Smooth movement.. Is it has dual pump- and load sensitive hydraulic system? I have Rippa 17 but cannot move smoothly...hard to control
Have you given up your channel? I think your videos are quite cosy and informative.
Hi there, thanks for being cosy and informed. My granddaughter did all the filming and editing for all of my videos but this year she went off to university, so we basically came to a stand still. Hopefully our videos have helped some folks making a decision as whether or not to buy a mini excavator, that was my aim. I've been watching some of your videos and really enjoy the variety of tasks you do with your digger. take care.
good vid mate thanks for sharing
Cheers buddy, thanks for watching.
haha, I waved to our local cop as I was heading fishing on my truck without registration. I also like the trailer; it's just what I need.
Great idea! How long is the attachment? Looks to be about 250 cm.
Hi George it's just over 2 metres long and works well, especially now I'm getting more experienced with it. cheers.
@@dinomite_diggers3453 thank you for your response. I’m trying to find one in the US. No success yet though. May have to make one myself.
@@georgeharvey3062 No I couldn't find anything like that here either, that's why we had to design our own. I'd like to try it a metre or so longer.
@@dinomite_diggers3453 is your machine a 2 ton? It looks similar in size to my 1.8 ton. Do you think your machine is heavy enough to go out another meter? Don’t want you to tip into the creek. 😂
@@georgeharvey3062 Yes it is 2 ton, it's only 200 kgs heavier than the 1.8 so they're going to be pretty similar anyway. I'm confident it would cope ok with another metre on the extension because it is only dragging the stuff towards me and not lifting anything. What brand is your 1.8 machine? Are you contracting or just working on your own place?
Hi, my friend. I saw your video, that's interesting. We think maybe we could cooperate
Hello Wyatt sorry I have only just found you comment. So what did you have in mind? Cheers
Hello, thx for your videos, really good. Do you have any references for your two trailers ? Regardss. Patrick
Hello Patrick, thanks for watching. I was so impressed the way my digger trailer was built I went back to the same engineer when I wanted a small tipper trailer. I am very happy with the end result and am confident both trailers will outlast me. Unfortunately the company that built these trailers has since gone out of business which is a shame because they made very good products. Cheers.
So good. Love the trailer. Tandem axles will pack the load all day long! Terrific upgrade! Gotta love the power dump feature. Super versatile. I don't know what I'd do without mine - which, after 11 years, needs some repairs. Here's to progress and the year ahead. Terrific video as always. PS - I'd die for galvanized. Mine is rusting away as I write this. haha.
Thanks Howard, yes I'm really pleased with this trailer and I'm quite confident that I will start falling apart long before the trailer does. Oh that's right, I've already started. Maybe if you stop writing your trailer will stop rusting, possibly.
hi, l get it some think like back blade it like you and then fix a 10ft 2x10 board on my blade makes a lovely job and then give it a good track in. keep up the good work like the vids. adrian
Thanks for the comments Adrian and thanks for watching.
New subscriber - nicely done. You did a great job of operating the extension on its inaugural outing. Love the idea. Gonna have to get me one of those made. You've got nice long tracks on that machine. The short tracks on my 1.8 ton are one of my small complaints. On a future purchase, I'll pay more attention to that. You've got a great property. I'll be watching the rest of your videos soon.
I look forward to watching more of your videos and tapping in to your wisdom.
Is there a email I can contact you at I had some questions regarding the excavators
You can contact me at thediggerman87@gmail.com
Very good video. Those were some pretty deep roots for small bushes. The root rake works very well. The reason it works very well for you is because how smoothly the controls operate. Your Rhino operates very nicely. Quite smoothly. Great job teaching the kids how to work. I don't blame kids for not knowing how to work these days. I blame the adults for not doing there job to teach them. We in our home do our job as adults. 😂
Thank you for your excellent comments. cheers.
Bonjour... Très bon travail... dit moi... c'est une 2tonne.?
Yes you are right it is 2 ton.
Hows the XN20 hold up? how many hrs on yours? any problem? thanks great video
Hello I'm very happy with the XN20, it does everything I ask of it and is running really well. Just a bit over 400 hours so far. Cheers.
@@dinomite_diggers3453 thanks for reply. That’s very nice! I am getting some next month can’t wait they show up. Seems like good build quality
Any new digger videos of this fine machine coming out soon?
We do have more material filmed but my granddaughter who does all my filming and editing has got too busy with school and exams and stuff. She's supposed to be teaching me how to do the editing but it's very hard to teach and old dog new tricks. Hopefully soon we'll get it together and get something posted. Thanks for watching.
Excellent video and excellent trailer! What’s the Captiva tow rating? I thought they where 1.5 or 2 T maximum Towing the digger and trailer would be overloaded I would think?
Yes you're right it's only rated at 2 T. Originally I bought the digger just to work on my own property but people see it and want jobs done. The last few months I've been helping 1 week per month clean up silt after a bad cyclone on the East coast 200 kilometres away so have had to upgrade to a ute rated at 3.5 T towing. Cheers.
@@dinomite_diggers3453 yeah fair enough, wasn’t saying it in a bad way I was just wondering because here in Austrialia that’s what they are rated at and was wondering I’m in the same boat The digger and trailer for me is over what my ford territory is rated to tow (2.3T) so like you I will have to upgrade mine to tow etc These videos really have me wondering about the 2T rhino machines I’ve owned the 1.2T rhino and that was good for its size The 2T machine looks far far superior Cheers
@@Drew_peaballs_128 Yes the 2T is a much superior machine. Better built, more stable and much smoother to operate. At the start I bought the 1.2T Rhino with a 3 cylinder Yanmar but my place is quite steep and rocky and I was either going to break it or kill myself on it. The best thing I ever did was swap it for the 2T machine which was a demo model with 50 hours on it. Every time I operate this digger I feel pleased that I didn't stick with the smaller one.
Does yours have two speeds?
Yes it does have two speeds which is helpful if you are walking the machine any distance.
@@dinomite_diggers3453 a lot of the machines being offered these days are only slow speed and way too slow. Anyway, I really like what your 2-ton unit can do. Lifts heavy stuff for sure. Thanks for the videos
@@cdmajesty4803 Yes you are right, for a start I had a Rhino XN12 and it was painfully slow. It was quite dangerous too as when coming down a steep hill it would start free wheeling. Thanks for watching.
@@dinomite_diggers3453 does your xn 20 have a safety device built in to make it safer on hills so you don't freewheel?
@@cdmajesty4803 It must have because it just goes the same speed uphill or downhill. The higher speed is good on the flat ground but a bit weak to use on the hills.
Really helpful video .I thank you personally God bless .
Thanks for watching. cheers
never heard off that stuff here in the BOP never seen it only in gizzy
It is quite common, mainly used in European trucks and tractors. Don't really know how effective it is but no doubt someone will be making money from it.
Hello, how big is that bucket? I have a Chinese 1-ton but I think this model will be my next buy.
The bucket is 800 mm wide. I started off with a 1.2 ton model then upgraded to this 2 ton and have never regretted it. The 2 ton is so much better built, better to operate and much more stable.
@@dinomite_diggers3453 Sounds great.
How long did you go with? If you did it again what would you recommend?
The extension is 2 metres long but I'd be keen to try 3 metres. Each time I use it I'm slowly getting better with it, when you pull it in you have to crowd the opposite way to what you would with a bucket on, and that doesn't come naturally. Cheers
I have a small dump trailer. I add a wireless controller from a harbor fright 2500 pound winch cost about 50.00 a couple years ago. Then add a nother hand controller from harbor fright it cost about 65.00. It is a big difference. Save half the steps.
Yes I think that'll be the way I go too at some stage. cheers
@Dinomite_Diggers I'm adding a wirless to another dump trailer now. Tractor supply has a controller for about 59.00 and a wirless remote for about 39.00 I'm going to try to wire the remote in. I will be cutting the factory plug off. If so cheapest way to add a controller. Not as nice as harbor fright one and about 25.00 cheaper. I will be making a video on it what I'm doing.
Hi, looking for some advice. They also make a 1000mm tilt bucket, do you think that might be too big for a 1 ton machine? Thanks.
Hello Simon, I'm comfortable with a 800mm bucket on my 2 ton machine but I personally think a 1000mm tilt bucket would be a bit much for a 1 ton machine. When you consider the weight of the bucket plus the tilt ram, add on the weight of the material and it gets to be quite a lot for a little digger. If you have a quick hitch that puts the bucket a bit further out from the machine which does make a difference to stability. I use the tilt bucket as much if not more than all the other attachments combined and I've never really had any desire to get a bigger bucket. That's my own opinion but I'm just an old guy playing around on my little Chinese digger, I'm certainly no expert on such things. Cheers
@@dinomite_diggers3453 Thanks for that. Your reasoning is exactly what I was thinking. I contacted the dealer (I'm in UK) and he assures me that it will be OK for a 1000mm tilt since I only want to use it for grading and spreading top soil. If it becomes a problem I'll buy a smaller bucket, since they're so inexpensive. We seem to have very similar grounds maintenance needs for a Chigger. Thanks for your content, it's helped me make the decision to buy one.
Hopefully the digger driver will get better with practice but very impressive filming and editing. Nice trailer but.
Yes it is a nice trailer but remember you can't teach an old dog new tricks.🤪
Nice trailer, how long did you have to wait for it, around this area those trailer are very popular and big $. We can tow them with a farm tractor with a triangle reflector on the back.
Yep I'm really pleased with the trailer. It was only 3 weeks after final confirmation that I picked it up ready for work. Cheers
Nice set up mate. When loading a trailer never load over cab as you risk hitting the vehicle or killing someone.
It's quite tight where I turn around there so I always turn before loading the trailer, which means the car is really facing the wrong way when I'm loading but it's not dangerous at all, as often happens distances in the video are quite deceptive. As far as killing someone goes it's ok because I'm actually deaf so would have to listen to the screaming and I have the gear to dig the grave. Got it covered. cheers.
@@dinomite_diggers3453 I like the way you think mate. If it was the safety inspector you would get a medal haha
Great to see the new little tipper. Will make moving soil around a lot faster and easier. I like my little truck with 4WD plus high and low range. Keep the old wheelbarrow but - all the new stuff around now is rubbish quality. Cheers Dave.
Thanks Dave, just remember it was you that convinced me to get a tipper. I bought that wheelbarrow in 1980 so it's probably out of warranty now but still plenty of life left in it yet. Cheers.
Looks good to me and it looks like fun too 🙂Hope the digger is still going good for you!? how many hrs have you done on it now...
Good to hear from you Dan, are you still in Gisborne area? Hopefully the fact you are watching RUclips means you have stayed safe with all that's happened up there. Did you get yourself a digger in the end? I'm still very happy with mine, coming up to 300 hrs now and going good. Got myself a little tip trailer now (next video) which is a real game changer for me. Do you want to buy a worn out shovel? Take care bud.
@@dinomite_diggers3453 yes we are all good thanks but some of our family and friends not so lucky but. My family have actually moved back to Australia in Wollongong NSW for the last 2 months now due to health reasons. Funny i was watching Daves from TreeChange and then seen your comments too. Hope you guys didnt cop to much of the cyclone down your way?
That sort of job is more suitable for a skid steer but still doable and like you said better that shovel and wheel barrow. Good job. I reakon a good truck driver could have ran that out a little bit for you but things look different in person than on camera. You get a better finish back blading to.
Probably if they got someone in with a skid steer they would have had to pay full rates. But by getting a dottery old guy on a Rhino they got a very low budget job done. Because I wasn't going to be there when the gravel arrived I got them to dump it in heaps so it didn't block access. Are you still gold hunting?
@@dinomite_diggers3453 yeah fair enough mate. You got the job done for them 👍. I’m still hunting for gold yep!
Viel Glück mit ihrer Maschine! Grüße aus Bayern
Thanks for watching Marcus and best wishes from New Zealand.
Hi. Thanks for you videos. I'm thinking about to buy the same model. You have your excavator already about 1 year. Have you got any problems with it? And how many hours have it already?
Hello thank you for watching. I mainly just use the excavator working at my own property so it hasn't clocked up that many hours yet, Just over 260 hrs and no problems with the machine. I had an issue with the fuel at one stage but only because my neighbour filled up my diesel container and somehow got AdBlue mixed in with it. Because my place is very rocky I do flip a track off now and then, but can normally get it back on within a few minutes. If I was going out full time contracting would probably buy a Kubota or Hitachi but for what I'm doing here this Rhino is excellent and I'm very impressed with what it can do. Cheers.
Thanks
Hi does your machine stuffer from hydraulic flutter when slewing it....?
Hello no I don't have any problems like that. Do you have a machine of your own with that issue. I'm actually just up the road from you in Horowhenua if you ever wanted to check it out. Give me a ride in your helicopter and I'll give you a ride on my digger, sounds like a plan eh. cheers.😀
That XN20 seems to go really well and looks quite smooth to operate. Obviously helped by being in the hands of someone who operates it well. I've had a bit of a look at your other videos and come to the conclusion that this size seems to be the perfect compromise for people who do work on their own rural properties, you certainly make it look effective at doing jobs that might usually be the domain of a bigger unit. In many ways I wish I'd got an XN20/XU20 instead of my UME12S (though it wasn't in my budget at the time and would have meant buying a bigger trailer). Oh, and PS, thank you so much for not doing that sped up motion thing that so many excavator video posters do, seeing it work in real time is the only way we viewers get a gauge on how well a digger handles its work.
Thank you Dave, your comments are very encouraging. I think you are right, this size machine is good for what I do. Sometimes it would be nice to have a bigger unit but that would require more outlay, plus a heavier duty trailer and a bigger vehicle to tow it. As I'm mainly doing my own work at my place I couldn't justify the extra expense, I was pushing the budget as it was to get what I've got. When I was looking at getting my own machine I checked out RUclips to see what the options were but it was really hard to find 1 or 2 tonne machines doing real work in real time. That's the main reason I've been posting these videos and why you'll never see my videos sped up. I realize I'm never going to get a huge audience but hopefully these videos are helpful to folks wanting to see what these machine can do. Cheers.
Yes I agree about the real time speed of the video. So annoying to watch a sped up video of operation in conjunction with some really annoying music attached. This is a great video and my thoughts are exactly as yours. I am very seriously thinking of picking up the 12p UHI here in Canada but watching these video's from dinomite diggers has got me thinking of moving up to the 20 model. It appears to be a better balance of size, smoothness and versatility.
@@chaleurphantom1 Totally right about the twenty being a better fit, plus, if you don't already have a decent amount of hours on diggers then you'll find learning on the 20 model to be a lot easier than the 12P.
I did a job similar and it was so long and tedious with my mini ex. Nearly 40t of gravel dropped off and god knows 5 trucks away of material. The little mini ex did it all. Some tools are the right tool and some we just make do 😄 nice job buddy 👍
You haven't got time to be watching digger movies boyo, get on with your firewood.😛
@Dinomite_Diggers 😄 thanks bud. Surprisingly I've done it all for now. Nice to see what others have been on with too 😄
You did a great job there. It might have been easier with a skid loader but at the end of the day you use what you have, and the result is fine. I reckon the home owner would be very happy for your help.
Thanks Dave. In an ideal world we'd have the right machine for each job but as you say make use of what you have. Go well over there.
"Better than a shovel and a wheel barrow" exactly!! Great job!! What are those swimming pool/covered tanks in the back yard?
Definitely better than the shovel and wheel barrow. My next video will show why I'm finished with the shovel and wheel barrow. The tanks are rain water storage tanks. At our place we find one 26 000 litre tank to be sufficient but nowadays the local council in their infinite wisdom say you have to have three tanks. I think mainly to help with fire fighting. Hope things are going good for you in Canada.
@@dinomite_diggers3453 interesting. Were we live we now have a well at 146 feet deep. Very clean spring fed well But in our old house we had a tank under the garage 26,000 litres but we had water delivered as it was illegal to collect rain water due to ecoli growing in the tank. 4,000 u.s. gallons of water was 140 bucks delivered it came from the nearby city of Hamilton. The old house could not dig a well due to heavy sulpher in area. Real stinky.
I have the grabs for my UME12S but I haven't ever used them cos the ripper and thumb work brilliantly together.
Yes I totally agree, the ripper and thumb work great with stumps but at my place I also deal with a lot of rocks and it works even better with those. cheers.
nice family!
Yep nice family, but it costs a lot to feed them though. cheers.😊
Easy peasy!! I need a ripper; I've done a few stumps with the regular bucket and a ripper would be better. That game is similar to Bacci Ball.
Yes I'm getting more and more use out of the ripper. It's really good for pulling out rocks, especially with the thumb to pick them up. Could be quite helpful for you as you have one or two rocks at your place. Cheers buddy.
Great to see you back out on the digger. I have one of those single rippers but not used as yet. Good family times you had. Need a few more years til my Grandkids can help out, but looking forward to it! Cheers Dave.K.
Cheers Dave. I had the digger about a year before I even used the ripper but now I'm using it more and more, particularly with the thumb. I've being doing quite a bit with the digger but we had some technical issues with the editing plus my video editor keeps telling ,me she's got too much school work to do.

Hello thanks for your comment and your interest. I did a digging job for my neighbour and so he filled up my diesel container for me. Unfortunately he got a little confused and filled it with a mixture of diesel and ad blue. I was worried it might wreck the engine on my machine but it all turned out ok in the end. Cheers.
@@nairolf169 Sorry for the slow reply, I live in New Zealand. I went on Google and checked out Haute - Savoie and you are right it looks an amazing place. Take care over there and thank you for watching the videos.
Here in Canada and the US, we call it DEF fluid or Urea. I don't trust my neighbors with anything that belongs to me. Harsh thoughts but experiences have been harsh as well.
Cest dommage que la fixation des godets n'est pas été plus simplifiée et que le godet inclinable se fait au pied et non pas avec un double bouton sur le joystic droit
If I was going contracting I would have bought a more upmarket machine and expected those features you mention. As I'm just working the excavator at my place in my time those features are not an issue to me.
That Adblue looks like nasty stuff. I thought it might have been mixed with the diesel but I gather it was all adblue? Urea based I thought it was pH neutral but looks to be corrosive when it got into the relays. All the best from Dave.
Hi Dave. The Adblue is basically water and urea and when it gets out in the air it crystalizes and becomes very corrosive. For reasons a bit complex to explain my container ended up with about 5 ltrs of adblue and 15 ltrs diesel. By time I smelt in the container the diesel had floated to the top. But as Forrest Gump once said, "it happens!" Take care over there, cheers.
Hi thanks for sharing what your digger can do. I live in Australia and also watch Nick's channel. I was going to get a smaller machine like Nick's which are 13 000 thousand over here.but thought the 1.2 ton would be better has the Kubota eng for 18 I went to look at the machines and 1.5 ton caught my attention it was a lot bigger machine with more reach and more digging depth but no boom swing. Just wondering how important having the boom swing is. I live on small acreage so can't really see a problem and stronger machine for 19 seems more appealing. These are uhi brand and are local to me .
Hello Peter. My digger has retractable tracks and the swing boom, I've done well over 200 hrs on it now and have never used these functions at all. I know those things are helpful in confined spaces but like you I live on small acreage so have room to move. I initially got a Rhino XN12 but it really wasn't suitable for me here and I was able to upgrade to a slightly used XN20, which was the best thing I've ever done. The XN20 is bigger and more stable but also much better to operate and a much better built machine. It's hard to believe both these machines are the same brand. Have you watched the Tree Change Farmer channel? One video Dave did a tour of the UHI showroom, a totally excellent and informative video. The UHI diggers look really good and they have a great warranty. My advice is don't go too small by trying to save a few bucks, if you can afford to do it, get the 1.5 or even the 2.0 UHI looks a very nice machine. And don't worry about the swing boom, they are over rated. Cheers.
@@dinomite_diggers3453 Thanks for your thoughts that was exact noly what I was thinking . I h ave seen the uhi video as well I was surprised by the size difference between the 1,2 and 1,5 ,The 1,5 seems around 30 to 40 percent larger then the 1,2 I didn't look at the 2 ton but I think they are 32000 which is out of my price range.hopefully the 1,5 without the adjustable track and boom swing will do what I need for 19000 Thanks for posting what you can do with your digger you have a very beautiful property.
A bit late replying but... I have a JD 17G that has the boom swing feature. There's other uses but I found it most useful for making or maintaining gutters alongside my driveways. I can keep my tracks on the driveway but pull straight along the trench path by swinging the cab clear to the right while having the boom nearly a full swing to the left, or vice versa. I use a 30" smooth tilt bucket at full tilt.
@@joeltemplin3570 Thanks for that Joel. When you have a digger sitting in the shed it's amazing how many different tasks you come up with for it to do. I could actually do without the swing boom but I couldn't do without the thumb and I'm using the ripper more and more now too. Are you enjoying your JD 17G? What other jobs are you doing with it?
@@dinomite_diggers3453 Definitely enjoying the 17, although I can't seem to get rid of a stupid butt pucker factor on even relatively slightly uneven ground... lol. My wife runs it a bit too and hoots and hollers like she's on an amusement park ride when the mini tips around. It's all fun to her. She cleans up around the horse barn. I can't straddle most of my driveway gutters so the boom swing is invaluable, and I can't imagine not having the thumb either. Among other things like general cleanup, I use the mini to hold tree lengths up off the ground to cut up firewood rounds. I've gotten hundreds of feet of water/electrical trenching done and a digout next to our holding tanks. I'm going to expand a small pond when things dry out around it this spring and dig out a backyard watergarden pond too. Fun stuff, usually.
WOW that could have been far more serious than what you got away with for sure. That ad blue is no good man, just another way to make money out of pig pee 😆 I'm glad you got back operating and sure is good to see your machine working for you. Keep it looked after and it will last you a good time hopefully.
You're dead right Nick I got off pretty lightly with that one. I'm still confident I will get good service from my little digger which I don't ever think of as Chinese Junk. @@dinomite_diggers3453 your rightz I think you've got a good machine there bud. Looking at your machine, it does look like a premium product. I will be doing another video on the repair.
