Tears and Pavan
Rare Old Grey Whistle Test Strawbs footage.
Hi everyone, thanks for your comments, glad you're enjoying this unique Strawbs footage.
Go to www.myspace.com/keepthe70saliveeverytuesdayatthebar, under my 'videos' section for an even clearer picture. Enjoy!! Cheers. Tina. xx Many thanks to Rob for making this video uploadable!
P.S. Apparently this great Strawbs appearance so nearly didn't happen, as Dave Lambert told me, the band had a car accident the night before, driving back from a gig in Norwich.

Just Fantastic Tears and Pavan, just the real masters of progressive Rock just starting and never ending!!!!
I'm rather picky on whether it's Live or Memorex on these TV programs. The music sounds album accurate but the vocals aren't so they probably prepared a vocal-less studio tape for this performance and singing to that backing track but its very good way better than lip syncing.
음악이 흐르는 밤에를 통해서 알려지고 백판으로 발매되어 청계천 음반기게에서 사들고 집에 돌아오던 순간이 아직도 엊그제 같은데. 벌써 30년 .. 사랑 합니다.
Reminds me of early Genesis.
Jools Holland Live is no substitute for the Whistle Test. Why does Holland pick such crap guests? The Whistle Test was full of amazing bands like this,
Thank you, wonderful !
The whole album is full of gems like this. The Strawbs were a wonderful band.
are a wonderful band. Still touring. Deal, Kent this Friday
Back in 1973 I was 14 and bought Bursting At The Seams in a discount record shop in Rotterdam. It's one of my favourite albums ever since.
meraviglia
Most underated band in the history of music
great song of an great band
@margarita6022 Sorry for you sad loss....a great band to remember a loved one by....I was 11 or 12 when I discovered them and got sucked into their mystical magical wonder which changed me forever. I find no other music even remotely equal to theirs, and you can see by my name how much I identify with them. They are one of a kind, and David Cousin's voice will go down in history!
Yes meets the Moodys...
@chrisguygeezer on my "bucket list" ;-)
@BillyJoeVegas What a great shame. I suggest you un-stow them, get yourself a proper deck and enjoy what you've been missing. If they are transfered to mp3 format, they will carry 11 times less musical information than cd, and cd carries 5 times less information than vinyl. What are you waiting for?
OMG I never thought I would hear this agian . Thank you so much . I remember getting my new Garrard SP 25 Mk 4 , Teac Amp and Kev speakers and filling the room with this in 1973. What memories
@BillyJoeVegas Do yourself a favour and get a good turntable. You'd be amazed and surprised...
this is wonderful! thanks for taking the time to post this properly. Appreciate your "keepingtheseventiesalive" sentiment, There is much more great music there than the post-punk philosophers would allow. wordofgord
Thanks for the post.... I have all the Strawbs vinyls... safely stowed away... I haven't had a turntabe for a long while. A sound engineer friend of mine is gonna set me up to transfer my vinyls (lots O' great music from the past never made it to CDs.)
@Terra148 Oh how I wish I could have been there!!
Yep, that's Blue - with some lovely Mellotron strings! Met him at a Strawbs concert in Whitehaven (of all places!) in (I think) 1998 - he's got a great CV! Amen Corner, the Strawbs (of course) and the Bee Gees! So that catchy synth run on Jive Talkin' and the dreamy electric piano on How Deep Is Your Love? is our Blue! What a versatile guy! And what an edition of OGWT that was! Judee Sill, Poco and the Moodies! Those were the days!
The mellotron playing on this album and its predecessor Grave New World is some of the best ever committed to vinyl.
Aye. One of my favourite pieces from this band. Perhaps that best concert I ever attended was the Strawbs and the Man band at Massey Hall in the 70's. Incredible, and an incredible impact on folks that I knew had attended.
Oh wait. Let me guess. You're remarking that - as it's recorded - it is inherently not "live". Please tell me I'm mistaken. I thought pedantic trolling among those over the age of 12 was finally eradicated.
I think he mis-spelt 'seven'.......
Doesn't sound like the album version and they do *seem* to be performing it "live" in studio and not as individual parts mixed together afterward. I could, of course, be mistaken; perhaps it's a live studio performance which has been overdubbed. Care to elaborate? I'm curious.
csven OGWT recording: The singing is slightly different from the recorded track, but the instruments are exactly as recorded. My guess is therefore that the singing only was live.
Many thanks for posting.
Never thought I'd see a live version of this song; one of my favorites from the band.
One of THE classic lps "Bursting at the Seams" See, the 70's weren't all that bad!
This band has always given me a feeling of all the beauty in the world..........
Magnificent song. One of my favorites on this album. thank you
