that, common, you could have done that yourself , exactly how she feels when she ask for what she want. Take away:: 1)We judge people operating from the opposite lense 2) the only way we can be at choice is when our goals/desires are clearly defined. 3) our desires are deeply inside of us and can only come to the surface through support, except ofcourse one is a genius, well am not. 4) Without support, we would only ask or have desires that are reasonable. Which leave's me with the question of What am I condemning that person for? As a start point. Comment I am always amazed at how you guys discuss difficult topics with so much ease, I am so happy for your friendship and grateful that I get to experience a glimpse of your experiences through this podcast...Thank you and weldone. Ps:: Acknowledgement is a Must for me, Its done out of the love I have for you both and the art..Don't get tired peeps. Saying this to maybe humbly oppose Allison, that we play this way to be safe...oh, I think she said "Sometimes"

Thanks for sharing here Sherifat. Putting people on pedestals is normal, AND it costs us something. When we see ourselves as better or lesser than someone else, we've greatly constricted our options. Possibility is diminished. I wonder what would be possible for you if you related to all people through their essences?

Your video popped up on my YT feed and I felt there was something relevant to my current situation in it. My dad is currently experiencing a dark night of the soul and is in denial about it, despite many people around him becoming increasingly worried. As I fly back to be by his side tomorrow, the message of faith and trust really landed in me. Choosing to believe in the wholeness within each of us, while having compassion for the other and ourselves. It's profound, it's difficult, and it's beautiful at the same time. The eternal question of how we support our loved ones in periods of crisis. This reminds me of a quote from the Bible: "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." We may not be able to change others we care about, but we can show them how much we care, love, and believe in them. Much love to both of you and your families 🙏❤

    • @thoughtly

Great question! I don’t believe that there’s an “appropriate” level of self awareness. Rather I believe it’s our relationship to ourselves that warrants how much we can improve in ourselves. For instance, if we use self awareness to beat ourselves up, then I doubt we can be better. Make sense?
