    Is it possible to turn off the LODs for particular models ? For example the main character and very important NPCs stay always LOD0 (no matter how far they are) ... and all other things like not important NPCs, enviroment and building do change the LOD.

    • @UnrealGems
      @UnrealGems Месяц назад

      Yes, it is quite simple, where you do not want LODs you can just delete them and the engine will use the only remaining one, LOD 0. Just double click on the Skeletal or Static Sesh and delete them in the mesh editor.

    I have huge trouble to get decent looking strafe animations, most on mixamo and co are just goofy, i need some anims which fit to a unarmed soldier. Are those anims you used here openly available? Im already looking for this since 3 days at least 6 hours a day, trying out and still can't find a solution. Im currently using Lyra but epic did something weird with the 90 Degree turns, they are not mirrored but rather its two times the same anim lol.

    Hey man great video! I didnt understand the part where you aligned the cones to the bones rotation so that gravity doesnt move it on simulation start. Mine are aligned but gravity pulls them staight down. Do you have an idea what the problem might be?

    • @UnrealGems
      @UnrealGems Месяц назад

      You should check that you have rotated the limits while holding the right key combination, so that the rigid body rests on the limits of the cones. You can think of the cone walls as surfaces where the constraint can rest.

    Hi. your tutorials have been a great help. if you dont mind i wanted to ask about RBANS. i have a character with a long puncho and i want it to have some animations, the puncho has a layed down ( mesh is in a rest state) and like a glide state. when the puncho is in the rest state do i have to make two different skeletal chains as skinning it in rest state is difficult. and i just want to get a cloth effect. and whats the difference between rigid body and anim dynamics. thanks in advance

    • @UnrealGems
      @UnrealGems Месяц назад

      Hey! Thanks for the comment! The difference between rigid body and anim dynamics is that the rigid body simulation accounts for intersections with other rigid bodies and other elements that have collision in the level. Anim Dynamics has simplified physics and does not interact with other things outside of the Anim Dynamics node. It's simulation is faster but not as high quality as rigid bodies. For the rest state you do not have to skin twice, you can make it rest on the constraint limit. Like the short hair simulation tutorial. 😁

The bodies in front are normally pushed away but sometimes get split my the leg and knee bodies. Is it a case of iteration count which I can't seem to find in the project settings.Or how can I resolve this. And also are CRoss constraints referring to the constraints between chains. As projection may also be causing some issues. Thanks

  • @BenjaminvonCramon

    Great video. Question - I have scan-based asset, a concrete form made of a Zinc-plated metal, as seen under a bridge that they used to pour the deck during construction. The scan used cross-polarization to isolate base color from specular reflection. I also used co-polarization to retrieve specular, and have projected back to the model the albedo color and isolated specular, still figuring out how to deal with albedo roughness. For metalic I've manually painted in a 3d mask for Metalic channel in UE5, also have a roughness map that behaves as expected, but I'm seeing how lower roughness values used convey the hardness of specular reflection returns darker base color than is right. I understand about lighting direction, but back to theory, would luma of base color of this metal, when photographed cross-polarized, return darker values than are appropriate in UE5? I'm tempted to lift the gamma just on the metal concrete form in the base color using a masked adjustment layer in Mari. Make sense?

    • @UnrealGems
      @UnrealGems Месяц назад

      I think that the problem is that base color in metals in the PBR pipeline does not represent a color but a reflectance. Its value is RGB and can be tinted. Since we are working within a physically-based model, we need to use real-world measured values for the metal reflectance in our maps and then use the tint that we want to get the color right. Reflectance for raw metal is going to be high, in the range of 70-100% specular, which we can map to 180-255 sRGB. I hope this helps! 😁

    • @BenjaminvonCramon
      @BenjaminvonCramon Месяц назад

      @@UnrealGemsYes, so mapping 70-100% specular with non-linear sRGB, I get that the hue and saturation components in Base Color only tint a metal reflection. My question concerns the luma in Base Color, the V in HSV, whether you could explain the theory behind the luma I'm getting (empirically) in the isolated specular from co/cross polarized photography, how it is that in UE5 that it shows up way dark? Again, I'm clear about how lighting influences that, but after more than doubling the gamma in Base Color maps for just the metal section of this model, it did make a big difference in the right direction, so I'm left curious what explains it. I hope tha makes sense.

    Maybe you can help me with something. No one ever seems to demonstrate this problem, so maybe its just me, but no matter what I do while using a 2D Blendspace and entering fast input (forwards to back and/or left to right) the character turns slightly while changing direction. How is this fixed? Note: This rotation doesn't occur if the character comes to a complete stop before changing directions.

    • @UnrealGems
      @UnrealGems 2 месяца назад

      It depends on how you organize the Blend Space and how it transitions from animation to animation. Sometimes zero interpolation time helps with these problems. Also interesting to look at the new option to see the active animation blend percentage. You also need to look at Preferred Triangulation Direction and wrap input.

      I actually found the fix, although something still doesn't make sense. The issue was there was a null at the root of the characters skeleton that was scaled to 2.4. However in Maya and UE5 it said the scale of the null was 1. In Maya deleting the null created a transform node which was set to 2.4 so I set that scale back to 1, re-imported it and it started working. Although what doesn't make any sense is I created a basic skeletal mesh from scratch of a ball and 2 cylinders in blender. Yet for some reason even though I made sure everything about this basic rig was correct. It had the exact same problem as the rig I just fixed. Even in a different project and even in a different version of Unreal Engine.

    This great, thank you so so much,..I like to make realistic characters, but under the current worlds postion, I have not found a tutorial for doing realistic natural breasts. I am NOT looking for weird off the wall stupidity, BUT when a female character wearing cloth walks, runs, or jumps there is a natural breast movment and without that the realisim is a little lost and can be jarring, it's a shame some are not mature and adult about character creation. I have been trying to use the new 5.3 skeletal mesh editing to add the bones BUT have not gotten it to work yet, when I try to do the skin weights it ruins the orginial painting

      No problem! Thanks for the comment! I'm still with my final PhD crunch, really short on time. But I wanted to do a tutorial exactly like what you are describing and start the cloth series. 😁

      For Disney like shading you can use these techniques, although you need to have the right model and textures. Would love to do a tutorial at some point. Thanks for the comment!😅

    I'm having the same problem as @guillermomontoya3382 with the subtitles translating fine, and the localization files for dialogue wave and sound wave are generated correctly, but the sound does not change and is only using the original dialogue wave. My Play Dialogue 2D node is connected to a dialogue wave variable with the default value set to the original dialogue wave file that the localization files are generated from, is this not correct?

    I'm stuck. For some reason in 15:55 the scripts for english and spanish are exporting as if there is no information nor translations in it. In consequence, I cannot import the translated wav files. Why do you think it might be happening?

    • @guillermomontoya3382
      @guillermomontoya3382 5 месяцев назад

      I just figured it out, apparently it only works if you have the Spoken Text box filled in the Dialogue Wave. Which leads me to other questions: 1. What if I don't want to use those subtitles and use others that I made, or is it possible to customize them? ... 2. For some reason, My spanish wav files won't be imported with Import Dialogue, even after changing the name to the number of the Hash and setting it to "true". All text is translated great but the audio just stays with the english version. Why could that be?

    I am trying to create a vinyl record very similar to the example you are showing here. I can get the anisotropy to work in the material editor but it does not work at all when the material is applied to the model. It works fine on Unreal Engine primitives (cube, cylinder,etc) but not on FBX models imported into the project. How can I make the anisotropy to work on all models?
